I got this from "Realtalk New york BLOG"
When 50 Cent came along & blew up the mixtape scene he basically gave everyone  the courage to release their own music...Before there were boundaries that the ma**es had to follow to get their music heard...You had to press up vinyl...Do things the old fashion way, but when 50 did his thing he showed that you can jack someones beat & remix it...So now everyone thinks they can do that...

The thing that they don't realize is 50 Cent had hooks...He had song format down to a science...He knew how to make a song...Not only that his mixtapes have concepts...All the G-Unit radios have concepts...A theme...They were street albums with hooks...That's why he was successful...He backed his buzz up with hit songs...Not random freestyles, but hit songs with hooks...

What I'm trying to say is that mixtape rappers fail because they're not artists...The only difference between them & the nigga you know who is nice on your block is that they're on a mixtape...That's it...

To make a successful album as an artist alone (never mind marketing) you need a concept...And you need to stick with that concept...An album should be like a movie or a book...You're trying to paint a picture of whatever it is you're trying to paint...The listener should be able to visualize what you're trying to portray from the intro to the outro...That's where you get cla**ics from...Timeless music...

Mixtape rappers don't understand that...Countless times I'll see an amazing cover with a crazy title & think this shit is gonna be hot...Then I listen to it & the songs have nothing to do with the cover or the title...It's just a bunch of random garbage & the rappers aren't saying anything...
Not only that rappers can't even stay on topic for 1 track never mind an entire album...
That's why mixtape rappers can't make albums...Because they're not artists...They're rappers on a mixtape...Then when their shit doesn't take off they flood the market...That doesn't do shit, but make your value depreciate...

So yeah these mixtape rappers don't have the skills to make an album...

Lack of a real A&R also is a part of it...If Biggie didn't have Puff & he tried to come out today he would just be a nice mixtape rapper...Puffy taught him how to make concepts & songs...Labels want you to come to them with hits...They don't develop you anymore...That's why you have ringtone rap...The labels will always be there...Rappers are disposable so labels are in a position to take all the hit songs from these rappers that don't know any better like a revolving door...

Mixtape rappers just don't have anything to say either...So they just talk shit...To make an album you gotta have something to say...To write a book you gotta have something to say...To make a movie you gotta have something to say...To paint a portrait you gotta have something to say...To make a speech you gotta have something to say...To have a conversation you gotta have something to say...Majority of rappers on the mixtape circuit just don't have anything to say...They figure they flood the market with random garbage on other peoples beats eventually someone will sign them cuz 50 got signed...

So basically to end it:

1. They just don't know how to make an album...

2. They're not being developed...

3. They just don't have anything to say
