Ok, my list would be :

 1. Young Jeezy
 2. Lloyd Banks ( worst CD of the year, even his fans hated him for that)
 3. Jim Jones
 4. Lil' Wayne
 5. Webstarr and that chick that sings the "Chicken Noodle Soup" song
 6. Jibbs
 7. Young  Dro

I would say Chamillionare but "Ridin dirty" was ok until it became
catchy. Some of his other stuff is ok.

but for 2007 get ready for another wave of whack MCs, the first one

:? Come on...."Ridin dirty" is about racial profiling...at a time when everyone is complaining that hiphop is dead and people are doin snap dances and rapping about bullsh!#....
Dude's track about a serious issue becomes a  worldwide hit...then all of a sudden it's not a hot track it's now wack?

That mentality is what's wrong with hiphop today.

Which other rapper in 06 had a big single that was'nt about:
a) A shorty
b) A party
c) "My money"

For once, I agree with T. "Riding Dirty" may not have been the years best track, but it was rather tasty.

Worst rapper? Dem Franchize Boyz / Jim Jones

this whole argument typifies part of what's wrong with SA hip hop.

snap is the street and club music of the dirty south. for some reason this seems to offend the middle cla** sensibilities of a lot of people in SA.

music does not always have to be about clever wordplay, or politics. 'spitting game' is as much a part of hip hop culture as political commentary.

even KRS1 acknowledges that the dirty south is staying true to the roots of hip hop (through 'cultural continuity'). he even goes so far as to say, "the torch is pa**ed to the South".

this is why kwaito is more popular than hip hop in SA - too many middle cla** sensibilities at work in Hip Hop.

D I couldn't have said it better myself. Its not all about being "nice on the mic".

Ultimately these middle cla** sensibilities foster a form of hip-hop that is divorced from the streets and the real social and economic underdogs that are neglected in society are left without a voice.

The paradox however is that Hip-Hop was built by the underdog.

That's precisely why I like Teargas coz they represent the unfiltered underdog spitting game and not catering to middle cla** sensibilities dominated primarily by a desire to be "nice on the mic".

At the end of the day to each his own but I think u've made a very pertinent point that goes to the root of the cultural identity of SA and perhaps African Hip-Hop in general.

The underdog is crucial in Hip-Hop check out this Immortal Technique piece on Why Gangsta Rap is Hip-Hop.

It re-inforces the importance of the underdog and by doing so emphasises how middle cla** sensibilities will ultimately dilute the culture and rob it of any resemblance to reality and thus its relevance.

Co-sign that.

Co-Sign that too.

Someone who would'nt call themselves a hip hop head or a Kwaito "head" said that when Kwaito started; the TKZees Arthurs and Thebes all had these "cheap" videos;..included partying, the same way the common man would given the chance...hence could relate. Coz everything in those visuals included the cheap cars, cheap beer e.t.c. POINT is you saw that and believed that these peeps lived this lifestyle.

Fast forward to 2007, BECAUSE you've seen these artists in the beginning "looking kinda broke"...you KNOW of the SALES they've had over the years. So you KNOW it's POSSIBLE that someone like Kabelo is REALLY drivin that BMW in Pantsula for life, gambling in that Casino...and it is the dream of the common man to be able to party like that...Best part, Kabelo got this money doin that Kwaito thing and YOU WATCHED HIM get it through the KWAITO thing.

Now, where can the common man identify with the rapper in S.A.? Rest of Africa? Cats usually fast foward to be "the ultimate cool dudes who know it all and other emcees are wack if you ain't down with..." right from their VERY FIRST presentation to the ma**es...That's like 95% of hip hop headz making their debut to the ma**es...be it in a "cypher" on t.v., music video, magazine spread. That's why something like that Teargas single worked, because it is POSSIBLE cats be wearing THOSE clothes they're wearing in the video. Hanging in those scenes they're hanging in. they look like they actually went through what they be rapping about and are down and out.

Same goes for Dj Sbu...YOU KNOW dude made serious cash the number of times he went plat as Mzekezeke. So when you see him step out that Hummer, have a party full of scandly dressed women at a decked out crib, it's BELIEVABLE. Common man can identify that dude HAS MADE that cream.

Dodgy statement. WE KNOW P DIDDY fits the descirption above, but nobody is respecting or even checking for his latest.

Ultimately, to not make the list of Top wack; I gather the hip hop artist has to be nice on the mic in their own right (be it spitting bout honies/beer/space/biology/the M1 road) it has to still be tight. But how the visuals are presented...it has to fit criteria I just described above.

Naa,,, there's nothing 'politically correct' about it. You perceive Young Joc (for example) as wack because he spits a simple flow. Yet he appeals to his people and sells millions.

In SA we have rappers that have technical skills but don't appeal to the streets and don't sell.

Do the math.

It's ironic that Dplanet should be complainin about the gentrification of South African point, when the majority of people in this forum, includin himself are middle cla**, and I recall him havin period pains sum other time when I expressed the very same observation. This is the very forum where Proverb and Zubz and his sidekick Nthabi are considered to be dope emcees, Tupac considered to be 'wack and corny' by the same Dplanet and Rob One. The last nice album to have come out of this country is HEADS AND TALES and we've heard snippets of brilliance, and a lot disorganization from 3WR. Either than that, it's been obscure kids from Cape Town tryin to be 'clever', and bitch-made punks from Jozi tryin to keep it hood, when non of them got any hood in them.

Oh yeah, how could I forget Young Jocc!! emjay was right! Jocc was so annoying I'd want to forget him. He was just a Young Jeezy clone but rapped really slow and lazy with a slow voice
