Optimist here. first off i do think the post is a bunch of right wing babble with grains of truth in it.Crime does not only happen to white people. Crime happens in south africa to everybody because the majority of its population has been relegated to the fringes. and the centre will continue to feel (regardless of race)until the fringes are integrated into it. we will continue to feel the wrath of Zim's devastation until we actively do something about it. we cant wait for government to suddenly realise that quiet diplomacy is not viable- where are the civil society groups in small communities saying no to Mugabe/pretoria your policy is not working for us?
as far as the country going under:
checks and balances are in effect, 6% annual growth rate in first decade of democracy, has been ID'd by US as one of the pivotal states, strides in pushing for african development and peaceful settlement of disputes (Northern Ireland), one of the major states pushing for nuclear non-proliferation- NEPAD,APRM,AU.
internally democracy has ensured all room for recourse should they have grievances. there are avenues. if you are not happy with the ANC democracy guarantees you a chance to get rid of them every four years. south africans just happen to be complacent in their democracy by refusing to lobby actively for their interests.for that to happen, there needs to be a viable and credible opposition. I have always maintained that this country's only chance of a formiddable opposition will emanate from divisions within the ANC...unless TAC beats them to it. enough people are affected by HIV/AIDS for TAC to enter the political party fold convincingly.
ultimately,a lot of people and entities have a tangible interest in this country staying afloat, in and outside of it.
