IF A HIPHOP MAGAZINE IS TO EMERGE TOMORROW...
WOULD U PREFER THAT THE MAGAZINE IS RUN ALONG STRICT JOURNALISM STANDARDS WITH ALL THE RIGHT WORDS AND PHRASES..??
OR WOULD YOU PREFER THAT THE MAG SPEAKS TO YOU IN A LANGUAGE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND.. BE IT TSOTSITAAL... KAAP AFRIKAANS.. OR STREET ENGLISH??
-
I think the formality and slang can work well together. Formal bits like the editorial can use proper phrases and diction and articles on certain hiphop issues can use slang.
-
I think what would be good is if you put no limits leave the descresion to the writters...coz when they write the article they write they know who they are addressing and know how they will receive the article..i mean in if i am writting a graff article the main audience is people either in graff or a**piring or respect graff..so those who do not know graff "lingo" learn not only the graff but the graff culture locally..i mean i don´t wanna read a hip hop philosophy article and come across fallacies and stuff die to slang..i think the article writters will use the appropriate ..
-
PS If you looking for writter look no further....

While we on tha subject of hiphop mags and hip hop journalist, i wanna know from u´ll. Wha´s tha best way to write this word negroe
nigga,
ni99a,
ni**a,
nigger,
knee-grow,
niggin, or
nig
I know tha when I afford to read US mags they all had their own favourite way. what ´bout our mag, what will it use?
wha!?
-
jammer, back to tha origino topic,
The language will not really matter. The most improtant wll be tha pictures and centerfolds. n make sure on glossy paper!
Who care bout the editorial. Yeah it t should be there but no-one reads that ish.
wha!?
-
brick..
i feel you.. in fact you might end up as the editor of this mag..
the ebony cat loves your take on certain issues pertaining to hiphop...
swart kid..
you will probably end up being on the centrefold... whether the glossy paper will do your mug justice is still to be seen..
jokes aside.. u got a brilliant mind yourself.. and will definitely invited to join the editorial staff...
how about SWT EDITOR???
on a serious note cats..
the time has never been more right to hit the streets with an authentic south african "street" magazine... complete with ciphers... URLs.. demo cds with beats.. underground reviews... all that plus VAT..
milkman.. my guess is you´ll be our webmaster..
and rushay our Eastern Cape correspondent...
WELL WHADYA THINK NORMAN???

whilst i´m down with speed to market and all that...
i am convinced that if your vision is driven by a pa**ion..
you are unstoppable...
when David Mays entered the industry there was WORD UP, FOCUS, YO!, BLACK BEAT and host of underground mags focusing on hiphop... but Mays, apart from being a jew, was fired up about his newly created revenue stream - driven by his pa**ion for the culture... and not even BLAZE (with all the money behind it)could take The Source out..
so i´d say speed to market is relevant.. but very specific rather than general in many industries..
making money should be a consequence of doing what you´re really pa**ionate about.. not the primary objective...
so whoever´s out there can put out as many mags as they want... eventually they´ll go the way larry katz went with Ymag.. if the mag´s not what they REALLY wanna do...
take this website as well...
the net is littered with hiphop sites.. i personally have been communicating with hiphop cats all over the globe since 1994.. via IRC, chatrooms, BBSs and all that.. so when u started this site there were already a sh!tload of sites wit the same type of content online... but what makes this site what it is???
definitely not speed to market?
-
let´s just say i´m planning to be a MEDIA OWNER... that´s that!!!
i´m pa**ionate about informing.. educating.. sharing info.. getting the word out..
and i´m gonna do that by ALL means necessary...
to answer the question.. YES!!
-
What will make Sw-Kid wanna buy your mag instead of borrowing my friends Source mag or reading the Drum backpage?
wha!?
-
I think if something is bigger than you and is worth bin part of you will buy it.
-
How much will it cost? Tha sauce an XXLarge cost a fortune.
Someone said they use The Sauce glossy pages as toilet paper.
WHAT AN EXPENSIVE TASTE!
wha!?
-
if the ebony cat can have his way...
and the mag is the end product of THE COMING TOGETHER OF MANY BRILLIANT MINDS (not one white jewish cat and his rapper/gangsta homie)...
believe me... YOUR FRIEND WON´T WANNA LET U BORROW HIS!!!
-
given the local economy and all that...
anywhere between R10 and R20 should be affordable..
no doubt..
-
that white jewish bra and his gangsta homie don´t run there mouths like rolls royce engines, they are the drivers!!!.....and right now that engine is idling....
-
ps. i heard mobshop was the best.......ever
