ay apparently the cat who came up with the concept of beatstreet was jacked. They okeydoked him and then he saw the flick come out with other cats names credited. I remember reading that recently. The freestyle documentary is said to be on some ish. I enjoy docus more because i´m more a fan of the camcorder than the bg budget shit. The revenge of the robots was ill for me, and I also got this one called sad clown bad dub:the god loves ugy release parties from rhymesayers. Another one is the stonesthrowdvd, has all the madvillain flicks and a 40 track mix cd by peanut butter wolf which i havent yet watched waiting for the right company. Maybe when you guys come visit we´ll peep it. Another one that comes to mind s the freshest kids, history of breaking some dope footage on that shit. If MArtha Cooper had to make a flick she´ kill it too

The Innovators World!!! I hope I get this to you all for real. I´m feeling it. Doccie style as someone above said. Keep ya eyes open.
But otherwise outside of Africa; Hype´s Belly is still sick to me, the first FRIDAY is also cla**ic, Murder was the case (the one where Deathrow was at it´s height and they had all those videos in it) that was tight.
BUT NOTHING has been done better (or I just have´nt seen better) than STREETS IS WATCHING. That flick makes you appreciate REASONABLE DOUBT and IN MY LIFETIME VOL 1 on another level.

U know lots of this stuff like Streets is watching, and those docu-flicks........I never seen before anywhere.WHere u peeps get em?And lemme guess, they all copies right?Str8 off a bro that got it from a bro that jacked it from a sister´s cuzin that ripped it off the net? :-]

Anyways, Friday.........cla**ic.Btw, what is a hip hop film anyways?Whats the definition and whats the true meaning of it?Is it simply a movie with rap music in it, or actually a movie dealing with hip hop and its elements?I´d think the latter........but whats the view of the peeps?
Title: ya favorite hip hop film?
Post by: TNGlive on December 12, 2004, 08:50:00 AM
As you said, the latter.

Title: ya favorite hip hop film?
Post by: MaddStone on December 12, 2004, 09:08:00 AM
Well, if the latter, then movies like Friday and the like wont really constitute being hip hop films. So, I dont think I could answer the subject line question cause I have never seen a so-called hip hop film in its truer sense.

Story-wise, U got served was pretty basic.Nothing great. But them moves man, and the music to back it up, were superb.I skipped thru all the blah blah´s and just peeped the moves. The best.

I wouldnt say Friday was anything really hip hop, but it was str8 ghetto and madd funny.

im sorry, alot of dvds mentioned ive either not seen(hiphop honeys, you got seved{lol} stylewarz, the freschest kids, u wanna battle{rush holla}) or havent seen in a minute(beatstreet) but nobody went out of their way to mention the illest one  of them all

THE HISTORY OF SCRATCH

made me wanna be a dj, in fact i still wanna be a dj.sick dvd right there. it didnt just outline hole the scratch came into being but it was a hiphop lesson that changed my perception snd view of what it is n its importance to existance.get a copy if u feel a dj is just there to spin wax. dudes pay tribute to innovators(invisible skratch piklz, xecutionerz, grandwizzard theodore, djz z-trip, naut human, primo and ootz the puntang scratch scientizt)too bad i lost my copy of it. im on the grind though, not many stores stock that shit.

honrable mention

revenge of the robots
the chronic tour
dmc championship dvds

When I think of Hip Hop Documentaries that really capture the esscence of the crafrt on a street level
WORD UP - A HIPHOPUMENTARY stands out in my mind.
:-o

Can´t wait for that Innovators World DVD though..Has anything like that ever been done in this country? Not to mention the fact that it will come packaged with a FREE (Yes el cheapos FREE) copy (read: Silver CDR with my ugly writing on it) of the HIPHOCALYPSE REMIX-Tape 8-)

Don't know if this is a hip-hop film, but it was full of rap-actors. BELLY, Hype Williams' first attempt at a movie. Watch between the lines and you'll see why: Lots of lessons to be learnt, lots of scenes relating to various artist's lyrics in albums, it's not all about the guns they were there for an important purpose.

It was an important stepping stone for hip hop. All these artists were speaking about violence and drugs in their music and in the end they showed how wrong it was. It used stereotypes to break them.

