I was real dissapointed at the hating between rappers!(and im ME.lol)so it was a bit too much!!!
I mean JR got BOO'ed throughout his acceptance speech.
but overall GREAT EVENT BY HYPE!!!! i give em a ten!
Lymphatic Thabs had a whack performance(tellin C-Live to restart the track after fumbling a few lines,then sayin "Were in Midrand" at the Cocacola dome? last i checked we were in North Riding.hahahaha, then rounded it off by saying "South Africa must recognise that Prokid is not a better lyricist than him" crowd went wild!!!!! Pro was nowhere to be seen! :D it got real ugly out there.
I had mad fun meetin a lot of people i been wanting to get the chance to see. like TUMI(Took some pictures together too). MrC. Buff Pound. BLack Diamond. Crazy LU. XXXL. Raiko. Ben Sharpa(Had a lil freestyle session with him - he had a tight performance). and errbody man!
Where was MIZI n Simone? didnt c them at all?

I could only make it briefly on Sunday so i missed the weekend festivities due to my bro bein arrested so i had more serious matters to attend to. but i made it n i gotta say SA HIPHOP is GROWIN and its a positive thing!
Dissapointed that we didnt get nominated for "Best Group","Best Video" and KOLI for "Best Lyricist" and there was no "best newcomer" or "Best DVD/Multimedia" award - which we wudv snatched hands down.lol.
But im lookin forward to next yr!!!!

Big ups to Hype for the event.Was there on Sat and Sun.The setup was nice with all the different stands,basketball courts,car exhibitions,CD stalls,etc. There was a lot to do.Only problem was there was no crowds when most cats performed.They should summon everyone to the stands when someone is bound to perform cos people where all over the show. Awards were too nice.I had mad fun. Pro totally deserves it. Im glad he won. People need to stop hating cos dude is Mainstream. He worked hard for this shit.I remember Linda from back in the days of VOS killing cats left right and center. He's still talented as f***.Give props where they are due. Tabs had a WACK performance all around and then he's gonna claim he's a better lyricist than PRO ? Nigga pls.I struggle to hear what he says everytime he performs.Just cos u know a couple of big words don't mean your a dope lyricist. Was chilling with Khenzero throughout,we jumped like crazy when he won DJ of the Year.BIg ups to Homeboy,totally deserves it.Bigs ups to Ready D as well. as for the awards, i think in all respect, SOS deserved it, i did tell the cats that yo watch out for dem SOS cats, they been putting in work, the only thing is just to set our sights on the next gig, to move more units, get more exposure and get more people to listen to our music, thats all.
as for the best group category, c'mon there was now ay the anvils were gonna win that joint with Jozi up in thur? personally i look up to Jozi, when it comes to stage presence, the anvils have been working real hard to make their shows different, its just a pitty last night they only performed at the end, with only 3 people watching, so that wont count as a performance. but yeah catch them in PE next week if u wanna understand what im saying.
as for the rest of the wards? well people have poured their heart and soul into the organising and running of the gig, lets respect that and there will always be unhappy people and thast just how it goes with awards. lesson, let awards not define who people are and what hiphop is, you know what u r doing to contribute to the game, and you do not need no one to validate ur input, but the feeling you get when u lay ur head at night. awards are just some form of acknowledgement and even being nominated is just a pat o the back saying we see you, unfortunately categories can only have a finite no o nominees as a result there will always be people who will be left out. JUST KEEP GRINDING

i co-sign mrc with kenzhero deserving it and even PRO also deserving the win, no one can touch ready d, been doing his thang. as for haters, ah well fellas, HYpe has an open door polcy, Mizi is part of AG, hit them up wt ur suggestions for next year what can be done and what not.
as for the point in case about the exhibitions, i also co-siggy u there MRC, people should b called to coem check out the performancesm otherwise the attention gets scattered, perhaps the angle of having too much going on at the same time was kidna distractive, but m sure next year we will see a much smoother running show than this year, but again big ups to sims and king and the whole organising team

