General Discussion / THE AG ALBUM Project
« on: October 17, 2012, 01:22:57 AM »
THE AG ALBUM 2012/2013
I am taking the discussion from the shoutbox into this thread so that we can give this "idea" a fighting chance of becoming more that some big talk that never got anywhere!

Why the album?

It's a tribute. My thinking is that the once mighty Africasgateway forums are fast becoming a ghost-town with interesting content far and thin and member numbers are dwindling like National Party politicians during floor crossing season. Allow me to misquote one-hit-album-wonder Craig Mack: "You wont be around [this time] next year"

So the idea is to preserve or give one last ode to AG before we all move on. One last collective effort.

Yes this town had its day and the writing is on the wall. Remember all the greats who roamed these AG streets? I'm talking Rushay, Nat, Rhoze, Supa, RR, Inyambo, Ootz, MrC, dP, Bafoza, Tate, Rob 1, Emile, Khoi, GodComplex, Nemesis, Native187, Khoi, TruSense(smh, nig still owes me money too but thats another story) etc
We were all like the illegitimate kids of a flawed but loving father, Milkdaddy. Shane was like the white Zuma.

So how do we do the album?

Lets open the floor for suggestions...

Here is my suggestion: Suggestion 1.
> If you have a good unreleased song you can donate it to the project. If you are a rapper and want to record a new song we got beamakers whom we ask to avail some heat for this project.
>Secondly everyone will get a chance to drop a shoutout (e.g 20seconds) which you can email then we will create the interludes off that. This is what will gel the whole project together.
>After finalizing the tracklist I will create an account on soundcloud or similar platform especially for this project and in this way the AG era will be preserved for your grandkids.

We will need an album cover (where's childPoet?)

Beat? Anyone? I started making beats again so I will contribute (http://soundcloud.com/chiefmlu)

Whether we call it album or mixtape whatever. Or are the legal implications? I dont want anyone to be sued if someone takes the album and decides to bootleg (yes it will be that dope) and there's a legal process for example.

Any takers? Thoughts? Let's do this!

General Discussion / Hiphop Supergroups
« on: February 21, 2012, 02:54:13 PM »
Yo,This is inspired by the news of the new supergroup MARS made up of CorMega, Action Bronson, Roc Marciano and Saigon.
Now, I see on youtube comments some fans would like to exchange Saigon or Roc. Now thats crazy talk to me.

but lets say your were an influential producer or record executive with pull like Prince Paul back in the day. How would you build up your supergroup?

rules; The artist must be alive and still active today. Lets say the number of artist is limited to four. If you are going to pull a members from existing crews/posse like DITC, Wu or Duck Down then just select one artist.

here is my group. untouchable or what?

1. Pharoahe Monch
2. Rapper Big Pooh
3. Kendrik Lamar
4. Killa Sin

Media / Ntale's Groove
« on: January 17, 2011, 04:28:22 PM »

African diaspora journey through music. Check it out!

Quote
The concept behind Ntale’s Groove started with one simple question: Where am I from? Over the years I have become obsessed with finding the African roots to my heritage. But like most African Americans, I can only trace my lineage back to my great grandfather. Slavery and Segregation have made make it virtually impossible for me to go back any further. Ntale’s Groove serves as my imaginary journey to Africa through music. Ntale’s Groove touches on numerous genres throughout the African Diaspora and attempts to show that groove is the glue that links black music throughout the world. This project also attempts to reconcile my own vision of Africa with its much harsher, more complicated reality.

Starting January 7th on Laid Back Radio, I will be releasing one song per week over an 11 weeks period. Each song release will be accompanied with a short story written by author Bayo Awseu. In each of the short stories Bayo abstracts Ntale into his own character who is searching for his place in the world around him.

I recorded the “Behind Ntale’s Groove Radio Show” to showcase musicians that played on the album. This show features original compositions from some of the Ntale’s Groove musicians as well as music that influenced the making of the album.

Now I understand that people shouldnt panic but too often our leaders take out intelligence for granted.
I'm shocked to see the poor and deriorating conditions at the affected places. I was even more shocked when the SA & Zim health ministers said that the situation is under control.

ya'll feeling that?
