Title: Zuma Case
Post by: A pimp named Sarkozy on September 11, 2008, 12:21:59 PM
I shudder when I think of what might happen in PMB tomorrow if Zuma`s application is unsuccesful. I really hope for the sake of stability and peace in this wonderful country of ours, lets hope the violence that erupted yesterday between the cops and those marching for Zuma was just a once off.

Qoute from The Times website:

"What was supposed to be a peaceful protest turned ugly yesterday when Zuma supporters forced motorists out of their cars, and intimidated bystanders and workers in surrounding buildings into joining their march.

The protest was part of the “ma** action” by the ANC and its alliance partners in support of Zuma’s bid to have the charges against him withdrawn.

But, instead of peaceful picketing outside the National Prosecuting Authority offices in Durban, pandemonium broke out when the protesters became unruly.

Zuma supporters gathered outside the NPA offices at about 8am.

At about 10am, marchers in Field Street, on their way to the City Hall, began throwing water bombs at the police.

“It might have been a legal march, but there was nothing legal about it. They did not follow the proposed route and came into the city from all angles. When they finally merged there were about 3,000 protesters,” said police spokesman Superintendent Vincent Mdunge.

“They all started coming from different parts of the city and they were intimidating people, looting and damaging property along the way,” Mdunge said.

He said the protesters displayed a total disregard for the law, forcing the police to open fire on them with rubber bullets in West Street.

“Along the way, the supporters began pulling innocent motorists out of their cars to join the march. They then invaded a nearby building. Police had to escort marchers out of the building. There was looting and damage to property.”

Two police officers were seriously injured when protesters stoned them outside the Durban University of Technology.

“The supporters began throwing bricks and stones at the campus buildings too. There has been damage to property,” Mdunge said.

The city came to a standstill as cars were left unattended in the CBD when their occupants were forced to join the march.

A taxi blockade, planned to protest against taxi violence, exacerbated the situation: the taxi owners joined the Zuma protest and refused to move their vehicles.

The police impounded more than 30 taxis.

“The police were forced to use rubber bullets to disperse the unruly crowd so the city could operate again. There have been arrests, but we are unable to say how many,” Mdunge said.

But ANC eThekwini regional secretary John Mchunu said the march was peaceful until the police provoked the protesters.

“It went on well until the police clashed with protesters. After the march, police got angry because some people did not want to go home and it was those racist white and Indian policemen who started shooting rubber bullets at the protesters,” he said.

He said the “racist police” were angry because the ANC was marching against the Scorpions.

“They are on their side,” he said, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the Scorpions and the police have not enjoyed a good relationship.

Mdunge dismissed Mchunu’s claims: “All police officers acted within the law. The issue of racism is nonexistent.”

The city had returned to normal last night, but fears have grown that Zuma’s court appearance in Pietermaritzburg on Friday will lead to a replay of the chaos in Durban."

We're dealing with very frustrated people, people who need an outlet, a cause or means to express this frustration. Resting on laurels of "a better life for all" where some circumstances in this country now are worse than the pre '94 era. Zuma and the YL know this and play on it, he prods at his own parties lack of service delivery.

Peeps are pissed and want answers. The YL know this too, thats why Julias Malema's statement of "kill for zuma" has repercussions that are going to rock this goverment and country to its knees. We think xenophobia was bad. I dont think it's gonna be pretty.

^this is true, but i think at this point it's gone beyond just being a socio-political issue. something is brewing in the national consciousness. something unsightly, of which Zuma is being consolidated as the symbol. think about it, people generally harbour a deep-seated mistrust for politicians. if it's not that then its indifference or conscious self-delusion (due to experience: they never deliver). he is rich; they are poor; and yet they would kill for him? they lament the incompetence of his party, and yet they tear shit apart in his name. what's really going on here? what is the link, the point of relation, between  Zuma and his supporters? what does he really mean to them; what does he really stand for?

I shudder when I think of what might happen in PMB tomorrow if Zuma`s application is unsuccesful.

I attended a public dialogue Zuma presented here on campus (UJ-apk) Tuesday afternoon whereby he spoke about "justice in S.A" and afterwards we as the students (not journalist) where given platform to ask questions.Ironically one foreign student asked the man,"Judging how South Africans behave violently when things do not go their way, does the ANC have a strategy on how to handle such a situation if Zuma is declined........"
Guess hw the man asnwered?
He gave a very very political answer by first pointing out that the question was not base on the speech so therefore can one ot the ANC comdrads answer the poor guy.
And now I'm laughing at Zuma because someone did ask him the possibility of violence.

*stupid ;D*

Judge Nicholson just ruled in favour OF zuma!

what an irony that ncquka who started all this ish would give JZ the avenue to remain a free man.. in light of the judges desparaging comments made about executive & political interference in zuma's woes.. it may be time to recall mbeki..

& that the zuma court decision would overshadow mbeki whilst he's basking in the afterglow of the zim agreement is poetic justic methinks..

I'm actually quite excited about this...maybe i'm not up 2 speed
wen it comes 2 politics and such (plus i hardly read that mail and guardian nonsense). Change is interesting, this is a milestone
in sa history and he myt actually turn out to be an adequate
leader.

I'm not really a "Zuma Supporter" or wateva, but it seems
like south africans been complaining about every president since
Mandela stepped down. Or maybe its just the ANC, cuz Madiba
didnt exactly meet up to his expectations either, but just cuz he
throws birthday parties with the Queen and wateva he was
suddenly more competent than all his successors... just my take
on it. If the ANC has failed the country as a whole, people will
let their votes be heard

that is funny...
but i wouldn't mess with the IFP nowadays, after all...they could just be planning to 'overthrow' the government
who knows how many other secret military camps they've set up...and what the hell are they training for? a civil war? maybe that's a bit extreme but i find it suspect that they deny any knowledge of this camp. these days one can't even avoid the politricks... seems like they're trying to confuse the shit out of us!

Seeing how our leaders are leading our country to Zim situation,I think the next thing to do is to create a youth party that will not favour any party,it must just be neutral.
This youth party will tell these leaders on how we want our country to be for the sake of  our future as we are the country's future economically, politically or whatever.
In that way we would know that what ever they do atleast our future is secured.
