It would be great to get a breakdown of how to use compression on Kicks, Snares, Hatz, etc...and how and when to use what comp where...like the 1176, LA-2A, Waves
RComp, etc....

I know there are no set rules and I've done lots of trial and error but if there are any pros on here who produce RnB/Rap...please let us know...

Thanks

isnt it alot complicated......coz when u over compress this in turn will affect ur overall drum punch but if properly compressed this could give gud results. I feel that wit this kinda information alot of producers out there can come to understand what this device is capable of doing and damaging.

Izotop's Ozone has got some nice visuals that kinda of guides u where to put your threshold, how the signal looks before and after, etc.Try that.

I got that too....but i got a prob wit most of my beats are when i do manage to get a tight kick for say....then eq it which after whch i compress....the end result is a dull and weak punch on the kick.

Isotope Ozone does have the visuals but, the main problem i get with it is, how does everything work? I can't keep ga**ing, does anyone have a manual atleast? Don't mind reading at all.

Ive been doing my home work and I think the most important part to getting your drums to knock right is :

Picking the right sounds

pitching them right. this is really the most important. I use my ears and pitch different samples different ways.

slicing the transients correctly so the layers glue together correctly

proper panning and EQ

maybe compress the drum buss in parallel if it needs it.
