people are followers.

that's the only reason 2pac is a topic of conversation as much he is. they want to either follow him, or say why he shouldn't be followed.

great thread.

i've been waiting for this.

but i think people might be put off by having to vote for the show, instead of just casually saying what album they liked the most this year.

but i hope not.

i'll be back with mine in a few.

So, is this Xhosa culture? I know a lot of mad cool Xhosa cats, but I have noticed that many of them tend to be very misogynistic and very judgemental of people who don't follow their way of doing things.

Its also not the first time I have been called a boy by someone who has been to the mountain, despite them being much younger than me. I have actually been forced to put my size tens into people's faces for just being plain disrespectful.

What is this?

no, that's just a 19 year old being a 19 year old.

i'm Xhosa and i went in, despite most people thinking i wouldn't since I AM WHITE BOY. I LIKE WHITE GIRLS AND WHITE DRUGS.

lol. joking.

anyway, i grew up in different parts of the country so i never really felt 'rooted' in any community, but when i went in, it quickly became the most profound experience i'd ever had.  it still is. just the amount of shit i discovered i was a part of; the explanations behind how certain things were; and the understanding of the men and women in Xhosa culture. how things have come along. and also being part of something that my grandfather and his father probably did; my grandmother and her mother probably knew. i received something i'll never part with there. and of course the love--this kind of debilitating and intense sense of love you feel projected towards you by your community. i've never felt anything, anything, like that. ever.

talking about creoles, it really gets to me that Swahili is held in high regard compared to other African languages even though its existence was merely for slave trade.

aint that some shit

it's because it's politically neutral. it would be the least likely to bring conflict where it to be taken as a replacement for English.

General Discussion / Re: Racism

Before I continue I want to define racism and dispel a myth. There is a myth doing the rounds that Blacks cannot be racist. It is folly to believe that. Another myth called reverse racism has appeared, There is no such thing.  Racism is racism.  You cannot be called a racist if you hate Muslims, Christians, Gay people or even stupid people. The reason for this is because all of these groupings of people are of varied races, creeds and belief systems. They are white, black coloured and asian.

starting salary in Joburg is 260K whereas in Cape Town it's 120K, for the same shit. and before you start talking about the different demands, interns get paid the same amount in both cities, about 4K per month.

Lulz at the cliche being so blindingly true.

in my experience, most of the people directly affected would agree with Mngxitama. they are just that much more adept at reading both sides.

the problem about this cat is that he takes highly developed race theory and tries to condense it into layman's terms in order to deal with economic and political issues. if you study race theory or read widely in black radical thought, incorporating theories in philology and ontology, you'll understand what he means about "unconscious white supremacy"--and you'll see how he's right, for the most part.

that, or just be poor and in constant mercy of white people.
