A good point though: this is going to cause a lot of friction. But you know what?  f*** it. Whoever gets the positions, this is a brilliant idea that could work really well for the magazine. It seems like it has the potential to hit a lot of markets everywhere in the country, and produce some meaningful content.

Friction indicates that something is being contested. Therefore its ok. As long as its not disrespectful or slanderous and doesn't expect a magazine to be egalitarian when its primary aim is commercial gain. But its worthwhile to have queried the issue because its elicits information about artists through debate.

Apart from that, its ok whatever the magazine does because it seems like I'm happy to part with 15 bucks anyway.

(AS FOR MIZI TALKING ABOUT WHOS THE KING??NIGGuh PLEASE  ..I THINK YOU NEED TO REPHRASE THAT.)

Rephrase it to what? As long as you understand what it means Im cool. Maybe we call it "Best Regional Rep" or something. The aim of this is to let cats step their game up. There will be alot of friction no doubt because there will be plenty of crews who have been doin it for years and will feel they are not being recognised when we decide to put a young cat in the mag. A lot of these pioneer cats are pretty quiet these days and are surviving on the street cred/respect from back in the day. These are past 'reps' and not current 'reps/kings'.

When the young cats take the position, there will be friction. I guess its a cla**ic case of THE SECOND MOUSE GETTING THE CHEESE. The old school cats made the mistakes the young cats will learn from. If the old cats are still putting in work, and doing a good job, then they need to be recognised.

My question is who is on top of things TODAY?

dat dude who happens to rap!

I believe that an artist needs "Hype" (excuse the pun) to sell, Think about it when morale was on the unsigned top 5! It got people talking and hating at the saem time. My point is no matter how whe do it, whether we use the word "king" or "Unsigned number 1" you will always get critics that will twist your words and discredit you!.

Hype mag is finally using its full potential to help expose artists! Its a good idea, although it would be hard to select a "King" in the j-sec area, We got a gang of mc's that are hot "Spaceman, Donnie Brasco, Morale, Sean Pages, Maggz, Nthabi, Episode, Reason, Landmynz, X-ray, Navio, Osmic,3rd Wave. Should I go on?

Good Luck

J-Bux raps! fact!(he told me) I just don't thing he's into making secular music like he used to no more. he been exploring other music  and his Christianity 4 a minute since he bounced from the show et al, but I wouldn't test him in the street in case he still has a stash of whip-a** in his pocket.
I'm feeling what the ECape peeps is saying about the King/TopDog thing in this region.
Psychotic - putting in mad work as always and even produces tight ish.
ASD - young, brash & talented, but with less than a year on stage, not quite kingable, son.2 summers to go
who else did y'all mention in P.E? who knows.I will say this tho' - there are TONS of serious "U-got-a-future, son" acts in Numb City (NMB-Nelson Mandela Bay) so I wont curse my show and show favouritism towards any 1.Whenever in town ask for Exp, Negro 1, Khululekani, Meta4, ASD, Z-Digi, GYU, Abantu, Cush, The Art Officials (Hishaam),Lush,Prolific Skill and many others. Most of these cats got albums and a sign saying "we will rap 4 food".
With apologies to all artists and friends on this thread, I think the man with the top single from this city this year is 100% Blaq with My Music.Considering that I heard Landmynz's 21 on AG LAST year be4 it blew THIS year, maybe that song still has time in the rest of the country. If not, he got a new one already.
Anyway, all of Numb City's finest will be on display on Dec. 6 @ P.E's Opera House @ 100% Blaq's CD Launch (4pm-10pm), so if u around, peep & learn.
I DIGRESS!

Trusenz rules! DJ Ique rules! Nuff said - from the scene I fled!

should this article actually run it would be useful to include some sort of description of the criterion used to select the "Kings".
To this end those of you nominating candidates should probably motivate your nominations (like D Planet did) otherwise it just makes you look like a groupie d*ck rider.

Okay since we in a demogratic country -- I think when its close to the time you should get like three reps from each of the provinces then let the people speak and vote for the top MC from the cities --

What would also be dope is if a track could be posted from each of the"finalist" and then take it from there -- We could have a Hype poll on AG
amiliarity breeds contempt

What would be even better would be getting regional nominees ('Kings') to to submit a new track based on the theme of them being the 'King of the province' (or whatever gender-neutral term Mizi chooses to use).

These tracks could go on the Hype CD and the readers could come to AG to vote on their favourite - this would decide the 'People's King of SA Hip Hop'.

This would also be a nice affiliate marketing promo for Hype Magazine and AG.
