This weekend i heard the 1st singles from both the PROs(Pro-kid and Pro-verb) 8) I lyk what i heard from both of them and I cant wait to hear the whole albums. I think they r both ill but if you had to choose one of them as the illest who would it be?
-
PRO KID no doubt.
-
Naturelle what do u think of their 1st traxx?
-
I prefer Pro Kid
-
Proverb....no doubt...anyday..allday....all the time and wait till his album drops and i wonder if all y'all will still be singing da same tune.
-
we are gonna have to wait and see mach...
-
PRO KID no doubt.
-
Steak all the way!
But only because I think the other Pro is running with some shady management...can anyone say "Chicken Licken?"
-
Pro kid, but hey what do i know I'm new here!
-
Machiavella I also hav 2 go with verb, if that 'i hav a dream' track is anything 2 go by then that album shuld be great.
cant wait for both of them tho.
-
The two PRO's are both HOT!!! but eish imma have to go with proverb, theres just sumthing about that boys flow...he's tooo smoooth!!
-
f*** wat u heard... proverb is tyt... kid has not touched me yet...
touch me ...squeeze me
-
what's so shady about chicken licken sensai?
-
I don't for yall, but I personally think Pro Verb is the Canibus of South Africa. No Mc in S.A can touch him when it comes to punchlines and freestyles. He just does it for me. 8O
-
what's so shady about chicken licken sensai?
Just dont know about Sid & em Dplanet...
I personally prefered Mike since he was in touch with Linda when they was growing up I understand.
Think "Chicken Licken" may get him further in the game fo sure but @ what cost?...
-
What don't you know about me?! And besides,,, i got nothing to do with PK's management.
-
Pro kid, but hey what do i know I'm new here!
Welcome to the playground Mode....
-
btw according to the latest HYPE...both the PRO's are dropping albums in march ...so we'll definitely see who has the best album...
after endless arguments with friends...i conceded that if proverb and prokid had to go toe to toe...Prokid would whip Proverb's behind but also it was admitted that Studio-wise...Proverb might come out a winner....
Looking forward to March....coolness
-
Dug this one up coz I think it may be relevant now...
Everyone knows that ProVERB's album is here now...
But what about that other PRO? Prokid?...I hope I wasnt right about his management & Gallo politics & this project does actually see the light of day in March as announced. :?
-
you'll just have to wait and see,,,
-
i'll choose pro-verb anyday bn a fan of his since i heard him do a freestyle battle on metro fm on the show that phat joe hosted
-
I hope I wasnt right about his management & Gallo politics & this project does actually see the light of day in March as announced. :?
Looks like I was right...
So whens Pro-Kid's album been pushed back til?
-
a couple more weeks i heard... apparently there's a few beat-makers who haven't signed their producer agreements,,, and they can't go ahead with them.
hehe,,, don't be so cynical tate :)
-
Personally, I don't like either of them.Nothing bad about them individually, Only with the people I chill and rhyme with, we all consider the 'PRO's ', Amu's, Selwyn's, and Skwatta Kamp's of South Africa to be wack.

it will be iteresting to learn who you don't consider wack
-
I have been brought up in a hiphop culture that doesnt giv a f*** about who you are, just what you can do. I used to like Proverb when he was an unknown battling through the metro fm telephone cables. Somewhere he fell off . You can compare him to Jin, sick on Freestyle Fridays, but shit when realised the hype he had created.
The emcees I been taught and am still being taught by in hiphop, ranging from archetypes, driemanskap, groundworks, fifth floor are those i look up to as a the balancng figure of what we all truly or pretend to love.
my opinion is that the proverb's of this country do hiphop from the benefits they saw on television, namely money. It's not a crime making your profession your main source of income, but in my view, your lyrics must at all times reflect your past, present &future.
I'm far from placing myself on a pedestal and saying I'm the next best thing. It's not being one of the best that interests me, it's how I get there.
Sorry for doing an essay. I really don't like those umRappers
-
I got no beef with peeps anymore regarding this type of topic.I just go on the premise that its all a matter of taste and what one person likes isnt gonna be the same thing that another may like.
But its just that though many ppl wont admit, it does seem evident in many instances that 'heads' feel that once u signed the dotted line u immediately gone wack.I think its a breathe of fresh air to read the Ras Ka** interview and see his view on the whole matter. Its a business after-all when it comes to a label, so its hard to fight it.U just gotta try and strike the correct compromise.
But ya, such is life.