Belly, Belly, Belly, Belly.
Title: hip hop and rap two differant topics
Post by: RuSh on March 30, 2005, 05:39:13 AM
i think there is a differance between a film thats related to hip hop and one that features rappers where nothing bout the art is showcased so something like belly i would not say its a hip hop flick if you watch the freshest kids or widstyle u can clearly see the focus is on hip hop and not some film that have ja rule or dmx in

Well, i thought belly was good...and i would cla**ify that as a hip-hop flick, besides the fact that they had rappers or whatever, they did have certain aspects of the lifestyle, or rather the characters cud mos def be cla**ified as hip-hop. a movie doesnt have to be blatantly in-yo-face hip-hop to be cla**ified so(my earnest opinion)l....

Belly comes to mind immeiately. When I first saw that it the the Hype Williams era where any video that dude did was the isht. Then he did the next best thing, gave me a looooooooong-a$$ video disguised as a movie. I loved it.

Side note; The big production company (read hollywood bigwigs) producing that did Hype Williams wrong in major way. The NAs character was supposed to really go to BecomingPhil's land (Namibia) with his wife (Tboz) character. The story was going to conitue with him finding a new lease on life coming clean while in Africa. They were really going to film half the movie here -the DMX character had to be re-written hence they had that Etv movie ending and chaepness to it at the end. That DMX charcter was'nt really going to find the "church"
..but what happened? Hollywood powers decided nah...the movie was'nt going to generate the desired income. These are the same peop who think What are Girls wants -or whatever the Britney Spears movie was called is a brilliant idea. SH!y man we gotta get up in this and run it if we want to see movies of "Nyami Nyami" and high speed chases down the N1 damn it!
Title: fresh kids

I love the Wildstyle theme. Also dig how Nas used it as an intro on Illmatic. That's hiphop right there. Those old school rappers are mad funny too.

Other hiphop footage I would like to check out is the "Battle of the year" series.  I was able to download some clips like the 2003 final with France vs South Korea. That ish is DOPe. Unfortunately those DvD's cost an arm and a leg. You can cop it on battleoftheyear.com or www.backspin.de .

Bit lazy to go through post *shrug*

Anyone mentioned the following?

Scratch - tight-a** documentary on turntablism feat everybody whose somebody in the history of hip-hop, from Primo to mixmaster mike to Qbert to blah blah

Freestyle - the one screened as resfest in CPT this year... on MC'in n freestyling - highlight= cla**ic epic battle btw Supernat n Craig G (got an mp3 version.... gotta post it sometime...illll)

BrownSugar - Corny story...but cute... n very affectionate twards Hiphop... featuring some tight interviews too... even though its a fiction film

Wavetwisters - the most insaaaaaaaaaaaane shit u'll ever see. Animated story...used flash or summing.... bout an hour long..... this shit is on some other LSD trip... u get high by watching it... can only recommend smoking a big fat one and sitting thru it. TIGHT. Sound done by QBERT, DSTYLES, DJ DISK n DJ FLARE. All the 'vocals' n sound effects are scratched n sampled.... Was also released as standalone music album.... basically every song is a chapter in the story... you GOTTA see this.

Dirty Hands 2 - Graff film.... crazy bombing...amazing pieces etc.... highlight: subway rolls into station in broad daylight with ppl standin all over platform. As train slows down... 10 hooded cats jump onto tracks and start bombing the train before it even comes to a full stop. After 30 secs train pulls off again.....fully decorated. Ppl just standin around like WTF..

Bastard Language Tour - Hamma just hooked me up with this one the other day... tight. 5 turntablists. (Dstyles, Rikki ruccus, Mike Boogie, Excess....and some other f***r) doing some 'MUSICAL' turntablism shit...nice compositions....Music of the future? Perhaps...

'La Heine' (Hate)- French film...black n white... not directly focused on hip-hop but story set in french 'Banlieue' (Ghettos) of marseille. Features graff, bboyin djin in surroundings.....one of the tightest movies you will EVER see... (and not just in hip-hop context) - kinda similar vibe to 'City of God'

DONT MISS THIS ONE.

Will drop some more if i can think of any...

Peace
