Not even from Syntactic?!!

Unacceptable! Lets get this started.

What you think?
Are you a comic head? If so what you think of the latest adaptation?

Ootz rated it as hot on another thread a coulpa days back... aint seen it yet myself, been ill and busy, last flick I saw was Inside Man (damn good and not particularly Spike-ish) but I hear good things concerning X3, but i'll resevere judgement, tho as a long time comic collector and a fan of the X-men family off titiles, I know the canon fo work concerning with the X-men could make for at least 6 movies so I'm gonna try to not compare the film to the comics too much and just appreciate it for what it is.

i thought it was rather good...

noticed a few glitches in the movie though... eg the blackbird doesn't take off vertically like a helicopter when leaving the mansion, but goes thru that undaground tunnel. although maybe it was parked on the lawn getting washed!?

still think halle berry doesn't do justice to the role of storm (maybe vivica would have), kesley grammer & vinnie jones were  damn good.

funny that they decided to have larry trask as a black guy. they didn't do justice to warren worthington III (angel) in the movie... he was one of the first members of the xmen & the movie messed this up as seemingly everyone (including rogue & wolverine) joined up before him.

AM JUST PEEVED THAT MY MAN GAMBIT HASN'T BEEN IN ANY OF THE FLICKS!

The movie was tight....but I am unimpressed at how they raped the comic.

I was not a happy camper in that regard...otherwise, it was enjoyable. Watched it with a hot chick so that's always a bonus.

Vinnie Jones' personallity for Juggernaught was not good though, in fact it ruined it for me. Juggernaught is not a smart-a**. Instead, they should have used Vinnie's personallity from Gone in 60 Seconds. That character with a bit more speech suited Kane better.

I agree with you Afterbirth.....what's up with the no Cajun even up to today? The cajun was the shit bra!

spects of this Movie pissed me the f*** off

word. i can understand that there are things to like about the movie, but i just think that they butchered some aspects of the x-men story. i know of course that the comics can never be potrayed perfectly on flim...but damn, there had to be a better way to end this.

the fact that iceman was portrayed as a some boyband kid has been pissing me off since x-2. Iceman was an original xmen? and if i remember right he was a joker. meanwhile, dude in the movie look like hes gonna cry everytime he was on screen.

And that shit with Jugganaught losing his powers when he ran into the wall is BULlSHIT. Juggs was NEVER a mutant in the first place his powers are mystical, and Storm was never good at physical combat. NOT TO MENTION THE ONLY TIME XAVIER BOUGHT IT WAS IN THE EXECUTIONER SONG STORY...and he was done in by STRYFE.

you also forget to mention that the Phoenix was an entity that entered and took over Jean Grey and is not actually her. also Wolverines healing powers are not that fantastic, Jean Grey would have would have bodied him if that shit ever happened.

Brett ratner is an idiot

That not good enough for ya?

Deac

Apparently this wasn't Brett's work. He handed over to another director I think (I'll have to confirm this, didn't scope out his name in the creds but hey, I wasn't looking for it anyway, I had a hot chick next to me). Apparently Brett was working on the Superman coming up so some cat took over and man.....yeah well.....I've already placed my sentiments about the travesty!

Either way, its a tight movie though if you're not a geek like me who holds comics sacred n stuff. Maybe I chould get that Klingon Dictionary and learn something. briCK, hook a brother up man, stop hogging that jazz! The people shall share!

^^ Actually darkblood Brett Ratner whose famous for directing Rush Hour 1 & 2, took the directional reigns for the third installment of the X-men series. When this film was still in production I read that Ratner left the Superman Returns for this and took most of the staff with him. Bryan Singer who did the first two X-men films went on to direct Superman Returns (lets see how f***ed that one turns out) it was said that Ratner is a actually a comic fan, after seeing this book I'm pretty sure the guy has never come in contact with a comic book let alone read a X-men comic.

i hope i dont spoil too much for anyone - but why did they go and kill 3 main characters..!!!>?!!>!

and rogue is not nearly the rogue i love. i wanted to grow up and be rogue... not anymore!

but maybe they'll give her back her strength of character and her cocky personality in X MEN 4.

she's so teenage right now and bratty right now.

I dont care what anyone says - WOLVERINE IS GOD. The cartoon/comic wolverine just doesnt exude all this sexy alpha male stuff. Wolverine, I worship at his feet.... ahhh.... **he's just way too hot**

yeah, what happened to gambit, i've been wondering the same thing. although i dont care too much for his powers.

The movie itself is just skiet and donder, just action. And to some extent, to the detriment of nuanced plot and depth of character.
they messed up with the Jean Grey/ Phoenix thing... too many gaps...
but i like her powers....

This one was like Matrix 3, its all about the butt kicking. Everything just builds up towards action.

