I've been having quite a lot of discussions about hardware vs. software recently. I don't like too much hardware because it takes up space and it's not very portable. These days the software is so good I really don't think mosr people can hear the difference between hardware and software (although I have friends that would disagree).

Although I love my monitors, I spend quite a lot of time mixing on my headphones. When I get some more cash I'm going to get some Sennheiser HD650s. Mixing on good headphones is a nice solution for anyone who can't afford a lot of cash for monitors.

There's quite a nice article on mixing with headphones here:

Yep...very sweet set-up.. wished to have included other stuff, but that could have been a long list...

but I'll mention a few more:

1. Tons of softwares and plug-ins...[the list there is endless...I sometimes dont know which to use :)]
2. Mic Stand and Pop shield
3. 2 x Standton turntables and mixer + 2 x Technics SL1200 + Standton cDj
4. I collect headphones - 2 x Sennheiser HD202 + 1 x Sennheiser PX100
[just like D-pleezee, I enjoy mastering with them...although I love my monitors]

All I can say about a gadget freaks pc is that it had 4 HD's and hell of a lot memory!

Nice set up guys...

hahaha,,, naa,,, just my local mac dealer :)

Other than the Sennheiser headphones, my next purchases could be a better mic pre-amp. One day I would like to invest in a Neumann U87 mic too (but at around R30,000 that's not happening any time soon).

Nah...Lee and her friend called Nyambz to enquire about some really minor shit and dude was obviously under the blankets judging by the slowness and unclarity of his answers. I couldn't blame him though...people should be civil...if ya'll calling me 23h30 on a weekday to enquire about minor shit that don't need sensationalising i won't answer that shit.....

Since nobody else here seems to want to be clear about the proceedings of last night.
That way we can get the true story without lime and guava mixed into it.

I really don't know the full background of the story hence i'm avoiding giving an explanation..will leave that to the actual artists and their accomplice....but it seems like a mix up of some sort on the final printing of the CD....but it's no big deal...as i said before no significant revenues are going to be generated from that one beat for GEOLOGY and MOS DEF to run to S.A. to claim their cut....i don't get the fascination...is Lee's show that hungry for drama.....niggaret please ;D

As far as i know (fell asleep in the beginning of the show, so i stand corrected)
There was a track on the Ba4za album which has the exact same beat as a mos def track, but it was claimed that either Nyambz or AQ produced it on the cover sleeve... So no one could give a proper explanation as to who made the beat and how the song came about

That must make Lee a stupid bitch for actually caring.
Matter-Fact, Nyambz should k-a-f-f-i-r-klap the pigment out the left side of her face for having the nuts to call him so late at night demanding answers to such a stupid question.
So...long story short, f*** Lee and the bridge for making a huge hoo-haa over something that turned out to literally be nothing.
People rap over or jacked beats all the time. The only person loosing face or credibility here is Lee for being the ape she is and trying to instigate shit.
Maybe i should call her up at 3.26am tommorow morning and ask her what she had for breakfast on the 21st of August 8yrs ago, and what colour her shit turns after she eats beatroot.
Stupid bitch.
Im pissed off cos i was expecting to hear something of significance which actually turned out to be monkey talk.

Too much hardware....too many pieces doing minimal functions...especially with the first set up.....would rather go with that ROLAND (i think its the MV 8000) piece that boxes up a lot of funtions into one piece...more mobility and ease of function...i should be able to get around my entire set up without rolling around the entire room just like the last set up....equipment on top of each other is just outright uncalled for  ;D, Lol at the second last set up.

The first setup is cool...only if one can get the MV8000 in SA without paying over 2K at customs...YES...I asked for taxes...and they outright told me the rates regarding to the items purchased overseas with that value...I was disappointed and just got to France just to have that MV glance  :'( - any idea where in SA I can find the MV8800?

As for too much hardware...man...Im a gadget freak...i wouldn't mind...I think my spot is almost heading that way tho...but like I said...I wanna get rid of most/all.

last one in trompies pics is like mine too. too much hardware is unessary really. everything is done in the software domain these days. its either just as good or slightly below hardware quality but i doubt people can tell the difference when its done right anyway

Do you use Acoustic Treatment or eggs trys tho????? I have Acoustic Treatment that I use seldom tho!

Nyambo's almost looks like this....of course without the view and some hardware...  ;D

I was at Incredible Connection in Cresta Mall and they have this Apple Mac piece with a good sized LCD monitor (i didn't get the chance to a**ess the piece) but they had garageband open and the sound quality out of that machine is just tooo much. I wouldn't ming having one of those, shitloads of apps, a decent mixing machine like the ROLAND pieces, add in an mpc2000xl and one decent midi-keyboard. That would more than enough.

BUt i still wanna know if MrC was taking Nyambz side or what... Coz he said sumting like its normal for u to sample another guys track but not jack the beat as is and not give credit.

