I would like to ask what u guys think the issue here is?
is it so much the downfall of new-york or more the rise of other states into the mainstream? Coz Neew York Rappers just complaining that they aren't going platinum anymore is that what they think is wrong? Coz i think its more a realization that other areas are also able to utilise the mainstream machinery. For which i think the reason that the mainstream took more to the south was because East coast flagship artists started to sound the same and limited content since 2000. And i stress that i am referring to flagship artists such as fiddy, Ja-rule (between 2000 -2003), Hov, Loso etc.
Anyways im a huge south fan but i can tell u that the marginal return on utility for southern music is dropping coz its become waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too saturated and now only credible artists are selling anything. the likes of Murphy lee going platinum aint happening. i mean soulja boy prob didn't push past 200k on his last album - that should say something - seeing is he has had some of the most commercially successful singles of 08-09
