General Discussion / a white boy stole my ghoema

big up milkman

i hope you did not misread my posting. i did state that

"I have no problem with cats who I consider to be real hiphop heads like milkman getting paid. I doubt they make a cent out of this website because you don´t see diesel or converse advertising here."

i know how hard it is keeping a website going and i really would not like you to think i was saying anything bad about you because i do respect your contribution since i know enough about you from credible sources. i am a friend of J4 the guy behind africanhiphop.com and i really feel for you guys because advertisers and cultural pirates will pretend to ignore you but they will turn around and use your websites to steal ideas from and use it for their own profit without acknowledging you. this is what I want people to start thinking about. maybe we should boycott companies or brands who exploit our culture and don´t give anything back...

this was all i was trying to say.

and to ebonycat,

i am flattered that you think i am shaheen. that brother is damn intelligent so having you think i was him is a great compliment. in fact, he was one of my rolemodels growning up in lavis. i am not in south africa at the moment and i have not been for about four years so i have no idea which boy of mine you are talking about. i must say one important thing though. you are a sorry a** mo-fo...sorry, i meant to say moffie. to come up in this place and diss people left right and center. these people did not ask to be dissed. i am the one saying things here not these people. do you ever want to put your feet in cape town again? i can see what kind of person you are now and i don´t like you. you are the kind of person i could never call a brother. you have knowledge but no brains. i respect all those people you said bad things about and i don´t appreciate anyone saying bad things about them.

these forums are supposed to be like a kind of community where we can come together and discuss. this community is obviously not big enough for the both of us so i propose you leave or instead, i´ll go back to my other forums on another planet where i am someone else...

heads aint ready
I can see how emotional cats get when I start to spark it. Come on. We need to get through this. No man is superior or inferior racially speaking. My only concern is that kids need to be aware of pirates stealing their culture. For some people it is pleasure. For others, they see profit! Maybe I should have given an example...then again, maybe I should give you an a**ignment. It´s too easy to spoonfeed you. Go out there and look at a mainstream magazine or look at those shop windows in your wonderful urban centers and analyse how many elements of hiphop culture you find. Hiphop in South Africa was blown up by people from the ghettos but do you see RAMONE or a JAZZMO profiting from the ubiquity of hiphop culture in mainstream South African media? Does coca cola or levi´s go to ROZZANO X or SHAMIEL X or DJ BIG DRE and thank them for their contribution to building this culture? For making them money? The answer is NO. They would use our urban heroes in their advertising campaigns like levi´s did with Black Noise a few years back but then they pay them menial modelling fees because they know these  hiphop cats need just a little money to be happy. We need to be AWAKE at all times. Would they sponsor, by this I mean really sponsor not just advertise to large amounts for people for little money, a magazine or a nationwide rap tour aimed at the upliftment of kids stuck in townships. The answer is NO. That, my dear friends is why we should not make fun of people like oopy g who at least tried to build something but could not get enough sponsors, or maybe lacked the skills to get sponsors for an urban culture magazine. That is why not too long after the collapse of that magazine, Ymagazine suddenly appeared. The people with access to the networks of priveledge in this country, hijack our subcultures and squeeze it for profit. I have no problem with cats who I consider to be real hiphop heads like milkman getting paid. I doubt they make a cent out of this website because you don´t see diesel or converse advertising here. I know this becuase my man who runs africanhiphop.com also makes nothing, in fact, it costs his thousands of euros of his own money just to keep the site going. You don´t see red bull up on that site. All you see is people going to my boy´s site and stealing info from it to profit from in their advertisng campaigns aimed at african urban youth culture.

if i said anything here that anyone takes offense to, i am truly sorry but this how i see it.

if you do an analysis of what they show, you will realise that they have never been objective in their reporting. what percentage of their coverage is dedicated to issues that promote american interests? do they really care about the rest of us?

for too long these peole have sat there behind their desks and broadcast lies. the only things they are broadcasting are the things that the people who advertise on their stations want them to broadcast. you are never going to see them come out and show the real shit about what´s happening in the world. it´s always about how many europeans or americans got killed when a plane crashed. about how many people died on  sept 11. meanwhile, people are dying in much greater numbers in africa from hunger/aids. but because it is not a media event, by this i mean, their cameras are not focussed on it, the world ignores it. it is our duty to spark a media revolution in africa. we need to take pictures. make albums. paint pictures. build websites and broadcast our images globally. for too long we have been sittng back and sucking in what they feed us.
the globalisation debate is more about the control of images than anything else. cats can´t read english in senegal but they know what a shell or coca cola logo looks like. on the cape flats and soweto cats have never been to an ice-hockey game but they rock the gear because the media images tell them it´s the thing to do.
holla back at me.

as long as it is done in the spirit of hiphop then i suppose it goes. it takes the same amount of effort not to get caught. plus, this cat is using his brain. something alot of graf cats don´t do. graf does´nt always have to look the way it looked in 999 or 1991 or 1985. cats need to progress.

I must say...
She does look rather nice and the fact that you know she has a brain makes her even more attractive. Big Up Yourself Girl.
Cape Town girls are nice but unfortuanately it is true that SOME (maybe five percent) are very much into the ´you are not good enough for me thing´. Can you blame them. Most cats down here...

Nothing wrong with that...

okay brother
I´m not claiming hiphop culture for one race. Hiphop in its truest form is practiced by cats from iceland to aeotearoa(new zealand to all you colonised minds). That is not what i said. That would be stupid and ignorant. The point is that in this country where certain people have been advantaged over others through education etc. is it fair to exploit those with less access to the networks of priveledge? It´s probably never going to be fair but we have to think about these issues. Constantly question people´s motives. We all want to live in a non racialist country but by definition this is not one.
