General Discussion / The day the world trade blew up
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:31:00 PM »
we say that they had it comin - maybe that´s true; but who can say that the 50 000 odd people who died in as a result had that shit coming too. who would be so brave as to justify the death of the innocent people who were not aware that hell was about to reign in on them in it´s most brutal perfection? have we lost all ability to feel as humans, have we become so emotionally detatched that we feel not the pain of the families of those who perished?

personally i belive we have (isn´t that a bit*h) and that their government was the major cause of the troubles - in the land of milk and honey the govt. operates on a need to know basis; if you don´t need to know then you will not be told. i´m sure they were aware of the threat posed by an iminent strike on home soil, but with the arrogance of a peac*ck they chose to ignore it * crash! down came the symbol of america´s strength!* and now i bet you they are more paranoid than norman bates on a bad acid trip. i´m sure that when a mouse in mexico sneezes they go on defcon 5 orange alert. karma has a dirty sense of humour.  whenever i start to feel for the blasted yanks, my sympathy is interrupted by the thoughts of the children of patrice lumumba who never got to know the brilliance of their father, to the people of venezuela who´s revolution was televised through the efforts of chavez and to all the natives of the americas who´s endless acres are now limited to the stories their forebearers told, and whose existence has been reserved. my thoughts wander to saiigon where the rice paddies were turned into blood swamps and all while the KKK were making tradition of lynching niggers in their own back yard. just then and only then do i believe that retribution is swift and vengeance is blind.

for me sept 11 is the day the dozens of wars america has fought on other soils, were blown back on to their own soil by the winds of time...and i do believe that we haven´t seen nothing yet!!!

General Discussion / Da Muzik Biz

contrary to popular belief the music industry is not a get rich quick scheme. some ppl become jaded and lose hope and some just get bitter and call the system bureaucratic and at times insinuate that it is fascist and being run by money mongers - which i find to be rather miseducated. as with every business the industry has to be self-sustaining and the expectant result is to make a profit.

with the first album, artits feel that they should be able to live the lavish lives they have so long wished for but things don´t work out that way. the first album including studio time, publicity (tours and launches) is a risk for the record company and even though it may be a calculated risk; it could well turn out to be a horriblely mis-calculated risk ensuring that the company loses money. from the income generated by the artist from cd sales, the record company has first dibs on the income to recoup all their expenses before even deducting their percentage - leaving the artist with very little money unless that artist has broken sales records with their initial offering. then there are the freebies for the media and radio stations which aren´t paid for by the company but the artist in many instances.

depending on how the first record was recieved, a retainer which is payable to the artist could be adjusted at the company´s discretion. some artists aren´t getting enough in retainers to sustain them and that is a damn shame; then there are personal publicists and personal stylists for those who enjoy looking like a million bucks even though their bank balances state very much to the contrary. some companies make the artists sign album-to-album deals which means that the terms are negotiable after every album released and more often than not we arrive at a situation where the retainer received by the artist is adjusted.

i believe that the problem with wannabe muso´s is the fact that many approach record companies with demo´s and aren´t even able to tell you the difference between a chord and a note. most can´t write music and thus lose out on the possibility of gaining royalties for their compositions. negotiate terms that will suit you as an artist and a later stage try and get full creative control of your music and fight to own your publishing rights for your music...

i´ve said my peace...   :-)

at times i think mc´s lose the plot when spittin´ in vernac; hell some even try to directly translate what they are tryin´ to say without regard to context and the shit gets lost in translation (literally) and then they just don´t make any sense. vernac is suited for people who have a firm  grasp of the tongue...

thank you for aknowledging the ability you so happen to have unravelled  - coincidentally, it takes something stupid or someone relatively insignificant (not unlike yourself), to ruffle my feathers. i don´t lack when it comes to writing properly but as they say," variety is the spice of life". and as for that father bit - man forget you.

HipHop doesn´t ascribe to a certain asthetic of what and how it should be, it does not prescribe exclusivity to a certain few but it does reside in our abilities to tell who we are through a collective experiences. whether you are from the platteland or from the plains in the cape, durban or even bloem for that matter; HipHop is the synergy that reshapes the contours of our present and future realities. lets learn from one another. Word.

In instances like these it would only be fitting to start from the beginning, and such shall i begin... congrats Ewok, well done and i´m sure even Garvey would say so, despite the intense rivalry you two share but it´s all in the name of HipHop.

secondly i´d like to thank the cretin who goes by the anonymous moniker for taking their time and reading my post, and in retort to his/her latest post i´d like to draw their attention to a statement that was made by them: "all i got to see was a bunch of coloureds in a club called zanadoo or something..." i might have a few things miskwoted but shit gives and that´s the jist of it. look durban does not have to defend itself from people who know nothing of its scene but who persist in saying that they know a whole lot. go to durban stay longer than a f***ing tourist would and prepare to be amazed, and as for bringing a video recorder to record the way i speak; GO AHEAD!!! i´ll do my best to entertain your inbred family and mentally-regressed friends.

the levels we stoop to in order to put bottomfeeders in their place... :-W

for those of y´all who diss durban emcees and front like they know som´in aint know non´in ´bout the durban hip hop scene, and this comin´ from a person who´s been into hip hop since the days of the DE LA SOUL IS DEAD ALBUM and the DIGITAL UNDERGROUND.

i see kats actin´ like they know, stupid fools are on som´in. when it comes to different flavas of hip hop we in durban make it hotta than the masala your mothers´ were cooking y´all while we were in the grind tellin´ our stories through the pulse of the streets. u say durban emcees are a bunch of wannabe 50´s and ja´s, then your tired a** was not in durban fool.

listen to blakfist spit it like a preacher with his dick caught in a 2dolla ho´s crack askin´ for the lord to forgive him. hear the ghetto prophecy movement tell prophecies on the fallacies emcees be basin´ their flows on and when u heard jus´-´bout-enuff listen to izimbongi as they awaken the warrior souls of uShaka´s army. see i don´t think u can handle rahim as he spits the beat box rocking y´all like 2 itchy turn tables on acid. i ain´t tryinna promote shit but till u know what u on about, u best listen real close and look east coz as surely as the sun will rise, durban emcees will foreva blow holes in your illeducated ramblings...
