It's been a year since one of the best online stations in the UK pa**ed away to
conform to a commercial US style of broadcasting "Urban" music. Not only did it
give us the best in Hip Hop, R&B, and Reggae, but new music styles such as Drum
and Ba**, Garage, Nu-Soul, and Bhangra. 1Xtra, it's a shame that the BBC
murdered you, but you will not be forgotten.................

I also remember they got rid of the Gospel program with DJ Fitz. That also upset me
because Gospel music is the root of Soul music as well. 1Xtra had a diversity of
music styles. It really pissed me off when they got rid of DJs every year, some
of them have been with the station since it broadcasted but some were on
less than a year. When they slashed the programs last year for Tim Westwood
(who only plays US mainstream Hip-Hop and Garage), Semtex (who's show is just
like Westwood's), Trevor Nelson, and extended Mista Jam for 2 shows for every
weekday, the station really went down the toilet.

There was so much diverse music and talent. No wonder why the British government wonders why there's so many pirate stations in the UK.

I think that the only good DJs on the station are Sarah Love (Underground and UK
Hip-Hop), Bailey (Drum & Ba**), Punjabi Hit Squad (Bhangra, but they got rid of the
White dude last year), and Benji B (Nu-Soul). They don't have many good DJs and
styles like they used to.

My favorites from the past were:

Femme Fatale (Garage, she was really hot! Just like her music ;))
             J da Flex (Garage)
             Richie Vibe V (Garage)
             Flight (Drum & Ba**)
             L-Double (Drum & Ba**)
             Sapo (Drum & Ba**)
             Excalabah (Hip-Hop)
             Rodney P & Skitz (Hip-Hop)
             Aaron Ross (House)

yeah, Edu is doing the African music show for 1Xtra but when the station first
started, JJC from the 419 Squad (Nigeria/UK) hosted the show. It was once
called "Africa on your street" and lasted only for a year. Edu came 2 years later
and hosted "Destionation Africa" when the station was halfway decent.

As worst as the station gets, when I looked at the schedule's new line up, they got rid of
the Soca program and Punjabi Hit Squad (they've been moved to the BBC Asian Network).
Even though I've pictured PHS as more of an Indian outfit, Bhangra is can also be a
Breakbeat genre along with Hip-Hop. And them axing Soca, that's just showing neglect
to the Caribbean community as well. Some people just don't like Dancehall Reggae as much
because Soca has more of a party vibe that all can enjoy. For some reason, I don't
see this station lasting too long.

1Xtra makes me so irritated. I can't listen to it for more than a few minutes, unless Sarah Love love is on.

Saddly, the only good people on the station are Sarah Love and Bailey (Drum & Ba**). Sarah
Love is the only person that plays UK Hip Hop and underground US Hip Hop. Bailey is
like the only true person who plays Drum & Ba**. When the station began in 2002, I refused to
listen because I predicted that it was going to be a UK version of a US Top 40 rap station (like
Hot 97 in New York, or Hot 93.7 here in Connecticut.)

A year later, I started to listen to 1Xtra when I got into UK Garage but I also started to listen
to the Drum & Ba**, Bhangra, and Nu-Soul shows. I heard that when the station began, they
hired DJs from pirate station. I saw this as BBC's way of "giving back to the community" but
every year they got rid of the DJs. But in 2007, they really added gasoline to the fire when
not only did they axe the DJs who were devoted to the music, they also axed the diverse
programs and replaced them for commerical DJs who already have shows on BBC Radio 1
(Westwood, Trevor nelson). This has show that the station that the BBC created to appeal
to a "Black" audience has gone down the toilet. As of 2007, 1Xtra has been a joke!
