Heard 3 tracks recently. I dont think it will SELL as much as the last on did. the lead single just does not have that fire of that "Mangithi Pitch black wena uthi Afro. Pitch Black Afro!" The chorus is easy & catchy enough for the commercial market. But maybe it will sell. There is also a love track, sort of similarr to that popular RnB track that received a lot of airplay on his previous album.
+ He is without DJ Cleo, his previous beatmaker, nah HITmaker. We need commercial hip hop sucesses in this country. Someone must go Gold. Skwatta, Pro Kid, Opticall Ill, Tumi, Writers Block, konfab,Proverb, LandMynes, AMU,Tuks, Slikour, Flabba, My Man, Hidden Force, Middle Finga, Ben Sharpa, Fifth Floor. We need those commercial sucesses. It might not be my favouritre artist / your fravourite emcee, but it helps when a hip hop artist can sell widely beyond his immediate sorroundings & make a living out of this. Then hip hop can grow in this country. We need big hits. Was it not the case with Kwaito. Came out of nowhere, huge hits by Arthur,Mdu, Joe Nina,ect & got people,media,etc excited abot the genre.
Ultimately, the good will be sifted from the bad. Most good artists (commerciaally, creatively,etc) will remain when there is a growing hip hop market.
My view is that there will always be people buying commercial hip hop (Jay Z, 50 cents/Gunit,etc). It's just that right now they are buying international commercial hip hop. I would rather see Skwatta/Hidden Force selling 50 000 units than G unit selling 30 000 units in SA coz the local guys are part of a smaller & growing market. Otherwise we have no chance. Hip hop will remain an exclusive things for heads who will not buy yourf art becoz they belive they can spit better than you.
