General Discussion / Party with a purpose (but what’s the purpose?)
« on: December 25, 2006, 05:46:51 AM »
Now here was a dope event I really was looking forward to. The line-up of artists for once was good and the entrance fee was anything you could use to “kit a kid for school”…pretty clever catch phrase huh? I figured at least R30 worth of stationery would do the trick? Well on the night would you believe that some person at the door tried to charge an additional R30! What the f*c*? The more I spoke to people, the more I found I wasn’t the only one who experienced this! Now I read and reread the articles in the newspaper, just to make sure of the facts. No entrance fee was ever mentioned, not even during the TV interview. So when this happened I decided; f*c* the whole thing! Some people were really great and even bought school uniforms for the kids, but even they were charged the extra fee at the door. I’m generally suspicious when it comes to any fundraising or charity events, considering the fact that the percentage of the proceeds that finally gets to the kids is so miniscule. So I’m just putting this shit out there. We need to hold people accountable!

General Discussion / EmpTy’N (my pockets)
« on: December 25, 2006, 05:39:59 AM »
So when is it gonna stop? Another real-fake hip-hop show, boasting the “biggest” names in hip-hop. HHP, Skwatta Kamp and the like. So where were the Cape Town crews on the bill for the EmpTyN summer explosion? According to Hilton Mitchell, the dude in charge, he didn’t know crews from Town?!? And the only way to see them was to have them performing (for free nogal), in “battles”. The bait was that those who went through to the finals could get a little feature on the night of the show. We shouldn’t be complaining because according to Hilton he was providing us with a platform.
Oh yeah Hilton? Well we provided you with free entertainment for the day and gave you credibility by even showing up! We can only wonder what the budget was for the week…
In truth the event wasn’t even funded by EmpTyN but by a different company. Funny (strange not funny ha ha) thing is when various groups approached EmpTyN during 2006; they were told that the company does not sponsor hip-hop events! I understand that peeps don’t have much but selling your soul for a free concert ticket and a cell phone? We need to be in charge of our own events, we don’t need people who don’t know or care about the culture, to be pocketing the money while all they provide for us is a “platform” and “exposure”. Hilton, you can keep your platform & your exposure kid, and oh yeah keep your greedy paws outta hip-hop!

We are experiencing what seems to be, the annual handing over of the venue to new managers syndrome. Its unlikely that you’ll find any Hip-hop at the club after the facelift. Anyway we continue the struggle.

The other isnt a new track at all but one they've been performing at their shows for awhile, y'all know that track called Writers Block? Damn I wish the session had been better documented.