The weekend was dope at the Dome. Friday was a bit shaky cause of the weak attendance but all went great on Sat. I missed the awards but it was a great weekend for Hip hop in G.P.

i'd rather have vol 4 lose to the backpackers mixtape vol 3, it is a dope product all round and them cats are doing their thang, i ws happy for the category cos it means now cats can really put in effort into their mixtape game, on a real and thats whats exciting me. we should be putting out like 4 mixtapes a year and with the category being there now there is a reason to do so.

mmm, for my 2cents worth.... cats could have done more to fill up the venue, where was the support, or are we too busy hating?? as for hymphatic thabs, no sense of self respect or respect for his fans... all i saw was a stoned nicca who was not suppose to be given that platform, then mpho maboi making such a statement about kwaito, brave and very stupid! even if there's truth to that, as a radio personality i think she should have held back. Ace of Spades/Osmic which ever name you go by... (put a sock in it), please someone gagg him!!! but otherwise, it was quite an enjoyable event, and im sure from here, Hype can only make an even better awards ceremony. congratulations to everyone who was nominated and especially the winners. Ready D, nice speech, was good seeing Proverb on stage again, Ben Sharpa- nice performance, actually hype was introduced me to Ben Sharpa with Hegemony, and i lurrrrrved that track, tumi/zubz big ups, Pro congratulations, and nice to see you sharing your moment of glory with upcoming talent, uhhhh... the chick dancers who won that cash load, were real good! to all the graf artists liked your artwork on the walls. overall, well done!

I went through on saturday and sunday. generally, the event was dope - especially since it was the first of its time. as MrC already pointed out there were a lotta thngs going on - basketball games, b-boy competitions, other dance competitions, rap battles, skateboarding and bikes, pimped out rides (jokes), graf, dudes recordin joints, fleamarket type set up of different stores and exhibitions, fashion shows...it was really a lot to take in which was dope for variety purposes but it left some areas without spectators. for instance Ras performed and nobody was there to see it...same thing happened to Obita and i'm sure it happened to a lot more events/performers. i saw dude rockin to the ppl playing basketball - thats like 15 ppl max. it was great 2 have a million kids up in there supportin, but where were the ppl who wud lisn to ProVerb, B.Sharpa, Last Days Fam, etc? i saw a bunch of what looked like Jozi supporters, and thats good, but where was evry1 els? they all only seemed to appear when the awards started.but that just reminded me that a lot of ppl who supprt that type of music are rappers/producers/etc themselves.
presenters were...erm...interesting. Gogga (sp.) seemed like he didn wna b up on stage. infact, it seemed like he didn kno he was presenting an award. that Sizwe cat from MTV needs to chill, he just started swearing for the f*** of it and justifying it by saying its a hiphop event. on some "this is hiphop right, so how they gon not expect me to swear" :-\ what was also funny is that he managed to mention Roach Inc, Buff pound, The Anvils, PTA like 20 times in 30 seconds. nice one Buff...u might not have gotten the award but u defntly got some free marketing. thnk there was a thread not so long ago here on AG about kwaito being dead - well Mpho from Yfm seems to think so...when she was on stage she straight up said hiphop is/has killed kwaito. guess thats a topic for another day.
on the performances, B.Sharpa was extremely well received by the crwd. it was actually quite deep. Molly, who performed on Saturday, was disturbing. i mean, like i mentioned there were little kids there. and here's dude rappin bout his penis, climaxing and orgies, whatever else is in his rhymes. not a good look. Maggz, Les and Bongs hooked it up with that "Fire" joint...nice one. and a m'rapper will always be a m'rapper - Reason was backuping up ProVerb during Verbs performance. at the end Reason starts shouting out release dates for his own album...hahaha...gotta love emcees. guess when u get that chance u gotta take it. and Amu and Selwyn...not bad...Skwatta Kamp performance was wack...Tumi and Zubz was not mind blowing at all...
actual award ceremony was alright - cuda been more polished in terms of execution but it was only the first one. some idiot turned on the lights before they announced the last award. ppl started getn up to leave and Lee is on some "where is evry 1 going". Ready D's speech was tops. big ups to him.
Hype gets a ten out of ten for effort. they have set a high standard for themselves, hopefully things will go much smoother next year, and hopefully it will be better attended as well. to those who cudn make it, hade for you. to those who could but didn, shame on you. to those who were there...hope u enjoyed it as much as i did. even with all its down points, i still think it was a really good event.

With the hype awards being confirmed to be an annual event around the same time every year (September), does it mean there'll be less or even no releases from september til end of the year...will artists release at the beginning of every year as to qualify for the nominations???

I don't even want to think about this. The moment I saw it I had a million ideas going through my head about what it could be about and none of them were pleasant.

I went through on saturday and sunday. generally, the event was dope - especially since it was the first of its time. as MrC already pointed out there were a lotta thngs going on - basketball games, b-boy competitions, other dance competitions, rap battles, skateboarding and bikes, pimped out rides (jokes), graf, dudes recordin joints, fleamarket type set up of different stores and exhibitions, fashion shows...it was really a lot to take in which was dope for variety purposes but it left some areas without spectators. for instance Ras performed and nobody was there to see it...same thing happened to Obita and i'm sure it happened to a lot more events/performers. i saw dude rockin to the ppl playing basketball - thats like 15 ppl max. it was great 2 have a million kids up in there supportin, but where were the ppl who wud lisn to ProVerb, B.Sharpa, Last Days Fam, etc? i saw a bunch of what looked like Jozi supporters, and thats good, but where was evry1 els? they all only seemed to appear when the awards started.but that just reminded me that a lot of ppl who supprt that type of music are rappers/producers/etc themselves.
presenters were...erm...interesting. Gogga (sp.) seemed like he didn wna b up on stage. infact, it seemed like he didn kno he was presenting an award. that Sizwe cat from MTV needs to chill, he just started swearing for the f*** of it and justifying it by saying its a hiphop event. on some "this is hiphop right, so how they gon not expect me to swear" :-\ what was also funny is that he managed to mention Roach Inc, Buff pound, The Anvils, PTA like 20 times in 30 seconds. nice one Buff...u might not have gotten the award but u defntly got some free marketing. thnk there was a thread not so long ago here on AG about kwaito being dead - well Mpho from Yfm seems to think so...when she was on stage she straight up said hiphop is/has killed kwaito. guess thats a topic for another day.
on the performances, B.Sharpa was extremely well received by the crwd. it was actually quite deep. Molly, who performed on Saturday, was disturbing. i mean, like i mentioned there were little kids there. and here's dude rappin bout his penis, climaxing and orgies, whatever else is in his rhymes. not a good look. Maggz, Les and Bongs hooked it up with that "Fire" joint...nice one. and a m'rapper will always be a m'rapper - Reason was backuping up ProVerb during Verbs performance. at the end Reason starts shouting out release dates for his own album...hahaha...gotta love emcees. guess when u get that chance u gotta take it. and Amu and Selwyn...not bad...Skwatta Kamp performance was wack...Tumi and Zubz was not mind blowing at all...
actual award ceremony was alright - cuda been more polished in terms of execution but it was only the first one. some idiot turned on the lights before they announced the last award. ppl started getn up to leave and Lee is on some "where is evry 1 going". Ready D's speech was tops. big ups to him.
Hype gets a ten out of ten for effort. they have set a high standard for themselves, hopefully things will go much smoother next year, and hopefully it will be better attended as well. to those who cudn make it, hade for you. to those who could but didn, shame on you. to those who were there...hope u enjoyed it as much as i did. even with all its down points, i still think it was a really good event.

Whether or not he was kidding, only Thabz knows for sure. When they interviewed PRO he said he was quite disappointed that someone of his caliber would do that. He said he has always respected Thabz's craft as their paths had crossed many a times in cyphers/shows/battles since back in the days,etc. Says he still respects what he does musically but what went down was totally uncalled for and a big disappointed to him,especially since he thought they were COOL. Not sensationalizing people, just reported it like it was said.This is a news site as well isnt it ?
