http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/05/25/lauryn-hill-to-perform-the-miseducation-of-lauryn-hill_n_867078.html

Quote

The 8th annual touring rap festival Rock The Bells announced it's lineup today, and it will be headlined by Lauryn Hill who coincidentally celebrates her 36th birthday today. Though Hill has been notoriously shy of the spotlight, she will not only be returning to the festival (she delivered one of last year's most applauded acts) but she will be performing her landmark album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in its entirety.

Ms. Lauryn Hill will be joined by several other artists who will be performing cla**ic albums in their entirety. The roster includes Nas performing Illmatic, Mos Def and Talib Kweli performing their Black Star album, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah doing Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Mobb Deep performing The Infamous, Cypress Hill doing Black Sunday, and GZA doing Liquid Swords.

Lauryn Hill and crew will be joined by artists including Erykah Badu and Immortal Technique who will not be performing live albums in full, as well as more guests that the website promises will be announced soon. The show will be hosted by RZA and will span four dates, two on each coast:

08-20 Los Angeles, CA - San Miguel Amphitheater

08-27 San Francisco, CA - Shoreline Amphitheater

09-03 New York, NY - Governor's Island

09-10 Boston, MA - TBA

General Discussion / Gauteng Toll Fees Petition
« on: February 15, 2011, 10:32:50 AM »
So my fellow Gautengers, we're about to be hit with some heavy extra costs for using the highway, and this is sure to result in the other roads being clogged up major. Plus these negroes is about to make mad dough off us too! Do you know how many cars are on the highway daily? There's no way all this dough is going to highway and other road improvement projects. Not a chance.

Anyway FF Plus has set up a petition against this. I have qualms with them being the people who set it up, but it is what it is. Check it out and tell me what you think.

There's also a place where you can calculate what your costs will be:

Sports Arena / FIBA Zone VI Qualifying tournament
« on: January 11, 2011, 04:34:26 PM »
So some of you may or may not know: the University of Pretoria is hosting the FIBA Zone VI qualifying tournament. For those still in the dark we talking basketball here. Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique are in the house. Tournament kicked off on Sunday and ends on Saturday with games each day.

I watched SA vs Moz (ladies) and SA vs Zim (men) on Sunday afternoon. Our ladies got blown out but the gents managed to keep Zim at bay, winning by 8 points in the end. I'm keen to see the men's game against Moz on Saturday, might pull through on Friday night to see them go up against Malawi.

I'll update this thread with scores daily, however for more insightul analysis of the games check out mybasketball.co.za

Fixtures are as follows:

General Discussion / I Said No!
« on: November 11, 2010, 10:16:27 AM »
So I'm sure y'all have heard or read about the Jules High School rape saga that's been reported and discussed at length lately. If you haven't, where the f*** you been?

Anyway, I'm not here to discuss the merits of the case or any of that. Theres' a lady on Twitter who, in response to the media's reporting of the case as well as the public's reaction, decided to tell her story in the hope that some sort of activism can be sparked off. It's a very sad story, well told, and there's no way you can finish reading it without feeling something. The following is an excerpt from the story:

"After a few minutes, one of his friends joined us and offered me a beer. I'd tasted alcohol before and was not opposed to it, but I was not interested in having the beer he was adamant I should have. With some back on forth regarding my not wanting it, he got up and left with it but then returned with a cider. I took it and drank it and we continued to talk and laugh under the tree. About half way through the drink I wasn't feeling good at all, dizzy and nauseous, I thought that being out in the sun and the days activities were weighing down on me so I excused myself went inside the house to use the bathroom. It was occupied, as I turned around to try and find another loo the friend, lets him R, was standing very close to me stroking my arm and told me that there was a bathroom outside by the maids quarter that I could use if I didn't want to wait. I followed him, letting him guide my faint self and my wobbly legs outside."

General Discussion / Detox single coming out?
« on: March 30, 2010, 08:42:56 AM »
Seen on hiphopdx.com:

"After months of product placement with his Beats By Dre headphone line and spots in ads by Dr. Pepper and HP,  it looks as though Dr. Dre's Detox album may be getting its first single this week.

According to the Twitter account of E! News' Michael Yo, the legendary producer will be hooking up with one of Hip Hop's premier artists for his first single: "Look for it this week New Jay Z and Dr Dre!!!" tweeted Yo.

