Title: who are you voting for?
Post by: the panic! on March 11, 2009, 12:18:27 PM
so who you voting for?

this ain't '94 so why should you keep that shit secret? be loud and proud! it's your right!  ;D

i was too hungover (naturally) to register, but i'm making up for it by bribing a staunch apathist to stand in for me at the polls. he promises to draw a little cross next to COPE in exchange for two (shared) cases of beer.

what's your story?

You see people if a new party takes over, they we will be back to square one coz they first have to fill up their stomaches (just like the ANC is full of corruption) as they are not used to having access to  money but iANC has aready done that so from now on they will do their job.

i don't know, man. voting is just a participatory sport to me. you root for someone, but at the end of the day cla** stratification won't disappear in the world.

being in the middle cla** and the private sector, i can honestly say there isn't a single positive, constructive thing that comes from my job. it's the type that's tailor-made for the middle-cla**: to take care of me and mine, and buy us loads of worthless shit we don't need (excluding ibhiya ne nkaw'za obvsiously).

but i still have hopes of becoming some kind of radical educationist, or even - yes - a teacher. so i guess what i'm saying is that you guys should ask yourselves what you are doing. not those clowns in parliament. most of the people here are middle-cla** and the others are being groomed into it in varisty. once you're in, that shit will never change - you will be good now, and in worse times, you will be better than most.

it's in our hands, really.

am helluva conflicted.. & am not even south african.. the ANC's hegemony on the state [all levers] is worrisome to say the least.. detest COPE's fixation with the black middle cla**.. and this indicates some glaring deficiencies in it's electoral strategy & policy pronouncements.. it's the poor we ought to be concerned about..

AZAPO is definitely a good look..

ANC to the death !!! Dudes inherited quite a f***ed up country which catered for whites only through the sweat of mainly black people might i remind you. Instead of focusing all their efforts, finance, etc, on 2 million white people, they gotta do it for 47 million people. That aint child'ds play. Yeah there's been corruption yadayada. What government doesn't have corruption ? Please do tell. They will always be greedy individuals in every part of life. The Nationalist Government was the most corrupt of all. Ya'll think Azapo doesn't have Corrupt officials ? It's not about that. It's about policies. And Progress. And god knows there's been progress in this country.Ya'll on the Internet now, with fly jobs, cars and shit.Who u think made that possible.U think peeps in Sudan have this kind of shit ? It might be progress for some, but it's still progress.

Zuma is gonna suprise a lot of people as president. Clearly most of ya'll just know what u read in the papers. Have u ever listened to a radio talk show where they were interviewing the man ? I've listened to countless and every he impresses me and comes out on top everytime, with his detractors falling flat on their faces. He's got some good ideas i think. Like having some sort of "detention school" where kids who are roaming the streets and are supposed to be in school will be taken for the rest of the afternoon by the police. I can hear most of ya'll already, but for me that's ACTION right there. Isn't that what South African's want ? ACTION ? Better Matric Results ? Less Crime ? Well desperate times call for desperate measures.I have confidence in someone who has the guts to take action.Get these kids f***en educated whether they like it or not. And yeah, bring back that coporal punishment. Zuma has always been for the people, ya'll just missed it cos of all the other bullshit.

At the beginning I thought you were going to go into details here MrC so i can really understand why so many people believe in this man but you just didnt say much besides the point about the detention idea. since when has detention been that effective on kids? this idea sounds like someone in primary school came up with it. is this a joke? maybe i shouldnt be quick to judge and find out what kind of detention really he is talking about.

I've heard Zuma speak numerous times too, interviews on TV and on radio and he has yet to impress me, not even a little bit. I used to defend this cat before I ever heard him say anything either than a written speach. first time heard him responding to questions in parliament years ago and i was very disappointed but had not started disliking him yet. that was before the scandals.

Ya'll think Azapo doesn't have Corrupt officials ?

none i've heard of.. mosibodi mangena's been one of the more level headed ministers in the last 10 yrs..
nonetheless the shenanigans i refer don't only relate to corruption and are primarily related to the trappings that come with incumbency.. the blurring of the line between party & state being the first that comes to mind.. & the delegitimisation of opposition parties being another.. [have to be out.. will try put down my thoughts more coherently later]

most black peeps acknowledge that bro, pro and anti-zuma. the ANC has a lot of intellegent mofos up in there. the shit that party has done for us is great bro. i still take it personal when i hear people saying the gorvenment hasnt done fokol for us. it angers me deeply bro. But lets not be ignorant though. Zuma and the rest of the mofos trying to run things are very questionable. if Zuma showed signs of intellegence and the leaders supporting him appeared to be really about the people as they claim to be I would have no problem voting for the ANC. Corruption is part of politics but that doesnt mean we havent to entertain leaders treating the ma**es like we all completely dumb. These cats are not for the people man, they're for each other and for their pockets. my vote not going to the ANC is just a form of protest. I still do believe the party can achieve even greater but f*** them for now.

and the ANC doesnt want any other party in SA, and so does the A-Party, FF+, UDM, ACDP, etc.

