'BACK TO THE CITY' Street Festival

On the morning of the 27th of April, a wave of urban youth will stream into downtown Newtown for the popular,
annual Back to the City festival. Disciples and converts of the hip-hop movement will celebrate the art and urban culture through a day of live performances, street art, extreme sports and exhibitions. The one-day event was launched with critical acclaim from the hip-hop media and ma**es last year, winning accolades such as
Hype magazine's event of the year. The second edition promises more historic performances, boasting a
Fiery line up of 22 mc's, 10 dj's, 8 graffiti crews and thousands of young people celebrating the birth of
South Africa's democracy. Cutting edge performers from various parts of the country will deliver hot commentary and entertainment in diverse indigenous languages while artists will be expressing their freedom in colours.

This event will take place outside RITUAL STORES at corner Bree and Henry Nxumalo streets in Newtown. Aside from being entertained, audiences will get to attend an educational summit, which will be held at City Varsity. Hosted by the British Council, the workshops offer an exchange of knowledge. Individuals working in the ma** media industry will cover topics such as publishing, distribution, recording, music videos, and independent vs. mainstream, entrepreneurship and advertising.

General Discussion / Middle Finger to Godessa for the Cock Blocking
« on: September 28, 2005, 05:15:41 PM »
Firstly these woman come in to the Artscape joint, where we been putting things together for the Hip Hop Connected gig, and try to put their boys on from Switzerland. Before that they didn't give a f*** bout what was goin on here. They never give a f*** bout what any of the other local Heads are doing unless it is viable to them or their people from their affilate camps. How many times you seen them supporting other local acts not directly connected to them?

If they busy then cool, but why then make time to put on international cat's, i think so that they can get gig's overseas in return? Seems a little selfish to me, Especially if you're playing the holier than thou routine when camera's are around

We did a promo this weekend for the Hip Hop Connected Show at Cd Wherehouse, and as a good gesture we agreed to put these cat's on for a track, they end up trying to force 5 tracks takin up our local artists time. We had to cut them off, Besides being another language they were really f***ing WHACK mother f***ing Mc's! Using some Kardinal official beat asking the crowd to holla Hey Ho! f*** OFF!! Undermining the local people again!

Then the media we organised to come thru to get some exposure for our LOCAL artists f***ed us by forcing local cat's to take a back seat so that these international cat's can get interviewed?
Without any of them giving a f*** that they where intruding, our slot was cut and we were told that the Tv crew(Hip2b2) didn't want to interview any one else as they have got what they wanted as well as them sending us an sms on Monday to tell us they were not gonna cover they Show on the 30th either!

Really not trying to hate but i really feel that they did us in bigtime! Guess us Africans had to spend Heritage day like our fore fathers getting f***ed over by European naaiers all over again. No offence to you woman doing what you do, i just feel screwing the little guy's is kinda BULLSHIT!!!!!
