after much bumpin, it's round about time to come out with a final verdict... what do u cats think? what was missing? what wasn't working?
in my opinion The Book Of Proverb is mos def one of (if not the) best solo hiphop album to ever come outta these here parts
so far overall quality wise n all...
here's what i think...
illest track:
I Have A Dream: "like Jerusalem this is'real"
bubblin under:
Back: Beat is too tiiite
honorary mention:
Kimberly Rise: woman on the hook sounds a lil too much like the chick from The Spooks... but Hey! if she can do it well.... well i guess she can... dope track
Critic:
i'm sayin, i don't mind a couple of lovey dovey hiphop tracks in an album... more than that is kind of a crowd

Co-sigh that.

I say; Beats Rhymes and Battles. : Beat is bonkers. Just so happens it's Nyambz coming through with that. Props.
bubblin under:
Back: Beat is too tiiite
I say Let's Go : Completely different flow, overall effect is actually quite retardely ridiculous. Dopeness achieved.
honorary mention:
Marry Me: The way he wrote those verses, "can't wait for this that", some clever lines there that make you say ..what?-At first then it makes sense, e.g. can't wait till we have our first fight, threaten to end it, can't wait to tell you I hate my mother in law. E.t.c. Mature content man, non of that bring you flowers everyday; who does that?
Critic:

I dispute that, it was'nt too much or too little, nice balance. Refreshing for someone to not lose their hardcore identity and still bring in that Male/Female relationship factors and still have the album holding together proper.
Thumbs up. The isht is tight.

Microphone Sweet Home, The beat is off the hook ( Nyambz good looking) and the rhymes are hella fresh. What's good about the whole album is the fact the boy crafted songs and used little profanity.
While we are on that profanity note, f*** him for doing two songs and a freestyle at Lingo's on Saturday night.
-
it's aighht- a bit rosey though... suppose that's what pushes sales!
-
Pro's verse on "Soweto Spanish" was ILL
MURDA'd AMU & nicely complimented Selwyn..
if thats what is meant by "Rosey" then I'm aight with it!
-
I am not feeling the album for some weird, the lyrics are uncreative and boring kid of way. I mean just cause tou got so many tight concepts doesn't make the cd tite. He doesn't even pull off one concept nicely and the beats are aight coz the cd sounds cohesive, and that can sometimes be a bit boring. all in all another rage dissapointment. only cats that kill it are optical ill everyone else from that team are ok mc's. Don;t get me wrong proverb can become a nice MC, he has got time on his side. There is nothing new on his cd and he does not improve on anything that might have been done before and thtas my take on things

I was ready to nullify my credit on this site, too many cheer leaders! But thank god for black boy, u have some sense my nigga, and the groupie bug has not infected u. Proverb is the most overrated 'mc' in this country. The people who review him overlook the fact that he is a carbon copy of Canibus. He's repetative and has the corniest punchlines. Actually, he reminds me of Will Smith.
-
reminds you of Will Smith, LOL..
tell me foretold, whus nice accordin to u?
-
Thanks for that rather insidious question. There are a lot of nice cats in this country.Cashless, especially now that Drystic is out,Pro Kid, Tumi, Third World Riders, Dethkowd and Beast-they've been abusin Proverb and other gimmicks for years now. Crusade, he's young and nice, Sin-it's a pity I hear he's stopped rhymin now to be a manager-pathetic really. Theres many other cats that I've rhymed wit, but some seem to be hibernatin. Pro verb is the harder version of Syfo from the kiddies show.
-
feel vindicated, by peeps who share my sentiments... had started thinking i was the only one who hated watered down content, littered with diluted lyrics... although i feel it a bit unfair & even sinister to compare him to will smith
-
shit is nice I cant front.
-
he nice like that hope he sells a 100 g's by 12 month end
-
That track of his that I hear this morning on Metro, I think its called "Woman".Who did that track for him cause its a nice sample.Very nice track indeed.
-
Okay just bumped mine...
Artwork/ Packaging 7/10
Beats 8/10 big up all who worked on this.. 8)
Conceptualization (there is a well thought out theme running thru the album) 9/10.
Coherancy (ie sequencing of Album, themes & beats etc) 7/10
Diversity (ie switching up the flow/ subject matter & beats etc to not be monotonous maybe a little contradictory to the above) 6/10..the love themes just a little overdone on this one..
Introspect (this is very NB for me when I hear an artist's debut album..its inportant to get to know the artist) 8/10 great to hear the song "Women" about Mom Dukes..
Social Relevance (ie is it representative of the current society Pro is rhyming from?) 7/10 great to hear song about Kimberly..
Mixing/Mastering/ Sound Quality 6/10 this was the biggest let down..
Grow on me factor/ Repeat play potential 6/10
Value for money ie do I feel like it was R85 well spent? 10/10
TOTAL 74% almost a first cla** pa** for the book of PRO.

Pro similar to his idol canibus?...rightly deserved!I give big ups to any mcee who has mastered the art of writing and freestyling as well. Its hard to be good at both like Pro and Cani',ask Amu and any of the skwatta kamp peeps :!: .
-
Could someone please hook me up with a mp3 of Proverb
Really appreciate it.
-
It's great to see how much love you guys have shown to The Book Of ProVerb if you want to get some MP3s or better still the whole album send me an e-mail on bexta@rage.co.za and tell me what you are about.
Outrageous is at the moment busy mixing the first singles from H2O and Optical Illusion which should hit radios with in the next 2 weeks so just know that we haven't stopped bringing the heat.
-
Bexta you KNOW what I'm about but you never gave me a free copy of the book of PRO... :x

One of the best albums i have listened to this year..this cat is HIP HOP...shit like payback, hearbeat, rhymes beats and battles are fukking hectic... MICROPHONE SWEETHOME stay on fukking repeat for hours ...nyambz killed this beat and payback is way to nice
How cats hate on something ILL as this? cat is not at all prentitious...and whats with the canibus reference i do not see it...maybe cause i do not fukk with mc spit-a-molecule-into-atoms...
this gotta be one of MY top ten drops this year not to many albums are fukking with this.
-
Hey man, u got me fiending to check out this cd now.I havent had much time to check out any new music.Just seen them all in stores but didnt really chill and take a listen to any, but I think I'mma do it sooner than later.
-
This album is really good. Concepts are good and well pulled of.
Sure, Pro is not the illest mc around but when it comes to making an album hes got it right. Flow sounds like Canibus but other than that the lyrics are'nt even close to Canibus content.
7.5/10 pushing for 8/10. really good quality for money

Just heard microphone sweet home for first time on Kamza's show.
Damn Nyambz, I bow down. One of the sweetest beats i heard in a while. First impulse was that it was prefuse 73, then made me think of Zion I....
