Has anyone seen the New Zealand film Once Were Warriors?
Years ago, I've heard about the film and someone told me that
it was a good film about a f***ed up situation; Domestic Violence.
The film takes place in a Maori project and in the begining of the
film, the husband tells the wife that he lost his job before he's
about to knock boots but she gets pissed and then he goes to the
bar. Later he brings his drinking buddies to the house (the wife
gets drunk too) but when the wife refuses to cook one of the
drinking pals some eggs, the violence commences...............
Apart from the drama, there were some good tunes from the movie.
I think The Upper Hut Posse, one of the early Hip-Hop groups from NZ
were in the beginning and another song of theirs "Ragga Girl" was in the
film as well. When I searched for the soundtrack on Amazon, some of the music featured traditional Maori music but there were alot of Roots Reggae tune (NZ made) and some NZ Hip-Hop and R&B.
One song that was really popular from the movie was the Reggae song "What's the time Mr. Wolf?" by Reggae band South of Bombay.
I thought that OWW was a great film but the soundtrack was also tight.
