20/20 EPISODE 119 (08/09/10)

I hope you guys are liking the new logo! Looks great, doesn't it? Special shouts to Nix and Sean for putting it together. Now we have a company car...

Anyway. The episode. I'd like to introduce you to Modenine.

Yes, I know this episode is bursting with singles from Sheek Louch, Joell Ortiz, Black Milk and a little-known duo called Outkast (brand new, suckers!) but let's talk about Modenine. He's a super-dope Nigerian MC, currently working on a project with 20/20's favourite producer, Alias. It's out this October, and if the single is anything to go by, them boys are packing some heat. We love African hip-hop here at 20/20, so it's great that we get to play this for you.

- Battle Cry - Joell Ortiz
- Lose U - Modenine and Alias
- Lookin 4 Ya (Jedi Remix) - Outkast
- Deadly Medley - Black Milk featuring Royce Da 5'9" and Elzhi
- This Is Hip-Hop - Sheek Louch featuring Joell Ortiz and Termanology

Weird. A lot of people have told me that Blu didn't come correct - onstage and off. Shame really. I would have thought someone as dope as him would have represented.

You know Coolio has a recipe book? It's f***ing weird. I once read it and made his peanut butter cookies. 20mins to make and they were banging.

And I think I need to send a shout to the guys who've been DLing every week. August was an absolute record month for 20/20, with 2142 individual downloads. Respect! ;D

20/20 EPISODE 118 (01/09/10)

Much as we'd love to say we have the new single from the Foreign Exchange, we don't - mostly because it probably hasn't been recorded yet! But they do have a new album coming out (and are now a Grammy-nominated group, trivia fans) and so in their honour we're spinning one of their finest joints: The Answer, off their genuinely timeless debut Connected. The second the new single drops, we'll be on it like a fat man on a buffet.

There's a bunch of other audio goodness on this episode too: tracks we can't wait to spin, like that new Bliss n Eso album cut, some Big Boi, some Marco Polo...oh, just download it already!

- Art House Audio - Bliss n Eso
- Scene Stealers - Skreintax
- How I Get Down (Remix) - Marco Polo featuring Skoob
- Follow Us - Big Boi featuring Vonnegut
- The Answer - The Foreign Exchange featuring Joe Scudda, Ken Starr and Oddisee

General Discussion / Sean Price Interview
« on: August 17, 2010, 08:59:27 AM »

It’s the mid 80s, and Mike Tyson is back in Brooklyn. Yet to fight Trevor Berbick and win the WBC Title, the fighter is taking some time out, kicking it with his boys outside a building in the spot where he grew up, Brownsville. He’s perched on a parked car when he’s approached by a scruffy kid.

“Yo, you gotta get off my mom’s car!” says the kid to the one of the scariest fighters on earth.

Tyson looks at him: “Come here, shorty,” he says.

“In my hood, it’s a demotion for somebody to send you to the store,” laughs Sean Price as he remembers his run-in with Tyson. “He took my Bon Ton potato chips [and] told me to go to the store for him – and I went! But he gave me $20 though. That was a lot back then…”

Solarman must be one of those students who after 10 years out of  varsity u still find him there still fighting the same "struggles"   about Sasco and student politics! Aluta! Hehe

Azanian Souljahs.....

If you look you will find out who solarman is to academic discipline.....By the way, being a scholar does not end after obtaining an undergrad degree, or after obtaining a couple of post graduate degrees....Its a lifelong expirience.. I now understand from the above statements that not every acdemic is an intellectual, and not all intellectuls are academics...But some intellectuals respect academia and some intellectuals do not respect academia as a whole...Go figure!!!!!

Aluta Continua...

So in other words, you're one of those students who after 10 years out of  varsity are still there  fighting the same "struggles" about Sasco and student politics.

You coulda just said so! 8)

Agree with RR.

By voring you legitimise the flawed system, cos you are partaking in it.

key word.

Um...guys?

People fought and bled and died so that we could have the vote. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. And if you don't vote, then you lose any and all rights to complain about the government for the next four years.

You're thick as pigshit if you don't vote. It doesn't matter if you don't think you'll make a difference. If you vote, you might. if you don't, you never will.

What's going to be interesting is the reaction from journalists and media companies in general if the two big media bills do get pa**ed.

There is so much money invested in SA media, so many different outlets. Dozens of companies, multinationals. Thousands upon thousands of journalists. And every single one will oppose the government hands down.

What happens when an unstoppable force (ANC) meets an immovable object (The SA media)?

what does this mean? what can the media do? I don't understand. obviously going on strike wont help. Am I wrong?

No...but the corporations like Avusa, Primedia and the like can hit the government with appeals, lawsuits and enough red tape to obfusticate things to the point where it becomes worthless for the ANC to proceed. I'm not saying they will, but they could.

Also, journalists don't have to go on strike. They just have to go underground. If an 'unregistered' journalist wishes to keep publishing, it'll happen. The government is deeply stupid and naive to think that, in a digital age, they can censor everything. Not even China, the world's most repressive censorship society, manages to keep a lid on everything.

I don't want to suggest that things are this dire yet. But this is what it might come to.