The mutant as 'excluded other'  story line is somewhat not the driver in this film. Ya, it revlves around the idea that one can 'cure' difference but really the movie is about what Magneto does to the bridge, Phoenix to everyone, and Wolverine's muscles.... and his jeans... or maybe that's just me...

Halle Berry pulls of Storm i think. Storm is mature and quite even tempered. She's not meant to be sexy or sa**y. She's like an older sister.  Which is why she shouldn't be butt kicking and that surprised me.

The 500 million box office question is - what are they going to do with XMEN 4...

the next generation...
will some dead mutants come back to life....?

what's the next cause....?

will they bring in the aliens....?

1) Gambit could not be justified in this series of movies as his powers are not "unique enough" to those of Cyclops (blasting sh*t with purplish/pinkish special effects) and Magnetos throwing sh*t... Gambit would have been like in that last battle where Magneto is throwing cars & Pyro is cburning them...Besides they would have had to explain his orgin + cast an appropriate actor...hmmmnnn maybe yall wanted Colin Farell?..

2) Halle Belly is NOT a good Storm for these reasons:
a) Storm is from Kenya in the comics & Halle's Oscar award winning self aint even TRY to put on some sort of "African Accent"..I woulda settled for even a contrived Adebese (from Oz) ANYTHING try something OROROE! Shiii Halle doesn't even look Kenyan...details I tell you...
b) She is too short..Storm was always a taller more elegant creature. I'm thinking at least 5"10 which Ms Berry is NOT. I'm thinking Angela Ba**et or even Iman here...

3) Juggs is not nearly mamoth enough though Vinnie played him well...Hey how come Xavier aint recognize him as his half brother?..I guess that would be too much to explain in AN HOUR AND HALF!

4) The Bobby/Kitty/ Anna Marie love triangle is stupid & a waste of time IMO when we already have a decent Logan/Scott/Jean triangle why introduce this Dawson's Creek BS?

5) On the subject of Rogue it is tricky tohave her be true to the comic as again they would have to explain the origin of her powers from the battle with Ms Marvel as well as her running away from home & joining Mystique's brotherhood of evil mutants etc + maybe intro Gambit & develop their love affair...material enough for a WHOLE other movie...

6) Colossus (sp) is GROSSLY under-utilised. I mean wouldnt he have been the  perfect natural enemy for Juggs? + How come he wasn't f*cking Kitty like he 'pose to + how come Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin has been AMERICANISED? Surely there are good enough Russian actors or at least Americans that can play Russians?..

Anyway thats enough geeking for now. The above issues aside I enjoyed the movie & even saw it twice coz I too walked out during the credits so missed the secret ending.

P.S.briCK can you see why I put this topic in the GEEK section?
P.P.S. Is that Klingon Dictionary the official Patrick Stewart Endorsed Oxford version or is it some BS abridged Websters version without the sub-dialects?

Liie I said earlier, comparing this or any of the X-men flicks to the movies are gonna leave and ugly taste in the mouth... despite the fact that the first two were really good films, but theres so much shit in the X-men lexicon that we've never covered which I would have adored to see.... so inclusding all the hot story pointsa mentioned above.. who wouldn't like to see the things concerning Genosha.. personally I liked me the cajun.
Bishop, my number one force absorbing nicca... cable and the nimrods,.... any of the Mr. Sinister storylines.... Apocalypse and the rise of Arch-Angel,.... I could go on for days.
On a film point... while I think Hugh Jackman is good, really good, the way wolverine has been constructed, in the films, is too much romantic drama leading man, he's not a nice guy in any of the comic storylines... THATS WHY WE LOVE HIM... he's a f***ing a**a**in, he has never been troubled by the killings he did as a result of the weapon X project, he was only tortured by the memories of what they did to him to make him all adamantium on the inside.
Juggernaut was never stupid in the comics, he was just excessively brutal and big, way bigger than Vinnie could ever be, we talkin The Big Show from WWE size, but don't suppose could find anybody that size who could act.
I agree with Tate on the Storm thing, bigger and colder would have been better and a pussy in hand-to-hand.
ah well sour grapes lest deal with it and move on... the comics will always be there..
Oh yes I figure what they did with Angel was fine... so what if he was an original X man... he doesn't have any powers except for wings, on The cover of The Uncanny X-men vol.1 he's shown flying into battle with magneto and the rest of the Xers and the best hes got is a lead pipe

Honestly theres simply not enough time in a feature movie to explore the possibilities of the X Men omni-verse(you know what that I'm sayin')..
Possibly a tv series would do it justice. They could intergrate the movies as big epic extensions of the series a la Smallville (but without the Dawson's Creek B.S).

On a side note what actor could play BAAAD MAAAN BISHOP?! Thinking Ving Rhames..
