No I don´t know any emcees from Langa. Why are you asking? Is that because when people talk about Hip Hop in Cape Town they hardly mention Langa? I hardly go to that place myself so I don´t know at what level Hip Hop is in that part of Cape Town.

Yes I was there. The whole thing was almost a flop. It started way late than it was supposed to due to some technical problems that continued through out the show. It did not look like it was well organised.

First Case("Isaka lokuQala" as one of the two hosts refered to them) from Khayelitsha were the first to perform if I´m not mistaken. They´re nice too. Other local cats that performed where The Archetypes and 5th Floor with Paul dropping some Spaza dissing Mzekeke in some of his lines. The Swedish dudes performed way more tracks than the local cats which made the show more boring. I´m not saying they were wack but it was just a bit too much.

There was this Swedesh two men crew with a tall white dude with curly hair and short coulered looking guy. All the many tacks they performed were mad dope. Infact they were the best in that whole show.

If this wast well organised it would have been a mad dope show I´m telling you.

I can´t say who the best is but there are a lot of tight emcees in Gugs.

Hear´s a couple of those whose names I know:
T.O.P

Chrys(I´m not sure about the spellin. he did the track "Hip Hop is not a fashion show)

Paul, he´s known as P in Gugs(Member of 5th Floor)

As I´ve said, there are a lot of nice emcees in Gugs it´s just that I don´t know their names. You go and check out the scene in Gugs then you´ll hear what I´m talking about.

I don´t know if I should consider myself one of the best but here´s something from me:

Y’all still cant touch me, I’m like a virtual card
I can prove you’re not as tight as you were claiming you are
Am I making you sick? You need injections and pills
To battle me is hard as if you’re climbing slippery hills
I pull rhymes out like river water by windmills
Ciphers I open like fridge doors for a late night meal
And eat up emcees who have the guts to try and test my skill
If you can’t recite your lines, then go off the stage
Next time you come around bring visual aids
Now watch me step up as I blow with these verbal grenades
And blow up every emcee regardless of status or fame
Inhale the smell of the coffee, T-8CH is the name
The pain I bring is equivalent to a mega whips by a chain
Avoid permanent a wound, approach the 4 letters in red
I know you regret this, you should have stayed in bed
And get eaten by not me but bed lice instead

they think that all non xhosas are amankwenkwe. True, but don´t generalise your views on Xhosa people. We are not all full of bull ish. There are a lot of Xhosa poeple who respect other cultures irrespective of what they beleive in.

speaking of zulu´s /xhosas etc did you ever hear that story about the zulu, sotho and xhosa guy?

and then they were told to each take a box to deliver it somewhere and were told not to open the box, anyway so the zulu man delivers, the sotho man delivers but the xhosa man is like, he eventually opens it up because he wants to just see what´s inside it.  and then what´s inside the box is a fly and it flies away.

well, sounds better when told in Xhosa

Thanx everyone for your replies.

Come on, surely there must be a circumcised  Xhosa male on this forum and I´d love to hear him say something.

Where i´m from[Gugulethu], I´m probably one of the very few who have been able to go against this custom not for realigious but for logical reasons. Some could not avoid it because of being physically forced to do so. I myself stands a change of going through that ordeal since I still stay in the township.

I don´t know mabe somebody can answer me on this questions.

1) Is it in our culture to force poeple to beleive in what the majority things it´s right for them?

2) Why is there no room for individual choices in african cultures?

Any Xhosa men who haven´t and think will never get circumcised. How has your life been so far? How did your parents take it? Do you have Xhosa friends who got circumcised and how are they treating you?.

Man I just lost some friends through this shit. They chose not to hang with me because I´m not looking forward to doing that shit. They say they will be excommunicated from manhood if they hang with. What the f*** is that? I´m not too worried about that though.

I still do have Xhosa friends who got circumcised and they don´t have a problem with that, infact one of them told me that how you take the rules you are given during initiation is entirely on the individual.

I´m Xhosa too but I´m just worried that it might not be possible for me to marry a Xhosa woman if I don´t get circumcised.

Oh, I almost forgot to say the reason I don´t want to get circumcised.

1) I don´t believe going through extreme physical pain will turn me into a man.
2) Noboby is prepared to tell what goes on there and what you get tought so that I can know If need that kind of education or not.
3) I´m not prepared to risk my life for something which hasn´t impressed me as far as teaching people to behave like real men is concerned.

your comments will be appreciated.

Peace

« on: January 26, 2003, 09:17:00 PM »
The first Hip-hop event I have went to was at Uhuru Int. here in Cape Town I think that was 2 weeks back. As an emcee myself I thought it would be benificial for me to attend more Hip-Hop shows and get to know other emcees and see how they do their thing. I want be more involed in the culture.

You help will be greatly appreciated.
