If anyone had done their research they shouldn't have been disappointed. It's a Jazz Festival. He's performing with the The Robert Glasper Experiment - to expect him to just rap his old tracks is a bit silly.

Travellin' Man came out in 1998. It's 2009. Surely you don't just want to hear artists performing their old joints? We usually get washed-out artists coming to SA to perform their golden oldies. It makes a nice change to see some brand new shit.

To me his show was pure hip hop taken to another level. Mos Def's been rapping for 12 years. Wouldn't it be boring if he just kept spitting 2 or 3 x 16 bars on every track?

i totally agree my mans

Yeah it was a jazz fest! Mad Dope

He did a free Hip Hop show in Mitchells Plain yesterday, Travellin Man, Respiration, Mathematics, Fortified Live all that shit

It was great seeing the 2 contrasts of him, both singing and rapping, he holds it down both ways! Plus that band are dope as f***!

The Robert Glasper experiment killed it the night before, opened with Jay dee's "f*** the Police"! Too dope! that drummer Chris Dave is on some other!

Zap Mama was also crazy ill, she did a dope tribute to Miriam Makeba! Vocal improv with the drummer and guitarist, fresh!

Maceo Parker killed me 20 mins before the mos shit 1 or 2 joints felt like i was at some James Brown concert! too ill, that cat is so fluid and relaxed on that sax!

I'm not too enthused about the price too.. BUt i rate its okay and i'm happy to pay it too catch Mos Def Live.

People blow that amount on drinks and other silly ish regulary. We've been spoiled into expecting to receive things for free or cheap.

Anyone b$#ching about that amount isnt really being logical and probably isnt a Mos Def Fan.

That homie is performing with a band, its not just an emcee and a dj. How much should they be paid? they need accomodation and all sorts of other expenses.

With all the complaining thats going its likely that they may drop the price. people will get their wish, pay a hundred bucks and spend R500 entertaining a broad after the show.

are you implying Mos Def > a broad :D?

@D are you being serious when you say by doing research people might like music they otherwise figured was wack?

if you ask me, this Mos thing comes down to one thing. it has nothing to with him being 'next' and sa heads being a**backwards, its got to do with whether or not you think Mos can sing, whether or not you enjoy his music when hes singing. simple as that. its a cop out to a**ume that the only reason people might not like what he does is because theyre not 'ready'.

Come on Nyambo,

There's no justifying that price at all. Band or no band. The show @ Moretele Park in Mamelodi has got 20 or so top local artists like Bra Hugh and all of them, along with their bands and they don't charge that much.

How dare u say we aint Mos Def fans cos we're protesting the price. LOL !!!
