General Discussion / Hallo ol' pyals
« on: September 25, 2022, 11:46:57 PM »
EASY ALL!!! 8) :D ;D

I know it's been a while since I have entered this forum. The last post I had was a
Snow tha Product video for "Your song of the day 2017" and some things have changed,
mostly for good (though Snow's music have also changed.... ::) ;D ).

I may not listen to Hip-Hop as much as I used to, though I remember bringing up Kwaito
from time to time on this forum, knowing that site and forum was based in SA. It was still
great talking about Hip-Hop, Kwaito, and other genres that I still listen to (and some I used to).

Also, I miss and remember the following who used to visit this site:

ChildAKAPoet
Miss Jones
Deacon Frost
NastyEd
TATEGuru
Jay-Lee
RearrangedReality
Ramorthetho
Fahfee
Taft1
Papa Threads
1Kind
Motho
Kwedza Hod
Angry Hand of God
SpaceVein
Watzhisneimagian (friends on Facebook)
Holstar
RobOne
Kneip'Tang
PatBOne (PatRick)
Letsogo La Pastik
Kasia
Brick

and the other usual residents of the forums.

Also, over the past years, I've been running a radio show that showcases other African Electronic
Music from Kwaito, AmaPiano (this is the first post to probably mention the subgenre), G'qom
(back when this site was active, we all called it "Durban House" or "Durban Kwaito"), and plenty
others. Below is the link:

A big ups to Milk for still keeping this page active if he's still around!

Hey AGians, I created an article on my take on this "New Age Kwaito"

After being somewhat disappointed at the amount of pages for the previous year, I'm not gonna give up! We're gonna have a fresh start despite the lack of activity on this forum!

 Gavlyn - What I do

Last week, someone at the Univ. of Wits heard my Kwaito mix and asked my permission to broadcast it on air. I gave them the ok and after requesting feedback, they want to interview me on the "Koolerbox show"!! This was the e-mail they sent on Thursday:

Yes I did, all the Kwaito-heads were praising the way you incorporated the cla**ics. I have read your article and you raised some interesting points.t.

Can you please send me your e-mail address so that I can get you in contact with the producer of the show. Perhaps arrange an phone-call interview for the next show.

Otherwise you can listen to the station on www.vowfm.co.za, the show is on Saturdays at 16H00, (UTC/GMT +2 hours). It's usually presented by DJ @Large who is the BIGGEST kwaito fan.

Thanks again for the mix :)[ /i]

Keep your eyes on this space as I hope that this interview happens today, if not next week!!! 8)

Over the past few weeks, and a little after making the Kwaito mix, I decided to make a Mid Tempo House mix using one of my favorite House genres, UK Garage. Not the UKG with the merk/slew/grime stuff that we know today (which has been dead since 2008), but the old stuff from the 90s that brought Garage from it's soulful US roots to UK dance floor anthems. I was influenced by the old Mid-Tempo House mixes that SA House DJs like Oskido, DJ Christos, Glenn Lewis and plenty of others did when they slowed US House tunes to a "mid tempo" beat, making it suitable for African audiences during the early '90s. This method not only developed Kwaito but also was the birth of South African House music!

Garage/House left the US in the '90s and went over the pond.  In the UK, they sped the beat; in South Africa, they slowed it down. This mix brings the two styles together. Enjoy!:

Politics / Mugabe vs. Jamaicans-Oh the deception!
« on: September 30, 2012, 10:30:54 PM »
I remember reading this 2 weeks ago, its a shame that 32 years ago Bob Marley, a spokesman as well as legendary Reggae singer of the Rastafarian movement went to perform in Zimbabwe to celebrate their independence, and 32 years later, Robert Mugabe disses not only Rastas, but Jamaicans as a whole.  This is on some Afro-hypocracy (Pot callin kettle black) type shit.

Jamaicans have been stereotyped as a bunches of lazy pot smoking Rastas, drunk and sex crazed partiers, Yardie gangsters (Rudebwoys), or conservative wannabes of the British (due to the colonial history, this stereotype is geared to those who look up to the British comonwelth). Where I live there is a big Caribbean community where I could see Jamaicans that would fit but then again, Mugabe would be shitting himself because some Jamaicans and Jamericans I know wouldn't fit this image.  It's sad that he can support Quadaffi (dictator budy) but label Afrodecendents as immoral. Here's the report:

Politics / Juggalos (ICP fans) considered as a Gang by the FBI?
« on: September 09, 2012, 06:16:10 PM »
Very interesting stuff here. As very few of us on here are familiar with the Insane Clown Posse, America's
Number 1 Horrocore Hip-Hop duo, here's a little summary of the speech in the video;

ICP fans (Juggalos) have now been considered a gang by the FBI (government investigation force) which has rased awareness lately. I remember just a decade ago, they were considered a gang in a few states and regions (Western Pennsylvania, Utah, Oregon, Virginia, and a few others). When someone refers to them as a gang, it doesn't seem serious at first but when I think of some of the concerts I've been to, I
start to see why people would identify them as such (even though that's not the case with some). This
video has opened alot of questions and theories. What's your opinions?:

I would try to kill the bish that put me in the slammer for all those years knowing damn well
she was lying!!!  This guy went through 6 years of being falsely accused and would've had
a shot of playing in the NFL (which might happen now). Besides the zombie mess in the news,
I followed this:
