Title: Current top hip hop sellers
Post by: Headwarmaz on October 08, 2008, 11:45:03 PM
Current top-sellers (sellouts?) in hip hop…

T.I.  shocks many, not only going gold within one week, but taking the number one spot by a sound margin. Paper Trail beat out #2 debut Jennifer Hudson by over 300,000 units, as Atlantic Records' flagship artist reminds fans that while he's not performing quite as strongly as Lil Wayne's first week on the charts, he's well beyond perceived competition Young Jeezy, The Game and Nas, in commercial viability.

Rank   Artist                Album               This Week   Est. Total
1   T.I.                 Paper Trail   568,383                569,361
3   Robin Thicke   Something Else   136,944                137,204
12   Young Jeezy   Recession   38,754                489,675
14   Lil Wayne                Tha Carter III   34,553                 2,523,278
18   The Game   LAX                28,105                476,020

Murs' presidential campaign did not lead the Los Angeles rapper to the top. However, Murray found his strongest debut in his career, cracking the Top 50. Murs For President entered the charts at #43, making the release Warner Brothers' best Hip Hop showing since Talib Kweli's Ear Drum The release just edged out DJ Khaled's We Global.
With less than a month on the charts, LL Cool J may soon be leaving the Top 100. The icon emcee's Exit 13 found its place at #88 this past week, at just under 75,000 units sold.

Rank   Artist       Album                        This Week         Est. Total
43   Murs       Murs For President      12,159         12,590
45   DJ Khaled       We Global             11,863          79,490
88   LL Cool J        Exit 13              6,940          73,112
99   Z-Ro        Crack                          5,793          16,310
199   T.I.        T.I. Vs. TIP             3,271           1,309,476

Nah, maybe Shawty Low & company that wrote dude off. Off the strength of No Matter What I knew dude was still on point. No really feeling Whatever you like, but with the street video in that naysayer's Bowen Homes hood; when he pulled out the foldout garden chair & parked, threw a big @ss braai for everyone in the dude's hood with enough prior advertising of his whereabouts & intentions, even went to the dude's doorstep looking for him, :D it was wrap :

Unfortunate turn of events for the Icon that's LL. But what were the chances Def jam would put alot of manpower behind this given his last record and being clear it's the last album in the contract. Was this the record Curtis Executive Produced?

Current top hip hop sellers
October 15th, 2008 | Author: Jake Paine

Regardless of selling over 500,000 less units than the week before, T.I.  did not budge, holding the #1 spot for the second week, after his third straight top-spot debut. Paper Trail ] held Metallica off by over 100,000 units as Atlanta's top-selling rapper is on likely pace to go platinum this week amidst an album campaign that's several singles from over. Time will tell how T.I. stands when Kanye West and 50 Cent enter the charts before year's end.

Top 200 Album Sales (Top 5 Hip Hop/R&B)

Rank             Artist                   Album                   This Week                      Est. Total
1                     T.I.                      Paper Trail          176,714                          746,075
13                  Lil Wayne           Tha Carter III      27,229                         2,550,507
15                  Young Jeezy       Recession             26,801                          516,476
21                  The Game         LAX                        20,809                         496,829

Having left Rap-A-Lot for Razor & Tie, Devin The Dude  gets a strong independent debut with his album Landing Gear [click to read]. Although released to mix reaction, the effort places the Dude considerably higher than Z-Ro, his former peer, who's sustained on the bottom of the charts for three consecutive weeks in Crack. Murs'  fell nearly 100 spots in the charts, despite a lively MTV presence. However, if Murs For President  can shop a single to radio, as witnessed a year ago with Lupe Fiasco's "Superstar," the Los Angeles independent veteran could have one of the more chart-long-lasting efforts of the quarter.

Nas and LL Cool J hold rank near the bottom of the charts. Untitled  cracks the 400,000 benchmark, and trucks towards a gold plaque by year's end. With Jay-Z, Jadakiss  and Kanye West, plus the present success of Ne-Yo and Young Jeezy at Def Jam, time will tell if the label continues to work its once flagship artist two short years ago.

The "Grammy Family" may be gearing up for a chart takeover, with Kanye West and Common coming soon, and John Legend's Evolver being a Top 3 debut. T.I. traveled from that #3 spot to #7, a strong fall for the Atlanta rapper, whose now eclipsed the platinum, million mark with his Paper Trail
Lil Wayne stayed in his mid-twenties zone of recent, selling Tha Carter III, strongly towards three million. Young Jeezy remains strong with his Recession, again staying a few notches above LAX.

Rank  Artist                  Album                      This Week                 Est. Total
4     John Legend          Evolver                      132,823                   133,094
7        T.I.                   Paper Trail                  76,560                     1,047,627
15    Ne-Yo             Year of the Gentleman       26,574                      548,027
20    Lil Wayne            Tha Carter III               23,037                      2,624,722
28    Young Jeezy      Recession                       17,412                       578,973

The Game and LAX fell out of the Top 30 for the first time, still in a crowded pack with another potential chance at Top 25. Nelly was over 10,000 units behind with Bra** Knuckles, an area not occupied by any rap release.
DJ Khaled cracked the six-figure mark with his We Global. However, for independent artists, few were more shocking than Joe Budden, returning to the Top 200 for the first time in five years, with his digital album Halfway House, selling over 3,000 paid downloads.

Rank      Artist                    Album                   This Week                    Est. Total
35     The Game                  LAX                      14,121                               545,974
112    Nelly                        Bra** Knuckles       4,738                               157,063
126   DJ Khaled                We Global                3,535                               101,046

185   Ice Cube                Raw Footage               3,093                              164,191