Michael Yo later added that Interscope Records was "buzzing" about the as-of-now unnamed song. According to YouHeardThatNew.com, the track has been described as "up-tempo," and is indeed intended as Detox's first single.

More on this as it develops."

Guess we'll have to wait and see...

Media / Rage Closed Down?!?
« on: January 27, 2010, 10:45:58 AM »
Now i don't have any links and such, but I've heard from credible sources that it's gone. All of it. Outrageous records, BlackRage, etc. But no one is really talking and saying why. Apparently this happened in December 09. What puzzles me is that AG doesn't have a thread of this already. But then again ppls been saying AG is dead...

Where is Spongebob? What good is he if he can't keep us informed? Can somebody PLEASE confirm this and tell us what the deal? Checked the website and it says nothing on the topic.

General Discussion / TakeOff Magazine
« on: September 11, 2008, 06:28:31 PM »
So a new mag has hit our shores (aka the internet). Thinks its also going to printed. It can be found on www.takeoffonline.co.za

Below is the editorial note:

Thank goodness for caffeine which inspires the uncanny ability to continuously kung-fu all stressful encounters, and with the love & guidance of the Almighty, we have officially taken-off. The countless personal situations that literally threatened to disband our tiny editorial team into even tinier pieces of wanna-be ashes, are now laughing matters of an unreal past. We seem to have reached our point of Take Off!

I, therefore dedicate my very first article to totally stripping the minds of fellow young creatives (YOU), off the layers of stereotypes that we’ve chosen to hide our selves under. I dare each and every one of YOU to open your minds and emancipate your senses, while taking this walk down the lane of realisation. So please, follow me as we rediscover what it’s truly come to mean to be a young, talented African in this colourful jungle.

I invite each reader (YOU AFRICAN), to explore a paradigm much different to your norm, and please walk with me as we tackle an issue that continues to grate our lives on a daily basis. Racial & Cultural stereotyping in a democratic South Africa. ARE WE REALLY READY TO TAKE THESE OFF?

I must admit that this article is a collection of thoughts, opinions & ideas of a variety of people… it would be impossible for [me] to strip [you] without your consent & a**istance… so thanks to all my ‘interviewees’ and involuntary contributors.

As a young, black, Zulu, South African women, I am constantly faced with judgements & expectations that I feel I do not deserve. Does ‘stubborn’; ‘violent’; ‘stupid’; ‘crazy’; ‘junkie’; sound familiar? If not then maybe you could start thinking along the lines ‘good accent’; ‘nice dreads – jah lady’, ‘great sense of style, amazing business savvy’. Whew! The list is as long as a queue at Home Affairs on a Monday morning in January, but it’s what I’ve come to live with daily. Now, I ask you, my open minded reader, WHY?

Since when does being Xhosa entitle you to an over-inflated ego, even in totally unjustified circumstances? Might it be because ‘your people’ are currently in power and your lazy a** has decided to ride on the success of my country’s legends instead of acquiring your own? Or maybe I’m mistaken…. you guys are sexy, smooth talkers with rugby bodies and clever ‘to die for’ females with over average IQs and hips that inspire drool at each step. OR are you really? Like I said earlier, I’ve never been Tsonga but I take offense to all the ‘not so funny jokes’; and wsup with the trade of Tsonga women bashing. I know quite a number of sexy, A-students from Giyani… so someone please tell me: WHO HAS BEEN MAKING ALL THESE STUPID RULES? I would personally like to squash their current projects I mean, what kind of an imbecilic belief entitles you to physically harm another for being different, and unique to you. Really now, apartheid exists beyond history chapters and sadly within all races & cultures. Can anyone spell W-H-I-TE- TR-ASH- and N-IGGER?

I’m almost done ranting & rocking (see, that works too) but I have one more issue to burn. The thing is, we are all different and always will be (thank goodness for JUNGLE FEVER) and before you, start taking yourself seriously nobody else will. PLEASE TEACH ME HOW TO TREAT YOU!

Be amazing, be bold, dare to direct your own destiny, wear more colour, write a song… Dammit, just do something you’ve never done before! And please try & HANG on to your self esteem, it is after all an esteem of your own self!! And always remember that you are only as old as you feel, so I dare you now to think beyond white, fat, Afrikaans & singer. Think beyond fashion & start a trend… you are not your culture, your culture is who you are… So anyone for a bungee jump????
