Co-sign Bessie Head. One of my favourites, damn, forgot the title, where by she writes about the Baswara or Maswara- the outcasted people of Botswana. Interesting stuff

July's people by Nadine Gordimer.

But I used to hate this book when i was forced to read it at school. Same thing with the one u on about by Bessie head. I love them now

RIP Eskia Mphahlele

Yo... anyone here into African literature?  can anyone recommend any good reads?

Hmmmm, the ones I could think of at the moment are authors such as;

   Albert Camus (Algeria/France)
   Leopold Senghor (Senegal)
   Dennis Brutus (Zimbabwe)
   Chinua Achebe (Nigeria)
   Wole Soyinka (Nigeria)
   Ousmane Sembčne (Senegal: Great film director too!)
   Thomas Mofolo (South Africa)
   Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo (Madagascar)
