Damn a lot of radio cats on AG.

We need to hook up an AG radio streaming server on some Satellite Radio siht featuring personalities like:

Rush;
Eraze;
Syntactic;
TNG;
Rob One;
Palimpsest;
Lee;
Mulmens;
Black Boy

etc all of whom have radio experience so it would be a more than credible station & we could network & grow the phukk out of that thang!

another good alternative online radio is last.fm

it is run by a friend from london. check it out. it is based on streamed content from the users .... no downloading, only streaming of your own tracks in the order oder compilation. u can individually build your little radio or listen to "someoneelse's radio" ....  nice tool. i think it is one of the biggest online radio systems worldwide ...

i would immediately recommend it if there wasn't a bandwith issue in SA ... last.fm is rather adsl-friendly if u wanna offer ur files for streaming.

i am not sure, but it might be that they also offer to host your stuff ... find out! would be a good way to promote more SA stuff!

i visited the guy in london half a year ago .... will contact him and ask for more info about that!

peace!

ps: hiphop radio stream in my town (berlin, germany)

Fridays at 8pm:
Blackboard Jungle  on http:www.fritz.de   click (realplayer) livestream

and wednesdays on jamfm.de  at  6 .... deejay culture  with dj b.side

P.S I didnt hear much Hip Hop on Homegrown/brew can we get a tracklisting at least?

Hey man, My show is not exclusively hip hop, I do a four hour show five nights a week... there arent enough dedicated heads in my listenership to stomach that, so the Homebrew is very much like Eraze's "African Travela", a dedicated hour of purely South African hip hop, with the occasional bit of soul and R&B thrown in if i get good stuff. It happens once a week, Wednesdays at 10:30 if you intersted,  with interviews and the Home Brew Listening Session , where I interview a featured artist and then go through four or so tracks to get a complete picture of the artist.

New stuf coming up, Middle Fingas new album, The Drudge Dialect (when Konfab gives me the radio versions), Archetypes new stuff, Optical Ill.

Last week, had new Kallitz bootlegs, Hornswaggle, this funny white guy who was on the SL compilation last month (his productions actually dope), and Jaakie... crazy hot shit from Paarl.

Home Brew is a feature in a big show called ] THE HOT SPOT presented by ME!!!!!     [/size

Tuesday nights I do old school Hip Hop and R&B in the HomeBrews Time slot and Thursday nights I have bedroom DJs doin they thing.... soon Nast Ed and DJ Sirious will be droppin that real hip hop. The Other nights are general good night time music to help peeps through the dark hours.
Just ask DP about the rabid nature of my fans.
Through my breaking exclusives on my showe I've gotten a bunch non-mainstream hip hop tracks onto our general playlist..like 5th Floor Creation, Ancient Men Sum Day, Foreign Exchange...cant remember the name of this track now, its the new one with Yahzeerah, a slow one..... to name a few.

Hope this addresses yo P.S Tate.

"If you give it, it will play." Hey shits ok, bastard as well, the ones which will get management's back up are motherf***er, c***, f***er... variations on that theme. Also beware of clitoris... I mean think about it, try saying the word without feeling like your shouldn't  have (or giggling)..... or try not feeling like you've been involved with something naughty just by hearing it....its one of those "what was that?!" words.

yeah,,, hypen is always saying clitoris.

Title: Fave Hip Hop Radio Show
Post by: Original Syn on October 18, 2005, 01:24:09 AM
Sodomy and Masturbator are another two words which are gonna get kids (by that I mean you)  giggling and old folks gasping, so maybe reverse them or chop out the middle of the word so its still there but not quite, I don't want to lose too much of the track, the others are all fine.

I personally listen to the Essence every chance I get.
Prefer it to TBo Touch's show on Metro which I also play every so often.

Its no aggro man, I'm just amazed at the voracity of French's statement....its so definite...and true The Essence is better than Tbo...but ....actually i don't even wanna get into that.......anyway...I'm all about building the quality of Radio and specifically the representation of Hip Hop on the airwaves.
But just think about it...can you think of a single "head" here who doesn't have an allegiance to a grimy, underground community hip hop radio show like on Bush or BayFM or X's show or The Hiphocalypse... its just weird to see a cat whose coming mad hip hop....check French's other posts...and then see him jumping straight hard into support of ANY commercial radio station.

