Oh! I see you pulling a Glen Agliotti on me *you snitch* how can you expose my ignorance to the whole AG  'bout the Karoo but there is a "dry" place between kimberley and Upington where they grow grapes for wine.  I still hate wine though, my cousin's girlfriend like doing some embara**ing acrobating dance move when she had that four cousin and she's fcukin fat.

You people are on some advanced ish . I just started messing with wine recently and  I dont know much. However, I do know that 4 cousins is a no go zone. So what can you get at your retailer (Woolies and Spar).

Oh.. what causes pink lips. Not wine, I hope.Whisky or brandy?

ha ha ha i always try not to drink wine when i go out but instead of throwing up (I never waste alcohol) I always drunk-dial an ex which always ends in disaster the morning after the nite before. But I love dry red wine man. my ultimate dream is to have at least 5 bottles of Meerlust Rubicon 2000 just lying idle somewhere in my kitchen but alas  :'(

Cabernet Sauvignon

i've only learnt last week how to pronounce that part correctly, thanks to a homie of mine, before that I never dared to say it out loud enough. I just say the Cabernet *pause a bit* then the waiter, usually, finishes that last part for me. I love red wine but these french names have had me, on many oca**ions, settle for Shiraz because its easier to pronounce.

i think Spar Tops has a really decent selection and reasonably priced too.

Id advice you to just do a trial and error and stock up on some reds and whites from the different wine farms. Eventually you will find the one that suits you. For the red wines, you should definately go for the older ones like something from 2004 or earlier.

that statement in bold cancels out the sentence u wrote before because there are way too many wines on the market New, Jack meaning you are going to drink Four Cousins for the rest of your life if you dont "buy wine unless you have tasted it".

aint nothing wrong with 4 cousins rosę if you like sweet wines.
also try the ROBERTSONS SWEET RED or their ROSę.

If we are talking dry reds then u cant go wrong with either

Spuitsdrift shiraz ( R30 max)

or

Nederburg Baronne (R90 - 120)?

and then the alpha & omega for me is
Constantia Uitsig Cab Merlot blend (maybe max R180 now)

ps - four cousins is cooldrink  ;D

You bunch of showoffs ;D you know damn well I don't know anything about wine... so I'll just enter this conversation as the Jester to you of such Royal habits.

Water to Wine

An Irish priest is driving down to New York and gets stopped for speeding in Connecticut. The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest's breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car.
He says, "Sir, have you been drinking?"
"Just water," says the priest. The trooper says, "Then why do I smell wine?"
The priest looks at the bottle and says, "Good Lord! He's done it again!"

a house wine is the restaurant's particular wine.same with the store.
like a "this is OUR shit"
see it as their "generic" offering.

that's my understanding.

Yep but I don't trust that house wine crap. Cause you never see the bottle they always bring you a gla**. Kanti it's Crackling.

I once ordered a gla** of "Nedeberg Shiraz" at Berlin this guy brings me something and I can taste it's not what I ordered. I asked to see the bottle. It took him a good 15 minutes and Berlin ins not that big and t was not packed at all. He brings me some dodgy a** bottle and turns it around to cover the label. So I read it and ask him what was going on. Kanti he poured a gla** of some other ish and they didn't actually have Nedeberg. So after that, I only order wine by the bottle especially in dodgy a** establishments.

Esih, four cousins had me puking on my blankets with my momz and dad standing on top of me... Dad slapping me like besithetha leway ye nombolo and zandisalela... He on some Kwedini (I become this when I've messed up) I want you out of my house 1st thing in the morning, I say ok and probably blacked out.

Next day dude tells me to wash my blankets (we do not have a washing machine) and I can't even pick up my head... He tells everyone at home not to dare help me out... unforgettable day.

Anywway, anyone tasted Nederberg? How is it?

PS: Stick to castle lager.

And its usually cheaper than other wine they have. Am I right?

Yes.house wine tastes that cheap "Ta**enberg" dry red....that "nagmaal wyn" (ask the catholics)...

Housewine should only be used to ply someone with alcohol whom ,you dislike but, is sponging off you for the day.

Stay away from the Housewine.
I agree with Baldi..you let them pour that shit infront of you!
otherwise ...rather just stick to beer in restaurants and drink wine at home where you can experiment with which one you like.

Ps - dont buy the WINEGUIDES in shops ...the jargon is f***ing confusing. You dont want to have a doctorate just to buy a bottle.
just experiment and see what you like.

a house wine is the restaurant's particular wine.same with the store.
like a "this is OUR shit"
see it as their "generic" offering.

that's my understanding.

And its usually cheaper than other wine they have. Am I right?

Just when I wasthinking what if these restuarants do that.

LMAO

eish four cousins.......nci nci im begining to think these ag cats arent that smart and cool afterall, onekind talked about sippin crackling and paarl, now this dude is talking four cousins WTF

i hate type of wine, so this makes me hate four cousins more, never tasted it and never will, its affordable but its not for me and besides i hate cheap booze its not good, only thing you gon get is actin fool in public and get ur a** poked for life.

remember  when i had too much of paarl perle back in the days, was my first time drinking that shit and as soon as i tasted it i quickly fell inlove with the sweet and grapy taste, so i took it in substantial amounts. thats all i remember, next thing i wake up in the morning in some shack with american rappers pasted everywhere in the wall and some old a** madala snoring on my feet. turns out i blacked out and this naughty friend i had put me in his uncles pozie and  i ended up sharing a bed with that ol'dude.

he snored the f*** out and i swear i felt a hand touchin my feet.

That would be correct. I did last year though when my flatmate started drinking it was the only thing she'd drink. I hate it cause it's so sweet.

Drinking (alcoholism really) like any other respectable institution in this world has its stages. So unless you grew up with a well-stocked cellar in your basement you have to have had some Or something similar in your student days to get to a point where you now look down on people who actually enjoy the following:
-Ta**enberg-Four Cousins-Old Brown Cherry
and every good alcoholic worth their liver goes back to these old favourites when times are tough or to inintiate a new recruit... to reminisce on the student days, skipping cla** to park out on the lawn and just spend the whole day drinking. Ah, the good old days  :'(

not me!

Dad is  a BEE baron. he's owned a car dealership in Port Elizabeth since the early eighties (his father was a share-cropper who sent him to St. Andrews College in the 1960's). Mom owned a printing press in London with a friend before coming back to South Africa with me (i was born there) in 1993. she consulted for the homeland government and  published her own magazine which i started writing for when i was ten.

i don't know what it's like to have to settle for something because you can't afford the thing that you want. is it a bad feeling?

We used to steal a sip or two every sunday. this shit tasted great. yoh, i've been driking red wine since age ten? this could be the reason for my good health and young looks.

In my circles four Cousins is worshiped as the real shit. Peeps call it Mzala. I did taste that shit and it was not nice.  It tasted like any other cheap wine.  Mad mentioned Paarl and this took me back in high school.  Niggaz in the hood called it Perel and it was preferred warm b’coz it went into the system quick. It was a perfect   starter   on a night -out, as it minimized costs for a crew to be satisfied. Niggaz believed whether  you drink cheap or expensive booze you reach the same state of drunkenness.  The funny part about drinking “Perel” is that when niggaz hadn’t gulped it, it is hidden as it is stigmatized by the society but when it’s on the veins niggaz hoist the empty bottle in the air in song  entering them till they r full. Perel tales r cla**ical.

if its not wine then

Heineken
Vodka & lime
savannah *light* must be a light, not tryna wake up with my face hanging from the floor!
