Post by: Zee-Supreme on September 29, 2007, 04:08:42 AM

That's weird...I just finished sorting out my home setup too.

I'll post a pic in the next day or so, but my equip is:

Samson C01 Condensor mic
Alesis io2 Interface
E-MU Xboard 25 MIDI keyboard
Pioneer monitors
Toshiba Aurex amp
iBook G4 with Reason 3/Cubase LE
Legacy mic stand
Philips headphones

Your setup looks good - what mic is that? Have you bought this stuff yet or is this a shopping list?

Sup Peewee

Shit was acquired after saving for a while! I can give the prices in pounds

Mic: 90
Interface 100
E-MU Xboard 25 MIDI keyboard: 90
Pioneer monitors: Already had
Toshiba Aurex amp: Already had
iBook G4 with Reason 3/Cubase LE: Got in SA a while back
Legacy mic stand: 20
Philips headphones: 70

So excluding the shit I had already, about 370 pounds, so give or take R4500

My take on this:

Good initiative Zee. You need to get your basics in order. You need an easy to use program with tons of modules to put vocals and instrumentals together, I recommend Neundo or Cubase. If you ballin try Logic or Protools. Get yourself a good sound card that will be able to handle your sound capacity and allow the quality to come out. You need good monitor speakers so you can actually hear the quality of your sound. Your mic does not need to be super sensative it just needs to have a condensor.

Sean Page's advice:

A Creative external sound card. (comes with a digital mixer)
Condenser mic.
Sound proofing.
Amp and monitors (speakers)
Compressor
Korg keyboard and triton keyboard.
Fast PC.
Drum machine
Turntables. That’s it

i must say i've never personally used that mic, but i can definitely recommend the Rode NT1-A or the NT2. It's a little more expensive (at least over here in SA), but they are the best sounding mics in that price range.

wordup y'all. its ya boi BoyGenius. U know how i do, if u dont, best u find out, & best believe.
Yeah wats kickin... thot id shed lite on my setup & how i cook em beats.

At the core of my studio is an Intel P4 Motherboard with an intel processor running at 2.8GHz, overclocked gets to 3000MHz. Memory specs a bit low, too embarrased to say(512MB). Runnin XP Pro SP2.

To get the sound we use Rode NT-1 (i agree wit D-Planet, best mic at that range), onborad preAmp on the Behringer mixer, then runnin into an M-Audio Audiophile 2496, which kicks it straight into ProTools MP7.

But hey, wat is vocals without the beat. Reason 3 and Cubase SX 2 (with Hypersonic) got us on lock there. The occasional Fruityloops6 helps wont hurt. Plugs is the Waves Platinum(no i didnt buy it), and for loudness we kick it with Ozone.

Mixing is either on the cans, where we burn our ears with em Fostex T50RPs. Monitors we do on KRK RP5(too much ba** though, aint feelin em).

All thats left now is marketing and distribution, u will know when thats done when the CD's are in stores and the music on radio and vidz on TV.

Much Luv. Lets elevate this game. We need quality from the indepedents.

Man, Im feeling good right now. The set up has been a journey and a half both emotionallly and financially. I got the KRK's the Behringer mixer an M audio sound card...mad programs and i can already tell the difference from my prior recordings. We are looking good over here. I will upload pictures soon...Once again, we need to share ideas and new ways of creating in this producers forum. I feel itsvery constructive and helps better the image of our culture of a giving one...much success to all the studio heads...let's get it...we are only one hit away

But I ain't writin shit down 'til they deliver some chips
If B.I.G. was here, he'd say I was "Dead Wrong"
Cuz I don't get on the radio and say verses that I said in the song
It's Mad Skillz muhf***er the V.A. don
E.C. emcee, AKA Shaquan

[Camu Tao]
All my niggas buggin out, wasted on drugs
Talk shit nigga, thug it out, ya waitin on guns
Cuz I'm a dirty nigga that likes the guts cut up
And put my hands in the heat until my fingers burn up
And pick my teeth with the remains when the bodies turn up
I'll stay rotten, stay plottin on ya bitch and her c***
AIDS victim, stickin my bloody dick in the cup
Cuz I'm hotter than the bobbins and skillets in ya momma kitchen
I'm even hotter than the f***in seat the Devil sits in
Cold shoulder niggas get blazed forever
And your heat'll never happen like rubbin to wet sticks together
You fags wanna fight and shoot its whatever...
