Young Jeezy is the truth, Nas killed Hip Hop long time ago. He killed Queens Bridge Hip Hop. Nas is a self distructive nigger, he back stabbed his people; Cormega, Mob deep and Nature. He has'nt been consistant in terms of his rap persona, his one minute a prophet and the next his mafiaso esco bar spitting glitz and telling thug stories. His done alot for Hip Hop no doubt but not every one should kick it like he does, I think his just mad that New York aint on top no more, his mad that Hip Hop is dead in New York. I love Nas but on this one f*** Nas.

Young Jeezy is like fresh air, his a touch of Scarface and his the ultimate thug inspiration like Tu pac. Not to mention the hustle in him is equivelant to the likes of Master P and Jay Z. He is a vivid potrayal of how real the streets are and how alive and kicking Hip Hop is. Hip Hop will forever be interchanging. Nas and them are just threatened that young gunners like Young Jeezy and TI are running the industry right now and New York has nothing to do with it. Nas done burried himself long time ago. New York done burried its self with all that gun talk merking shit and monotonous cocaine stories that every body is sick of. I bet you many can vouch for me on this one.

As for Cash and Zooloo you guys are the best, you open minded and thats what the game is about. f*** flowing with the grain.

Skilgannon, it turns out that u really are one of these faggot idiots I was talkin about. Where the f*** was a seven or eight years old from some small town, known for producin German cars in apartheid South Africa, gettin hip hop music from.
Ur ravin about Defjux is further proof that u a gimmicky new jack. Those dudes are obscure college drop outs, and I bet u don't even get half of wut they talkin about. U only like em cause they not on radio and popular. So fall back kid, wit ur feeble attempt at resurractin 'real' hip hop. And to quote Sarge Francis "The Underground Died A Decade Ago".

It's interesting how no-one here has, so far as I can tell, discussed the actual Nas album. I think it's rather tasty. Has anyone else heard it? Thoughts?

Exactly. "Hip-Hop is dead" seems to be on everybody's lips. Just look at this thread.

I thought the album was solid - not perfect, but loads of fun to listen to with some great moments and an awesome choice of guests (witness Game's track-stealing verse in 'Hustlers') I also liked the series of 'Where Are They Now' remixes Nas did with all the old-school rappers - now THAT is how you keep a buzz going.

It seems to me that by making an album of this quality, Nas proved hip-hop is very much alive.

Sduhla... Check out the article they do on this months HYPE magazine, under eastern cape hip-hop... I also wanted u to check out who was no 4 in an artcle that was done on the y-mag, 2004 about the 10 nicest cats in this country...

    Also, follow this link...http://www.africasgateway.com/article-print-326.html

If that doesnt prove to u that im not a gimmick, i dont know what will!!!

And im not a def-jux junkie, its just that there was a point where they had dope artists signed on their label.. its not about def-jux chap, its about the artist... Hell, an artist can be signed to bad-boy for all i care, or to DJ cleos label, what matters is what comes out their mouths, not the beats, or the label pushing them, dont get it twisted..

I want to take u seriously, just refrain from makin rushed conclusions... i can mention a lot of cats that are nice that are not on Def-jux, OR Rawkus(when it still existed), by the way, i dont think qwel is signed to def-jux, thou i stand corrected... when i hear a new cat, or some-one iv never heard b4 , my 1st comment is not "Wow, what label he/she signed to???"no, i listen to the music..

As for where i used to get music from, let me explain.. do u know ta L?? he was with database(tumi/fatbuoy[ja, i knew his music b4 he became tumi, in 96 and im from a small town that makes vwz], zweli, and him), i knew him and zweli... they both resided in jhb, and they used to steady supply me, beast and sincere(3rd world riders manager) with music...

That said, this thread is not about me, or provin that im nt a gimmick so let us not deflect from the issue, i just felt that i needed to address ur comments so we can move on...

Somewhere in the crevices some cats are making good music, i still stand by my statement..

Given its provocative title, it's no surprise that parts of Hip Hop Is Dead feel like an elegy of sorts. Nas practically came into the game looking backwards (see "Memory Lane" off Illmatic) but he seems more nostalgic than ever with tracks like "Where Are They Now?," "Carry on Tradition," "Can't Forget About You," and the title song which all focus on rap's past. This reminiscing can only fan the dim candle fans keep lit for Nas, hopeful that he'll make a full return to his former glory. But, once again, the rapper teases and falls short. As has become habit, Nas does manage to knock out a handful of excellent songs ("Can't Forget" and "Play on Playa" for example), along with a handful of awful fare (none worse than "Who Killed It," Nas's disastrous attempt to channel the spirit of '30s gangster actor Edward G. Robinson), and a few forgettable filler songs. The production is similarly uneven though Kanye West's and Will.I.Am's contributions are reliably listenable. The biggest shortcoming is that given it's title Hip Hop Is Dead aspires to be an event album but it never delivers on that promise despite the heady symbolism of former rival Jay-Z joining him on "Black Republicans." In the end, this is another good, not great album. Hip-hop isn't dead and neither is Nas but both could use a shot of life.