are you sure that the IFP is the real problem in KZN? if yes, please explain.
Title: Re: who are you voting for?
Post by: Mrs Jones on March 13, 2009, 12:41:12 PM
I cant say IFP is the problem in KZN because people in kzn whether with the anc or nt do acknowlage the amount of work the IFP has done in kzn. The anc ofcoz like you said, doesnt want any other party to rule in S.A except them. As you can tell, the IFP will not take that lying down as they demand kzn to be "their" turf, the ANC doesnt wanna give up either as theyr driven by their own greed so its two doggs pulling on one bone. Its the same fight with Helen Z and the western cape, but thats another debate all together as the people ekasi seem to think that Helen is anti-black, LOL apparently she said shes gona send all the people living in shacks back to the eastern cape as they are making her city dirty, theyr nt getting houses from her. Hahahahahahahaha lol i told my cousin that i wouldnt be suprised if that story is being spread by the anc.

Yikes MrC. I have to say that I know Zuma pretty well. He's been a friend of my family for a very long time. Before even becoming MEC in KZN. I have to say that as a person he is flawed as all people are, and he is a somewhat decent person. I just don't believe that what you hear on the radio are the opinions of the man. He has played the political game, but statesmanship is something that his cronies can never teach him. He faced a barrage of criticism over his somewhat inconsistent stand on wanting to clear his name. Dropping of charges was not an acquittal and the quicker he wraps his head around that the better it will be for his impending presidency. He can never make judgement calls on any of his cronies - that is worrisome. He has to ability to talk to people and not at people. Maybe that's a good thing, but the role of a president like a good CEO or MD is to get the job done regardless of how many a**es you kiss.

It cannot be dismissed solely on the fact that other countries are filled with corrupt politicians - that's a seriously flawed argument. South Africa is a country on its own and should not be compared to others. That goes the same for those who want to leave because there are better countries. The argument is not whether politicians in other parts of the world are more or less corrupt - we should be concerned with getting our house in order. I lived (and continue to live on a monthly basis) in Argentina and that country is as corrupt as they come. Dating back to the 50s the country has come to accept corruption as a way of being. That cannot be acceptable in South Africa in any way. The problem with having a president who has f***ed up and never apologised for his being implicated in illicit activities is that the rest of the population will take their cue from the first citizen when faced with issues of where to draw the line. This is by no means a personal attack on the man.

Bringing a country like Sudan into this is also a bit ill informed. I worked in the country and trust me it's one of the safest places I have been. We here of Khartoum and all that happens there. That is a region that is actually fighting for self-determination. John Garang died after having fought for decades against the government of Al Bashir. He came to the table and there was a power sharing and peace deal. The former to later be the deputy president of a united Sudan. Upon his death all things went sour because the south had felt that Garang had not represented their true wishes - to be an autonomous state.

to the two previous posts. i a**ist african (predominantly) governments draft policy on safety and arms management. it's hard to explain, but we find post conflict areas and try our best to get the guns off the hands of citizens and into the hands of those who can and will handle them with responsibility. we draft intervention and training manuals for UN agencies that ensure that peace keeping interventions are sustainable and go fairly smoothly. mind you the shit almost always hits the fan. from having to be immediately evacuated to having to sit down with the f***ers from the LRA in Uganda trying to convince them that war is not the best option.

Im a bit dismayed.. up until now i was confident in who my vote will be for... but now running up to the day i feel more and more the ANC dont deserve my vote. if the man on top cannot come out and tell us how his ideas and solutions are better than his peers in their prescence then how the hell should i trust that he has any?

and i feel if the ANC wins with a big margin it will further make thier complacency worse. so ive decided to vote for someone else.. in the hope that they do not recieve majority votes and therefore kickin them into some sort of reality check that if they dont buckle up they wont be leading in the coming future.

argh!

Ok so i have it on very good authority that the DA's plan is to use the western cape as a blue print to what they could do for the entire country... for those who dont know the DA runs the western cape (Zille is the mayor and was voted the best mayor in the world if im not mistaken) the western cape in terms of service delivery and such is boss compared to the other provinces which the ANC runs...

The plan si to use the "success" theu wouldve achieved with the western cape to say "look what we did here vote for us and we shalll do it for u too"

anyway my question is this. if this is to happen... what are the chances that DA will start gettin the "black" vote? if the ANC doesnt deliver?

what are your thoughts?

wont happen anytime soon, dun. dont believe the hype. the western cape still lives under apartheid, more than a decade after the fact.

its very unlikely my man. if you live in the ghetto you wouldnt understand what makes Hellen Zille the best mayor in the world. The conditions there are kak. There seems to be a lot of hate for this woman in these areas, hence one guys statement yesterday in Gugs was saying, "Zille is best mayor of the white world". and other comments that i over heard from people in voting lines were of extreme hate for this women. it seems like other people too this side feel voting for the ANC is whats best to do to get this woman to lose.

man first i thought that these COPE  niccas were really going to bring change but now im sceptical, dudes been arguing about who should be copes leader in palrialment and who shouldve contested for president in the recent elections, but for a political party that has just established last year i understand their confusion and conflicst, im sure in no time they will settle the disputes and come up with something that the supporters can follow not this in and out shit. im wondering if put the x on the wrong place :-[