Ok so i listened to the week two snippet on the sid eof the page over here... and I can only comment on presentation style seeing as I'm unclear on the format you're programming for...and I'm sure its a case of personal taste...
Anyway, Firstly, you address a crowd when you talk..DO NOT DO that...you should be talkin to one person...you don't have an audience you have a LISTENER, peeps connect with you because you talkin to them...INDIVIDUALLY. Successful public speakers are great examples of this.. they talkin to everybody,but you feel like they only talkin to you so you sit enraptured and nodding along in agreement and identification.
TIGHTNESS is the secret to a good radio show, know hwat you gonna do b4 you do it....minimise, actually preferably, COMPLETELY eliminate dead air from your show, no gaps between the end and beginnings of songs..check to make sure...No gaps when you do a link...AS SOON AS YOUR mic opens up you should be talkin...2 seconds of dead air is enuff to lose your listener's interest.
Trim your track info to the bare essentials unless you know everybody wants every single detail, try not to sound like you reading liner notes....give info conversationally....remember these people who take the time to tune into you week in and week out ARE your HOMEYS..talk to them like you talk to your HOMEYS.

Thats my word...BTW don't take it too hard, these are all things which take practise..I've been appalled at the standard of radio presentation at my Alma Mater UCT Radio of late..i swear they lost the f***ing training manual I put my blood sweat and tears into...I'm gonna have to find the time to go back there and put those peeps thru radio presentation boot camp or sum shit.

yeah i think the most important mediums will be the small community stations the problem with most big stations is that record companies dictate what should be played,plus the factor of the dj's not being pa**ionate and even knowing what theyplaying.

Bubbly, nice energy..but yah I can tell shes a lil green.
She needs to spend less time repeating herself, only having two links doesn't give me much to work with......but she doesn't need to identify herself eevrytime she opens the mic keep it down to one of every three links.... don't spend too much time telling folks about what you do, just do it....music radio is just that..about the music..think short and sweet....memorable moments...you want succinct quotables...not shaggy dog tales...tightness is the goal.
in future, it would be helpful to me as someone who will provide info on the technical aspect of presentation, could you just package me like seven links...I'll leave the music programming to you... the DJ's job is to catalyse the musical experience...unless you ahve a HUGE personality and YOU are the focus of the show..its best to just shut up and let the music do the talking...but thats NOT a direct criticism of Mmabatho, thats general.

I've been appalled at the standard of radio presentation at my Alma Mater UCT Radio of late..i swear they lost the f***ing training manual I put my blood sweat and tears into...I'm gonna have to find the time to go back there and put those peeps thru radio presentation boot camp or sum shit.

Wish you took some time to listen to your own radio station.

Bra now you lashing out cos you think you being attacked....Now I figure you don't like alot of the presenter styles on GHFM and thats fine, BUT I suspect its more linked to the personalities of the people doing the presenting. Generally the staff here are pretty good technically, yes some peeps need some work and thats a constant job, but I'd say everybody doing prime time radio here knows how to handle their tech.
I've been disappointed by many daytime presenters on UCT Radio of late...sure NOT EVERYBODY....I cut the night timers lots of slack cos they should be polishing to come up, but daytime should be waxed to a certain extent. Its a case where the presenter will have good presence but it gets mired in a lot of technical error and unneccessary waffling... I'm sorry bra but that don't cut it for peeps who should be serious about it....and daytime SHOULD be serious about it.
I respect your right not to like how we do it on GHFM, but understand I came from where you are, I know how it works there and you don't hav to agree. I just call 'em like I see 'em

