What the f*** is wrong with you South Africans? Is there no one suitable for their job. You have a Jazz fest with washed up R&B cats and d-grade fusion bar bands.
I had already given up on the "Arts Alive" line up a full month with not a single interesting artist. And now they bring Papoose- a contriving mixtape rapper.

Why did I get a place in Newtown?

totally negative vibes, bro.

It's all out there man. I'm just a transmitter...

Anyway all of this shit is a lost opportunity.
You have heavily subsidised program meaning profit is not the big thing here. You don't need big names.
You need to educate and disseminate ART.
I was lucky as a youngster I saw Sarah Jones, Steve Colman, dead prez, Saul Williams, DJ Vadim... so forth most of these I didn't even know but I was introduced.
This was when the ART and music people ran things.
Before the City saw how this was good for the city and instead of encouraging it ran out the people who made this things happen.
I know I was in meeting a few weeks ago with the people tasked with running this same event- here I reserve my comment.

Do I come off angry, f*** yeah, where's the f***ing art, guv...

Here's the list...
*Hlophe
*Zuma
*Nkola
*Mcbright
*Shaik
ect

Now I say where is the character from these men we choose to lead us and safe-guard our constitutions?
No one wants to go to jail, even me, but when shit hits the fan, if you have character you don't drag everyone into the cesspool.

i hope i dont completely derail your thread, but i think with those 2, after watching the behind the rainbow (guys get it if u can, very interesting) dvd, im convinced they are victims of circumstances, everyone else on here i do not have any information to form an a strong individual opinion.

That's what I'm talking about. Let's separate the circumstance from the character.
Guilty or not guilty or victim of circumstance?
Would a person of character almost bring a country to a civil war or lawlessness.
Or be found guilty get paroled under the guise of dying soon only to oulive even Riaan Cruywagen.

Character! Character!
I'm saying would a person of character let

would you say mbeki's got character?

You know what- he fell on his own sword. So as arrogant and as out-of-touch as he proved character.

Oy, I know it's hot outside (Jsec baby) and there is low activity on this here bored.

But let's talk about character for a second or two.
That which builds you and shapes your destiny.
In society we laud people with character and make them our leaders or esteemed members of society.

Now here is where it gets sticky for South Africa.
Character (or good) character dictates that when you're actions are harmful and are at the detriment of the collective you have to stand down.
It's good character sacrifice and all. Right?

So let's take the judge whose surname means white but wont shake the hand of a white judge who is actually black. And let's forget for a second that he was effectively found to be guilty.

How can you have grown a** men calling and steaming at Kriegler on radio and defending a man with clear questionable character?
It seems that in South Africa, as a leader or have prominence, all you need to do is scream conspiracy and clog up our justice system that take 5 years to sentence brutal rapist and then be found guilty or get off under a dark cloud...

f*** f*** f***.

I thought I was over that grimy depressed angst shit but after years of therapy those Deep Soweto boys pull me back in.
It's been a long time since any MC, let alone three (including the darker cat), has painted a picture so vivid and indelible as those cats did with their words last night.
To me too many rappers are just that rappers and not artist- but those cats, those cats are artist.
Too nice.

Wish I could expand, but got all day "training"
But any night where a DJ plays Cannibal Ox is a succes for me...

Does Ca**andra still work at Sunday Times?
Who is Barry Ronge's 'black' counterpart?
What do you think of Fred Khumalo?

1. No. City Press now.
2. Yes, the Admiral*
3. Corny

I guess I should start....

For me it's not a race thing.
Or "How can he not be patriotic" bile.

Fact one is he left the country.
Fact two it's true we live in a violent, poor "disgusting" country.
Somewhere there you make your own opinion.

I'll speak from an artistic point of view, as a writer or any artist you do your art for the sake of humanity, even if you're showing their worst side.

From the two interview he seems very exploitative, he came to the Safari to take a picture of these disgusting people and their disgusting lives, but didn't really much explore and probe the human conditions and reasons.
Which, I believe, is a true artist's job.

Of course not every movie is supposed to be a thesis on human nature. I was prepared to allow this to be just an action picture that's set in Jozi.

But by the way this kid sells his picture by painting an all grim and bleak picture is quite disappointing. No where between saying what country he feels we are, does he acknowledge our past.

For me he's chilling with his new friends and pointing at us and laughing.

Again not every movie needs to have a message and be real, but to use real and true situations to serve yourself (sell a movie) but not engage and explore those themes fully in a movie is exploitation.

Like making black American pimps, thugs and uneducated but not explaining why they are uneducated and had to resort to being thugs...

f*** the more I think about the more sad I become sad...
