DarkBlood, you´re an arrogant f***! :) haven´t seen ya in a while, where ya been?my top 5 in no particular order:

Jay-Z: since reasonable doubt this dude has maintained a lyrical standard that few can keep up with. he can flow on anything from commercial Beyonce r&b shit to the wikkedest beets anyone from Primo to Timbaland to Just Blaze can throw at him... RESPECT!

Biggie: the man could tell a story lyrically, which is a skill very few emcees have. He was the king of lyrical artistry and listening to him rhyme was a pleasure. He had an ability to flow on an epic scale whether on his own stuff or as a featuring artist.

Eminem: f*** the hype this cat can FLOW! He talks the biggest load of shit lyrically but he makes it work (like on Crazy from soundbombing 2). His versatility and pure emceeing talent make him one of the tightest to ever grip a microphone!

Organized Konfusion: I don´t know who´s bright idea it was to put Pharoe and Prince into a studio but whoever that was may they be blessed! They came out when commercialism was blowing up in hip hop but they still managed to come out with my favourite hip hop cd of all time "Equinox".  When Pharoe went solo, he was tight, but nothing like that Organized flow that had me feeling them from day 1!

Common: This man raps with such pa**ion that his rhymes are almsot religious in their ability to inspire. I first heard Common on a De La Soul track off their "Stakes is High" album called "The Bizness" and he blew me away! I´ve not been dissapointed since then (way back in 1996) and so the C to the O double-M O N is definately in my top 5.

the chickenhead came off nice! Black, here´s my second verse:

I never cease to amaze with blazing hot skill/
seize the mic from BlackBull and murder-death-kill/
spill his life-blood in a battle to short curcuit the mic/
then get a pad and pen and enforce my write to life/
I will destroy you. you couldn´t work a mic if it employed you/
you´re an una**isted contract with a minor, son, I´ll void you/
you couldn´t roll in my league with king sized Rizzla/
I´ll violate you on a mic like initiated prisoners/
smack you to the back of the galaxy with my wordplay/
hit you so fast, when you hear it hearsay´ll be heardsay/
lyrically I manouvre, dodging lyrical shooters/
but you´re so slow you couldn´t RAM me with a P4 [Pentium 4] computer/
your metaphors are boring, your punch is weak like oros/
you could push me off the edge but you could never make me fall off!/

TKRocks the prizefighter, blackBull´s ´bout to fight the matador/
I´ll feed you some beef so you become a cannibal/
my fight style´s dirty, my flow´s money like pablo/
dice Bull in lamborghini´s so niggas call me diablo/
you couldn´t beat me if you posted my rhymes up/
the gateway´s a butchery so blackBull your time´s up/
bull´s eat vegetable´s but I´m carnivorous, see/
so in a battle there´s no way you´d be eating me, b/
you talking out your a**, in fact you´re talking bullshit/
you couldn´t touch me if you dismembered my armour with toolkits/
on pulpits I´ll battle you and prove you´re still no more than cattle, dude/
so get your diapers out so you don´t pee inside your pantaloons/
bovine balls are big but Bull blows blanks/
you couldn´t save yourself if you deposited in a bank!/
you´re like a sperm donor with no semen, rhyme without reason/
believe that I´ll leave you bleeding and I´ll leave you breathing/

we weren´t expecting any sort of turnout at a hip hop event held on uct campus, especially not in smuts hall (which has a reputation for being particularly boring and old fashioned). but the ma**ive turnout and the enthusiasm of the crowd and the participants was almost shocking! there were eight emcees battling (alexis, flow, maputhi, myself, next cypher, mosa, vic the quick and stretch) and a gang of people who rocked up for the open mic (among them 37mph, bexta from 104.5fm and some german dude with an ILL beatbox). the overall winner was maputhi, a femcee from uct who came off WICKED in the final against alexis. the event wasn´t really publicised much other than by word of mouth but you wouldn´t have thought that considering the sheer number of people who rocked up to spit on the open mic, to battle and just to listen. initially, there was a smallish crowd but within 45 minutes the george was PACKED with around 250 people. as soon as i can i will post the pictures that have been sent back to me and i´ll try to get hold of the video recording of the event and the Varsity paper article on the battle.

after the success of The Darkblood´s freestyle battle last week, we´re recruiting more talent for the next battle to be held at UCT in the next few weeks. anyone who thinks they´re tight and who is in the cpt area, drop a verse on this thread with some contact details (like email or phone numba) and IF YOU´RE GOOD ENOUGH i´ll get back to you about getting involved in our next battle tourney.

2nd!
