Now I was listening to this when they were at Number 5 and was surprised to hear a song from Cape Town actually being played on that top 10.Its guys called Cover Boy & Papa Zee.Not familiar with them at all, I must be honest, unless those are their aliases and they usually go by other names.I dont know.Nevertheless, I was just surprised to hear CT on there.

« on: June 09, 2006, 12:11:16 PM »
So what are your ppl's views on this possibility?I believe that Dilla will appear, on the production duties tip, for one track at least.Album tentatively titled "Finding Forever" and Kanye's been in studio with Common as well. This is what I read. Also he's keen to get Dre in on the album as well in terms of mixing and some production, I believe.

« on: May 12, 2006, 11:39:10 AM »
So, who's using this program called Mxit? Its like a java chat program for mobile fones.Plus,u can chat to gmail users thanks to googletalk integration, MSN users, ICQ and fellow MXit users.Plus, bonus is that its cheaper than sms'ing.Around less than 1cent to send msg's and it works via GPRS.

Check the site www.mxit.co.za for more info.U can DL this to all new fones using GPRS via the wap site.Worth a check out.I find this a very useful tool, so far.Strictly limit it to minimal use cause I've seen ppl get addicted 2 it already.

Media / SAMA Debate on SAfm!
« on: May 10, 2006, 08:30:38 AM »
Did anyone happen to catch this debate or catching it right now?Its on the after 8 debate.Interesting insight into the whole thing, but also interesting views expressed from callers.I do, too, feel that SA needs another awards show of such magnitude as the SAMA's but with a different structure perhaps and looking at things from more critical perspective. Not just on popularity but the artform as well. And here I dont mean hip hop only, I'm speaking across the board.

Local movie Ongeriewe in line for best short film at Cannes
May 4, 2006:

By Zeninjor Enwemeka

What started out as a graduation film project has landed four local film-makers in France for the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.

Capetonians Robin Kleinsmidt, the director, Christopher Wessels, the cinematographer, and Keenan Arrison, the lead actor, with Tristram Atkins, the producer, have had their film, Ongeriewe, chosen as a finalist for the Cannes 2006 Best Short Film award.

The short film of about 15 minutes is one of 10 finalists from an initial pool of 3 500 short films worldwide.

It is the first South African film in 10 years to be selected for this category.

The Cannes Film Festival (May 17-28) is a highly prestigious international event that attracts film stars and filmgoers alike. This is its 59th year.

"What is so exciting is that most people struggle for years to have their work shown at a festival of this calibre. We did it on our first try," Atkins said.

Atkins has made about 22 other short films, but this is the first time the four have worked together. They are all graduates of the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance (AFDA).

Ongeriewe (discomforts) tells about the effects of drugs on relationships, paying special attention to the family unit.

The main character, Charlie (played by Keenan), is caught up in methamphetamine use and spends the whole film looking for his next hit.

The film, which is set on the Cape Flats, shows the effects of his addiction on his relationship with his mother and brother.

It has already been screened at film festivals around the world including the Golden Pigeon Festival, where it won three awards, the New York Film Festival, Aluta! Film Festival and the AFDA Film and Drama Festival.