dont let the pre-meds fool you son
-

Funny how you from Ikappa & all the emcees you mentioned you like just happen to be out of Cape?..not saying...but just sayin though...
-
Too true Deacon.
-
Bexta on Yfm admitting KID beat VERB 8O
Damn sounds like a nice battle I missed..
-
platoon dungeon dwellers..
groundworx.. archetypes.. driemanskaap
hhehe i dig being in cape town!
-
So u finally settling into the scene, huh? Not like those other Jhb hip hop junkies supporting whateva's not real hip hop and calling it hip hop. No one get me wrong Im just saying stuff, no beef. I just prefer my backyard, homegrown.
-
For in terms of the street rawness Pro Kid kills maddly like the track where HE KILLS SELWYN ON SELWYN'S OWN TRACK......but Pro Verb just finishes kid in the studio
I kill the beat with the live volume of tumi__Pro VERB

It's common sense that one's views will be influenced by by the people they chill. I happen to be from eKapa and wouldn't change that for anything. Therefore, I like Cape Town emcees more. Same as anyone form anywhere else will always compare their emcees to what's on the market. Frankly, I think we still take our cake and eat it.
There's no such thing as an opinion that's 100% yours. It'll merely be an extension or an adaptation of things you heard from others. It's not that there's no one smart enough to do that, you will adjust where you stand when confronted with an opinion that's opposing yours. Human nature

But I don't wana start anotha CT JHB thing. Bores the shit outta of me
-
Uncle Bexta on Yfm now?SInce when did that happen? How long he been with Yfm?

Man I'm from ZIMBABWE & I like emcees from Cape Town (Metaphysical Misfits, Konfab, POC, Dform, Godessa, 5th Floor etc too...
Doesnt mean just coz you from CPT you only feel CPT emcees right?
Tell me do you like any JHB emcees at all?
If so wo & why? If not why not?
-
Ahh, u see. I said I just prefer homegrown. Optocal ill is tight, hemphatic is tite u know I don't feel all Cpt stuff eg. Supadan.
-
feels like i'm goin round in circles with this.
it's easy to understand. i listn to emcees from as many places as i can in order to increase my knowledge and love for hiphop as mch as i can.
it's that i'm mostly influenced with the people i listn to my music with!!big up to the bmp's and hymphatic's of everyplace in SA, including j-sec.they are what make hiphop what it is. To me, and I'm being specific therefore do not take personal offence, I consider Amu, Mischief, Proverb, Prokid, Skwatta Kamp, H2O, HipHop Pantsula(is he even hiphop?), Selwyn to be wack. I can't comment on Zubz cause I haven't had the chance to listn to his trax, bt I hear, from the ppl I hang wth, that he doesn't come off in his songs.
hope that clears your murky waters

Hey Mulmens.U not into Supadan u say?Well, to clarify, they not really a full-on hip hop group. They are a hybrid type group with a mixture of styles.
I dig them though, cause I like their vibe and diverse feel.Spoke to 2 of them the other day.Cool peeps.I cant wait to check for their full album.Dudes know how to rock a live show. They doing one soon.
-
I notice no mention of Godessa anywhere in here. Its like peeps just missed them or something.EJ von Lyric, hands down one of the tightest emcee's period.

Please refer to my previous post...

[/Infa from Skwatta Kamp]
 -Is that not the dumbest ish you ever heard?..
No wait..
"50 Uh, Bentley Uh!" - THATS the dumbest shit I ever heard!

"Move your body like a snake..."
-Infa off the "Clap Song"
There was a time when I thought Infa was the "truth" in SA hip hop..Nuff sed.
Anyway looks like by the time Pro-Kid's album comes out ProVerbs will have been on the shelve long enuff for them not to be in competition afterall..
To sum it all up..The entire 4 pages of this thread was for nothing. :?
-
i think both of 'em be tight. i'd rather prefer prokid in the club killin emcees than in a studio recordin but proverb can kill it both ways. there's just something (i havent got my head around it yet) about prokid's tracks that does not pull you in as much as an ancient man, optical, or hymphatic presents, just like that golden shovel tip on 8 bars, he hit the mic so hard, every other emcee came out like background recordings. Prokid, though, is one of the illest kid on vernac.
-
still can't get over the idea that ProVerb sounds too much like Canibus. As a result, don't enjoy his songs. Wuz planning to cop that album, but been having second thots on dat
-
THIS IS STRETCH NOT DARKBLOOD...SORRY BOUT THAT
Dox...
I have a problem with people of your view...all of you just write off something before properly listening. The Zubz album is the to me the BEST HIPHOP ALBUM released in SA ever...I know thats a bold statement but damn this guy came correct lyrically and the production is too tite...the overall package is amazing!!! This album, to my view, will sell anywhere where there is a hiphop following!
His overall album quality is miles ahead of what the likes Groundworx have ever done. Not dissin the worx, I dig them but the Zubz album is too tite...
I challenge you to listen to it and if you are really an OBJECTIVE HEAD then you give me your opinion...
BACK TO THE TOPIC...
ProKid be mad ill yo, as an battle mc anyday Kid but as an overall rapper ProVerb...hes got the flow and mad creative (letter to my ex, right wrong)
PS: Dox, you say you like peepz who rap bout their surroundings & life, well Proverb did it with right wrong and on letter to my ex...and thats just about the only songs we heard from him before this album.
-
Strech, can u tell me why the elastix?

without a doubt man, I still don't have the album but im planing to get it, beat lyrics and all..
still wanna hear pro kid, my bro told me about him says he's ill
-
stretch could not have said it better, i share every view
and dox................................................. that topic you starting has been so exhausted i wont even get to it. that other cat was right, its about taste and i am feeling pro. (the verb, just to be precise)
-
Just thought I'd re-ignite this thread since PRO-KID launches tonight in Joburg & ProVerb launches in CPT tonight 8)
-
launching at the pig & swizzle seems to be a touch inauspicious if you ask me
-
PROVERB
-

That Should say enough.
-
Sounds "Outrageous" about the launch...
What happened?
-
Ive heard ProKid and i think he is quite good. OK he is a bit more than good but i want to hear ProVerb first before i judge. i heard Zubs is also good.Is there anyone who can hook me up with some mp3s from Proverb and zubs pls.

Something's wrong at Gallo. people have been waiting for Pro's album for a long time. first it was meant to be in March & now 2 months later, the lauch has taken place but the album is not available in stores.
Pro's sales will be negatively affected by this.
Dplanet do you know when the album will actually be available?
Sick & tired of waiting for this kid's album.
-
i thought it was out already,,, they had the official release party in jozi last week. i'm suprised it's not already in stores.
-
T8: There was nothing wrong with the Cpt launch, just not my style.
-
i thought it was out already,,, they had the official release party in jozi last week. i'm suprised it's not already in stores.
the album is still not available. I've searched & could not find it. i know people who have checked with many music stores in Durban & JHB to no avail.
what's wrong with Gallo?
-
i can't understand what the point of having an album release party, and hyping the artist on the radio for almost a year, then not releasing the album. seems crazy,,, must be some logic to it somewhere though.
-
Yeah, This is is always a huge, problem, experienced this with Cashless Album, it may take up to 3-4 weeks before you actually see it in stores....
Cop the album at CD Wharehouse Sandton, they got a 100 copies in stock.
easy.
-
Cover-art ?
Tracklisting?..please
-
Yeah, buds of mine on Musketeer records have lauched their album, and they info'd me that musica is only getting it in 4 weeks' time.So it seems there is somewhere a slow middle man.How can we eradicate this?Lets seriously come up with options.
-
..Just came back from a press conference in Newtown with ProKid, ProVerb, Skwatta Kamp and DJ Awadi from Senegal for a show on Saturday.. ProKid is definately not happy about the way his album is not in stores... I got the feelin' you had to be Sugasmakx to get some results.
(I saw him havin'a word with Sipho Sithole from Gallo and kinda'over heard... Sipho invite him to his office) I guess thats how you get things done over there! :?
-
Damn...I ain't sayin nuffin till I get to remix them niggas.....
-
go on Bphil,,, say something! =)
-
nu-uuuhh......
-
just dont bother about either of them pro's be on the look out for writer's block coming soon. Well known emcees who've long been established. Don't ask me who 'cos I won't tell. Brace4Ipmak! Local is Lekker!
-
Aight...so whurr the accapellas at?
-
ah yes,,, the highly secretive writer's block project,,, i have heard mention of this on many occasions recently
-
Oh yeah D, I'm still not sayin nuffin...about the given subject material that is....
-
ok then, neither am i
-
Ok then...now that we've decided to blatantly disregard subject material and post where the f we want to...where ARE those accapellas?
-
which acapellas?
-
THEM accapellas...of who blocked write sumthin, damnit anyone actually..I need material to work with and I aint gettin hurr so um since I gotta bounce to slave shift right now yall can pm or mail me and send me them ishs..I mean y'all got shit...dont u dare lie! I know yall got shits! lol
-
Hey u peeps be so secretive man.lol.Its crazy.
-
Writers Block! Writers Block!
Read into it! Writers Block!
-
Having listened to the albums of both Pro's, i dont think many people can disagree with me when I say Pro KID beats Pro Verb hands down. Pro Kid is much more versatile & original. if ever there was any debate about this their debut albums should settle the debate. Pro Kid is just in a league of his own.
-
i havnt heard PROKID yet but the way people are going on about him, im gonna try get my hands on his album. Havnt bothered to get PROVERB's album yet but il try get my hands on a copy of it as soon as time allows me (by that i mean whenever i have cash) :D
-

LOL so what you are sayng is you have absolutely NOTHING to base your opinion on which renders it absolutely useless just like mine?
Anyway in my absolutely useless opinion I see the PROkid artwork is quite sh*tty...who did that> & how did it pa** the creative heads @ Gallo? C'mon people! Havent these people ever seen a Quasimoto CD sleeve?
Interesting readin the interview we did with Pro a year ago now in retrospect here:
