On 9th February, Heal the Hood will host the South AFrican Squad selection in Cape Town for the best crew consisting of 9 b-boys/b-girls to rep South Africa in Korea in May 2008. We hear that from so many photographers & various people, then we see them do international exhibitions and get paid for promoting what others have worked hard to create. They never put a cent back or even know the names of the dancers. Our events ploughs all the money made at the door into the hip hop community. This is how the culture and events in Cape Town has sustained itself.

Photographers are not gods and should not expect to get things for free and act as if they are doing others a service by photographing them. Its the other way around these events, event organisers, dancers, rappers, etc are who you should be thankful to. W host these events with or without media or corporate a**istance, so we actually dont care if corporates are impressed ... our concern is and will always be the HIP HOP CULTURE...

EVENT:- PROJECT BREAKING "Breaking the legacy of Apartheid" between Mitchells Plian and Khayelitsha

VENUE:- YMCA, Pisa Close, Portlands, Mitchells Plain

WHEN:- 15th December 2007, this Saturday from 10H00 - 17H00

Programme:-

10H00 - 11H00 - Introduction of the Project and its intention:-
- to become the equal and opposite force that slows and stops this racist legacy of Apartheid & colonialism
- to break the divide by physically moving people to each others communities
- to address the issue of racial tension in the western cape
- to record a theme song and music video to unite our youth/ future
- to pre-empt the racial war that is brewing in our township, already obvious by the Somalian killings
- to address Xenophobia and economic inequalities
- to encourage interaction, discussion and taking action between all peoples
- to release RAPSS Volume 2
- to have a newsletter/ newspaper
- to develop new artistic skills in the communities

11H30 - 17H00 - Graffiti Competition & Exhibition by Mak 1, Falko & ICE.

Hope that you will participate in making this an ongoing event. We would like to see this project expand to other cities and communities in the next few years. We feel that our future is in doubt if we do not move now to bring our youth together to fight collectively for the working cla**es rights in this capitalistic South Africa. We are also aware that race and religion is always used to divide the ma**es and divert attention from their real exploiters, so this project will bring youth to that understanding of the mechanisms used by media owned by Capitalism.

They charge extra at the door for the camera for those people wanting to take cameras in with them. I think it costs another R30 or so.Will give you more details once Heal the Hood supplies all info abou the days programme etc. Also, each day will be in a different community in Cape Town. We will have sound for workshops and performances if MCs are interested in getting on the MIC. Max of 2 tracks per crew depending on time available. We in communities for about 3 hours max.