Actually bra, you know I don't have to be nice about this... you don't like the music or the personalities on GHFM thats great, I'm speaking for myself knowing what I know...Day in and day out I can AND DO step into a studio and speak to more than alot of people and keep them happy and I'm good at it. I was good when I left UCT Radio and I'm better now, I look from my standards and those are the ones that matter to me, the fact is I want to see UCT Radio maintaining a standard that gives the peeps who work there options. If anybody there wants to do it for a living they need the technical and stylistic skills to do it. And right now, it seems the vast majority are not cutting it... and I can say that cos I've put in the years.. I said in my earlier post how I'm more than happy to help anybody from UCT who wants it, cos I figure it is one of the very few places to produce the hot talent, I operate best with some competition.
You don't like what I got to say then get angry.... as long as things get better.

i'll have to agree with SYN on this one. i've never presented on radio before, and i'm deadsure i'd suck for the first 3-4 years like crazy but the standards of presentation at UCTradio coimpared to other stations are quite not there yet. I understand most people are still learning and all but it wudn't hurt to see a little progress very soon. The playlists i enjoy, but the presentation gets you dozing off when the music goes off.

the fact that peeps are still learning is not a reason really.Most capus stations are filled with mostly students,like mine,where im at.

Im not the worlds greatest but I know for damn sure you cant spend more than a year on air and you still wack. NO! then you need to get sacked so you can focus on your studies period.

As fo what is going on @UCT redio,well I cant say shit coz I dnt listen,Im in Bloem but I sure do hope it aint as bad as yall say it is.

Tell me if Im wrong, but Im kinda under the impression that in order for a province to be seen,heard or given sum recognition,sum1 from that place has to make it big in J-sec first.

I mean North West is in the lime light and I blame HHP for that,now cats and acts like Morafe and Tuks can be seen and heard saying "Im from North West too".

Now Rush and Tate,yall are saying Earstern Cape is on the rise,could it be bcoz My Man is hitting main stream now,or do I have it totally wrong?

You're high aren't you?

So what you're saying is now that My Man is allegedly ön the rise"(and let the record show that i have never seen someone with so much potential to be a one-hit wonder) everybody will be repping Eastern Cape? How about using some brain cells? Because cats like JBux, Wheza, Abantu, DJ kamma and lest we forget, the motherf***ing HIPHOCALYPSE show haven't made it big. At all.

Sensai and Rush thank you for putting my thoughts in order,now when I look back at what I said,I guess it did kinda sound like I was saying yall are trying to ride on My Mans little but not so effective wave,but no,that was not the intention.I just needed to find out a little more on your hiphop scene,since I only know as far as Hiphocalypse.

But as for you Rob one my nigger,where do you get off expressing your ,clearly, very angry emotions on me.What did I ever do to you?Now please dont get me wrong,you dont scare me.But I dont think you've got what it takes to try and piss me off.Please,now calm down and get on the same page,where education is needed,then teach!

And in my case I needed yall E.Cape cats to help me out,not to PMS all over the show like you did.While you take some time to analise the spirit in which I wrote to you in,go get a pad,and dont come back until the bleeding's stoped.

Cypha on 97.4 fm  Unam radio Windhoek city, Namz u know how we do... The show's been running since 02, went by dffrent name back then, but never the less the hiphop dosage was outta this world. eraze and Bonx had the proper platform then,cats was given the proper shit... Its from this show that xrate (yeah da cat from Beast against tha beast/Optical iil affiliate) showed most cats that freestyling is an art that is so addictive and once mastered can change the face of hiphop anywhere, I was inspired. Now that eraze and meself  ain't in Namz no more,hope cats will carry on tha tradition. We was tha only cats who played the real mzansi underground hiphop, most tracks sourced from AG. So all y'all cats who ain't being shown love in ya country, we bumped ya shit. The list ranged from Land Mynz, Sirus the virus, Trusenz, Hiphocalypse, Syc beats, Nyambz beats (b4 the hype), Optical Ill, Malik, Childakapoet, Munetsi (On heavy rotation), Mawe2, darkblood beats, Cashless society, African rulerz, Synthatic beats ,h2O etc.  @ daliq, C4 and B. Phil y'all carry on dat tradition plus y'all's participation was very instrumental.
