Movie Talk / Re: Good Hair
« on: June 10, 2010, 01:46:01 AM »
This doccie is quite an eye opener.

It touches on the industry, who is profiting from "Black hair", ownership of "Black hair" products, the lucrative business of importing human hair from India, etc, etc.

Chris even goes to India to explore this phenomenon and the culture of the women there to cut all their hair and give it to a church. Ppl even chop of women's pony tails in public and run, just to sell it on the black market.

This is not just about hair styles and relaxers, it's more about exploring where this whole thing of trying to change the look of your natural hair came from, self image, myths, perceptions and so forth. They even go way back to James Brown with Al Sharpton telling the story of how James Brown told him to relax his hair before going to the white house to ask Ronald Raegan for Martin Luther King jr day to be made a public holiday.

It can drag on in the beginning with the hair salons and hair competitions but the rest is good.

Catch it if u can.

General Discussion / Re: memela on fifa world cup concert
« on: June 05, 2010, 12:27:10 PM »
I don't know when will ppl understand that the world cup is not here to bow down to mother Africa, expose the continent true culture to the world and blah di blah!! The world cup is a commercial entity that is here to make money, as they do in every country the the event is hosted in.

This is not South Africa or Africa's world cup, it's FIFA's. South Africa just agreed to stage it here, on FIFA's term and conditions. Agreements were signed between our country and FIFA, this is a business transaction. The concert is another commercial entity, and owes local artists nothing, they can have an all American line up if they want to.

Deal with it!!!

This business transaction happens to involve the state and south africa wouldnt have won the bid if there wasnt a huge support from its population. people have the right to bitch about it if this is not benefiting them.

co-f***en-sig, just because its not a South African world cup, it doesn't mean that we should let them walk all over us!!! Its like telling a woman who is in an abusive relationship, to accept that her man will repeatedly abuse her and there is nothing she can do and there is no way out of the relationship!!!

Nobody is saying u can't bitch about it. The fact is u can bitch all u want but u can't do shit about it, it's a done deal. Our government made a deal with the devil, now stop crying.

P.S. If u didn't know, FIFA rolls like the mafia, and they r the mafia.

Peep this here:  http://worldexplor.blogspot.com/2007/12/fifa-mafia.html

Geek Section / Re: Nokia N900
« on: June 01, 2010, 09:41:01 PM »
I'm saying.

I get all my e-mails, Facebook messages, twitter feeds, flickr pics etc. delivered in real time. I can use gmail chat.

I put in someone's name  surname and number and it automatically syncs their info from Facebook to my phone, so  i have their pics and email and everything. I get hourly weather updates, including humidity and perceived temperatures etc. Garmap, and everything the iPhone and all these other phones do, with BB's unlimited internet access.

I don't think I could go back to iPhone or any of these other smartphones.

Blackberry is the godallmighty of all smart phones.  word to muva

Co-siggidy.

I was initially interested in the N900, but eventually went with the new Blackberry 9700 (Bold 2) and that's the best decision I ever made. Other competing phones may have a long list of specs and features that can do god knows what, but when it comes to trully functional everyday business smartphone features, the Blackberry wins.

I know a couple of ppl at my workplace who switched from iPhones and don't regret it one bit. Even better if your friends got Blackberrys too for things like BBM, which can transfer files, pics and video for free from Blackberry to Blackberry instead of using MMS.

4. What happened to Quan - only heard him on Nas's moment of Silence and never again.

I remember reading this about Quan years ago and never heard a thing after this:
Quan was arrested in Hampton Virginia for felony a**ault, battery on a police officer, marijunana possession, and being a felon in possession of a handgun.

Police were responding to heavy odor of marijuana coming from a room at a motel. When officers search with acceptance, the cops found a loaded handgun in the refridgerator. Quan proceeded to flee the scene. Quan when arrested had $19,000 in cash, 3 handguns, cell phones and small amount of marijuana.

Then he dissed Nas:

Which MC in your opinion was killed/outshined by another MC on their own record?

(ii) and off course Jigga by Em on "Renegade".

Totally disagree.

Eminem's efforts were attempted murder at best. Jay held his own.

In context, his reaction is understandable.  Caught him off guard but it didn't really break his flow. I think he was just being cautious not to dwell on it, cause u know what can happen at these shows.

If he had stopped and pointed it out to everybody, next thing the crowd starts pushing towards her shouting at her to take it off, crowd goes into a frenzy, then a stampede........and then comes a lawsuit to the artist from some poor injured teens screaming Drake caused the whole thing.

He was professional about it and kept it moving.
