Oh my word!! I first read the novel in grade 11, it was so interesting that it goes down as a the book I finished in the list amount of time. Then I watched the movies last year when I got to Wits, part 1 is cla**ic material. Part 2 equally so or even more.
The scene in part 2 where Micheale stands Godfather to his sister's kid while people are being killed on his orders satnds out for me. "Micheal Corleone, Do you denounce the devil and all his works?" "Yes I do and on the other bang!!! they shoot someone. One dissapointment for me was that in the movie the brutallity of Luca Brasi is not fully shown. In the book we told that that guy one tied to guys, chopped one with an axe and when he was done with him the other had died from shock.
Check Michael's face when his brother kneels and hugs him at their mom's funeral to apologise then Michael looks at (I forgot the name) to show that the order for his brother's death is still on, how cold.
I could go on and on, that movie made me value my family more and also made me obsessed with power, I'm one power-hungry motherf**ker.
Paraphrased qoutes:
"We'll make him an offer he can't refuse"
"One day, and that day might never come I will ask a favour from you in return and you shall repay me"
"There is but one man's destiny" (in the book, True for Michael)
"There are men out there who go around looking to kill someone, find such a man and get him to fear you" (in the book, Vito giving Michael tips on how to get a man like Luca Brasi on his side)
The whole thing of not showing emotion fascinated me like check how Michael remains impa**ive when he is Sollozo's car and the car takes a direction he did not expect which could spoil his plan to kill Sollozo. (I'm still triyng to master concealing my emotions
)
I did not finish part three coz Michael's softness irritated me.
I did Goodfellas and Scarface as well, also brilliant.
