I'm currently reading this book and it's shaping up to be one of the most important books I'll ever read in my life, the last one was "The Alchemist", which are read before relocating to Cape Town in one afternoon.

This book champions the individual, the creativity and the human spirit I don't mean that in a corny, "we are all winners" way, but if you often feel like everyone is working against you, and average is the norm and no one strives to win, this is the book to read...

The trick to reading, in my opinion, is to find the subject matter you like, don't read "The Secret" because everyone is, don't buy "Capitalist Nigger" because you favourite MetroFm DJ talks about it. Reading is entertainment and enlightenment, don't make it a chore, yo!

you didnt say by whom so i checked it out. AYN RAND.

she pops up everywhere in other stuff as a thinker of note. theres also quite an interesting story to do with her, some aspect of her life. if i could remember it. which i probably wont.

this is just a suggestion! SChit, do you think we can perhaps use the thread as a spontaneous book discussion, say perhaps each one of us throws in a book or two they have read and if it so turns out that another person has read the same book we might then use that as a platform to disscuss it a bit and in turn for the benefit of the people who dont read can pa** it on and thus they "read"?

just a suggestion but if its given the green light i would like us to discuss "COnversations with GOd by Neale Diamond Walsh. just finished reading the thrid and last in the series and i am burning to hear how other people reciecved anyone of them..

I READ ATLAS SHRUGGED WHEN I WAS IN GRADE 10,AND IT CHANGED MY LIFE!!!

after that i became obsessed with ayn rand and read everything I could get my hands on by her. "The Fountainhead", was awesome,even some of her non-fiction stuff.
lucky for me some of my friends were into her as well so we would have long, explosive conversations

man, her philosophy of objectivism reinforced some of the ideals i already stood for and gave them credence and expansion (even to spheres i had previously thought extreme).
this book will force you into difficult moments of introspection, awesome read.

i have read the unknown ideal too. I thot her views on state intervention is flawed.
she ia almost utopian in her beliefs which i think isn't practical anywhere especially in AFRICA.

socialist or not.. u have to admit though that her argument for unfettered markets is one of the more cogent one may come across.. the allegory used to validate her point, not only supports capitalism, but critiques human nature as well.. 4 phat lips
methinks it's also well written.. that there are many subtexts & other narratives makes it all the more interesting..
