Watsup.

I would like to drop an issue covering the leaders of various regions in the country. In each region, there are guys that are making major moves. I would like to do a page or two on ONE ARTIST/GROUP that we see as the 'King' of that area, per region.

So Western Cape would have a double page on its main artist. Same for DBN, Eastern Cape, Gauteng, North West and so on. I know we have cats here from all around, who understand their region better than I do so I need suggestions per region.

So, Who is the 'king' of:

1. PTA
2. JHB
3. DBN
4. E. Cape
5. W. Cape
6. North and NorthWest Prov
7. Freestate

E. Cape = Supremacy. It would be JBux but he apparently no longer raps.

I'd quite like to do that article. Mind if I submit some copy?

It's not about a salary, it's all about reality
Teachers teach and do the world good,
kings just rule and most are never understood."

As Dplanet will agree, the up-and-coming artists in CT right now are Konfab and Middle Finga. You had Middle Finga on your last Hype CD, so you might wanna listen to Konfab.

Too dope...

yes i'm sure Dplanet would say that Konfab and Middle Finga are hot in the Cape, I'm sure he would also agree that Jaak is burning with the same verbal inferno..... I could also see Garlic Brown holding a match in this braai cos I know very few who would be willing to go mic jousting with him.... its a tuff one for the cape gotta say...

But who ever wins out with popular support, I wouldn't mind takin abash at runnin out the copy, having some experience in that whole writing thing..... while we hash out this here question of the subject, you want portfolio? <-- 4 mizi

Hi Mizi,

* I was wondering about the title 'King'* - apart from the gendered implications which would exclude the beloved Blakrok...

I thought maybe the word King could be slightly problematic. There are so many excellent artists in the Eastern Cape region. If we submit articles would we have to justify the title?

*You see the hegemony of the internet can distort the true nature of the art on the ground*  Those who have access to media end up making the Kings* (Just a concern)

Cause Sycotiq (is that you ASD? - who was on TV!) and Abantu (who's been involved in churning out songs with Ghetto Youth Uprising etc).
These guys are really brilliant. But I wouldn't want to offend the rest of P.E. hip hop by having them labelled as 'Kings' even though they've been at it for ages.

And as for Izithunywa Zohlanga... I mean... there's so many interesting very active artists who are producing stuff...

Thanks again,
Nomalanga