I didn't take anybody's side. I said that people should not look down on looping and think of it as a form of jacking. I stated that some of the best known joints out there are just straight up loops,e.g. Nuthin But a G Thang, CREAM,etc, etc.Producers from Primo to Pete Rock to Madlib been looping shit for the longest of time, so in my opinion there aint no crime in finding a dope loop and repeating it for 3 minutes. It's been done countless times,at the end of the day, it's about making your own interpretation of the original, in terms of it being a whole different song. That's why im always suprised when people look down on Kanye and he's sampling methods. It's nothing different from what some of your faviourites have been doing for the longest of times.Second,i spoke about very often as a producer you will come across a sample that's already been used.Sometimes u discover this after, sometimes u intentionally use a sample you know has been used cos u wanna give it your own twist. No crime here as well.Been done countless times. Once again it's about the end product @ the end of the day i.e. THE SONG. Then i stated in the case of the track in question, that definitely was a straight up JACK. The beats sound 99% identical, the way the sample is chopped, the drums everything, except one of the two has some ba** to it.

I can't believe all you wack mothaf***a's...how can u not see that this is a huge issue...i think we all know that sampling is an element of hip hop production but i mean when someone jacks a beat straight up without changing a single sound and then still credits himself on the cd cover...what the f*** is up with that.. i mos definitely don't buy the story that it was a misprint especially due to the fact that the album was 3 years in the making...its most disappointing when  its those that we all look up to with much respect that let us down with such a low blow...big ups to Lee and Da Bridge for tryna get to the bottom of that ish 'coz all of us were hungry for answers....and apparently still are..it's not about keeping it real, it's about keeping it right!

Couldn't agree with you more my brother. First off it's some straight up bullshit that people shouldn't talk about this. That is exactly the downfall of hip-hop. People do not question things anymore. Back in the day, u would never get away with jacking anybody lyrics and or song without questions being asked. Nowadays we let everything slide that is why there is so much wackness around. The Golden Rules have been broken.

Im not taking sides here as i don't really know what exactly transpired. A platform was given to everybody involved in the situation to explain their side, and i thought from there it would become very clear what exactly went down, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. At the end of it all i was actually more confused that in the beginning. As a consumer, who was interested in copping that Ba4Za album @ the end of the month, solely from hearing that joint being played all the time on Da Bridge i think we deserve more.

And oh yeah,Da Bridge is the best hip-hop show on air right now, f*** what u heard. And f*** everybody else who thinks otherwise. Lee,Khenzero and Ace of Spades have done more and will continue to do more for local hip-hop than most of these pricks talking out the a**.

I mix and master my own stuff.

I'd really like to be able to take my final mixes to a professional hardware mastering place - it just gets a bit expensive for a whole album though.

Co_Sign with Dplanet.

I do it my damn self too. I would be more comfortable sending them to professionals but it does get expensive like Dplanet pointed out. Plus the engineers in SA dont really do great jobs for hip hop. I dont really trust that many engineers locally to do it right. To the point where i'd rather send it to a producer to do it. I would definitley send stuff to Dplanet or Hipe for mixing. I trust their ears.

Quick question:

I simply don't have the funds for professional mastering - and frankly, it's something I should be able to do myself, if not professionally, then at least competently.

So I do it myself. I'm the first to say I'm a shit sound engineer with a lot to learn, but I am learning - even if I don't always get the results I want.

But some people just aint doing it rite....
I was listening to the track High school girls on the hype disc (which is also played on some radio stations) and it sounds terrible, the sample used sounds louder then the vocals and the whole song sounds like it was done in one take.

I don't think cats spend enough time editing and EQing their vocals too.

Bumb tippy toes nicca???? I wont in my lifetime do such...

Anyway...I used to be terrible hecticly, but yes...the learning process is great and one is improving every project...in fact... I sometimes buy spindle of 50cd's just to burn and listen to it over and over again! Its a kak process but work...in addition..I take out the most quality cd - [no mp3s] and compare sounds with that... use stuff mastered by maybe Troy Hightower or that nigga who masteres Jay-Z stuff...

Thats my take...

I found that mastering on hardware makes it alot easier to get the desired sound then on software, since you can add alot more to a track with hardware compressors without having to worry bout distortion

First post is

And u guys cum here, and act like its nothing."

Second post is a bit too higher grade. something about not being able to translate xhosa

But please lets not dwell on this. If anyone wants to clarify anything feel free to contact me on 082 083 5677 or send me an email nyambz@gmail.com Its a bit petty to be brave enough to make coments and yet hide behind a language.

That track was sumthing else...

let me shed the light....

Beat from: Sam Simose [all those that know how this guy works will say he will give you whatever that comes out (of the SP I think) and burn it on cd - I never met him but thats the word....

Vocals recorded at my spot: SIAMESE Entertainment

Track featured on Hype was not mastered but given to artist for their listening pleasures...but funny i get to find it there....

Get the proper one on Ondagrnd's album coming out soon!

Yeah Simose uses an SP 303. So his beats sometimes came out a little gritty. he got a mixer now, so he's beats have a higher sound quality than before.

That Simose dude is a monster yo.Everything i've heard from him sounds too dope.Got that cla**ic feel locked down for sure. The swing in his drums, sound choices, everything is on point.Definite favourite @ the moment.
