THE 20/20 HIP-HOP AWARDS 2008 - PART 1 (21/12/08)

http://2020.mypodcast.com/2008/12/THE_2020_HIPHOP_AWARDS_2008_PART_1_211208-169034.html

2008. Barack Obama. Congo. Banks exploding. Mumbai. COPE. And in our own little corner of the world where we rock to the kick, snare and scratch, it was pretty bananas too. As one of the craziest years in human history rolls to a close, we look back at the best hip-hop albums of the year.

Or rather, you do.

You voted, we counted. Thank you for the truly staggering number of emails we received - even the guy who voted for Guns n Roses (twice). On this episode, we count down numbers ten to six. Some surprises in store!

The final episode of the year next week(28/12/08) will give you the top five. For the moment, download this puppy here.

THE 20/20 HIP-HOP AWARDS 2008 - PART 2 (The best...and the worst!) (28/12/08)

http://2020.mypodcast.com/2008/12/THE_2020_HIPHOP_AWARDS_2008_PART_2_The_bestand_the_worst_281208-170299.html

Here we go...

The Top 5. This is it, kids. You voted for the best albums of the year, and in this final episode of the year, we go for broke.

Did Madlib hang on to number one? How about Immortal Technique? Who is the loan South African challenger? And what about this dark horse gunning for the top spot? We got hundreds of emails nominating many, many albums, but these are the ones that quite simply got it right.

All this, plus the worst albums of '08 (thanks to everyone on here for 'contributing'!). It's an episode jam-packed with goodness, and you can't afford to miss it.

Who's it going to be?

PS: 20/20 returns in '09 on 11/01. Be there.
PPS: Thanks to Rayne for providing her sultry voice for the awards!

I've noticed that it is sometimes hard to find some of the podcasts listed in this thread. Especially in itunes. e.g. I typed in "African Hip Hop" in iTunes store & I only found 2 of the podcats listed in this thread there.

Lets try to set good metadata so that our productions can be easily located in google & itunes. It will also up your hits  ;)

Here's a good read:

The thing about mam Miriam is that she was a pioneer.
She travelled out there spreading her message, never forgetting where she came from but embracing and paying respect to the different cultures she was exposed to.
My boyfriend got me a DVD of her performing in Sweden in 1966 and she pulls it off! Better than most artists do today.
She sings in Shona, French, Portuguese, Zulu and English.
With this quiet ( I'm just a girl from a village bt I have something beautiful to share, and I'm fighting this injustice at home, thanks for listening) confidence, she has those Swedes mesmerised.

Thanks for this mix Rebirth.
Looping.
