Now using everything about logical debate I know, i cant come to any other conclusion except that you seem to state that you cant be muslim and african without surrendering your "blackness"?
You are correct on this one. Perhaps not ALL your Blackness, but you must shed it nonetheless. Consider the ritual slaughter of a goat or cow for the ancestors- a ritual in which Afrikan beer is part and parcel, and beer which the entire family must drink, even the non-drinkers in the family must drink this, and they do. In this context, singing ode to our forefathers, it is not debauchery even if you get drunk off it, as some of our uncles are prone to doing. Can I, as a non-drinking Afrikan-Black-Muslim drink this? No, Islam forbids drinking! Is this not a shedding of my Africaness/Blackness?
The only reason you feel that way is that the West is now, and has been, encroaching on you?
You ever heard of anything called the Crusades? You think the Spanish Inquisition was only about Jews? Do you know where the Byzantine empire was established and who that land belonged to before the Romans took it?
- We all know this. Note the "
and has been" in brackets, or perhaps I should have ended that sentence with: 'now... more than ever'?
My whole history is exclusively african, I have no ties in my genetic lines except to black slaves, are you gonna make an issue of my skin tone?
You are now reducing this to a question of race. I speak not of race, but creed - belief, faith, dogma, doctrine. Now am against none, neither I am for. All I wanted to highlight was that most, if not all, require me to change what I am, to become something else. Is that not surrenderance?
But dont tell me there isnt any common ground around being black and muslim except that msulims colonised africa too, I'm black and muslim so i know exactly what its like being black and muslim.
This common ground which you champion is but the common ground of 'universal brotherhood'. Everyone has common ground. Ironic perhaps is that this is the same argument the West used to colonise me, speaking about the 'oneness' and 'humanism' of 'humanity' while they murder me for my so-called 'barbarism' and 'inhumanity'?
The simple fact is that the West as well as the Arab has colonised me, and both have left a legacy; Christianity and Islam. That does not mean that I reduce these two creeds to oppression, all it shows is the weakness of man when measured against the high Ecclesiatic and Muslim ideals - in these cases the Western and Middle Eastern man.
And theres a been a number of threads around these parts that debate the identity of people of mixed race in this country as not black, but I've got marks on my back from a police sjambok from 1990 which say different.
That we all live, and perhaps have a 500-year history, on this continent today does not make one Afrikan. What you are saying is that I'm Afrikan by 'default'? I am Afrikan because I have scars and marks from a police sjambok on my back? I find that very insulting!
