So, there I was chilling browsing my friends status updates on FB, then I came across MaliQ's stating how Hype mag had a good review of his mixtape... I was like "WHAT???"... telling myself, seems me and him are AMONGST the cream of CapCity that keeps the buzz in the Hype offices buzzing on good music... quote me "amongst"!

Well, as evidently as I always tell him, our synergy is like legendary groups, Gangstar, Pete Rock and CL Smooth type. The mixtape, which belongs to a trilogy of "DREAMS" - I Have A Dream is the first installment of the dream theme trilogy. Next up is A Mic & A Dream LP. Finally, It Was All A Dream, a doccie movie and soundtrack. (link: http://maliq.bandcamp.com/album/i-have-a-dream)

Back to my topic: well, the mixtape is our second installment together (maybe it will reach its predecessors - Sleepless In Seattle/My Mind On Cap City accolade by being nominated as best mixtape in 2010) and has been reviewed overall rating 4,5/5... the best I personally ever had with production rating at 4/5.

So do yourself a favor, order your hard copies, download the mixtape, book the artist, contact the producer... do something....lol!

What do you mean sit? Do you mean having to record again or use vocals that have been already recorded?

In both cases, use Sony ACID 7. time stretch there is perfect or use FL if you need to get them mixed in a jiffy. The only thing with FL though is making sure that you blend the two perfect and your mixes should come out from being rewired if you need perfection. The process is longer in both ways...

Er...good advice, but not quite what I was looking for!

I have recorded vocals, and a beat. The beat is one mixed wav file - no separate drums, samples or anything else. I'm trying to sit the vocals in the beat, so it sounds as if it's mixed. Timing isn't a problem.

I'm using Cubase.

In that case well, it will be advisable if you use less compression/maximizing/colouring of any nature. Since you mentioned you're using Cubase, then use a lot of EQ to suite yo mix and remember to NOT COMPRESS, even if it clips.

I haven't used any compression on the master bus - but because it's going to mastering, not because of anything else. What impact would master compression have on sitting the vocal?

I've compressed individual elements and it sounds pretty good so far!

Master compression always kills off or as I put it, disturbs the pureness of a thumping ba** kick or drum. The sound will be coloured in such a way that even yo hi's wont be crystal.

Pro Tools is best for such jobs, try using the Izotope RTA in Pro Tools 7/8 Le... works like a charm!

- just my take (diff strokes for diff folks)

Nice work Trompie.

Which software are you using? I am torn between buying Acid 7 or getting Ableton Live after I have seen Ski getting busy with it.

I would go for ACID 7 cuz I use it for recording vocals on it anyway....great tool...crap with I have to make beats in it...thats just me...
