Not trying to be extra defensive. Seems like i always come across like that, but I'm just stating my opinion. Love being part of a debate. All I'm saying is, i think there are a lot of original cats in SA and most of them are in fact on the radio. Bo Zubz and them. Like That Ameen cat. I think he's a breath of fresh air.Actually i rarely hear the SA Auto-tuners on radio, except for a couple.

I've had my say.Let's hear what other think.

As an up and coming beatmaker - i believe producers are influenced by the demand for the market as much as their own creativity - when i got into beat making i was influenced by the sounds i listened to and tried to emulate them - still working on finding my own sound but to me it starts from little things like making ur own distinct sounds and drum patterns...

however i feel a lot of times the emcees also f*** shit up by coming to you asking for a song that sounds like 50 cent or sounds like 9th wonder - what the f*** is we supposed to do then? but i can honestly say that people are trying their hardest to be original - like when i make a beat and i realise its sounding familiar i delete it

sidenote: i cant stand it when emcees dont wanna buy a beat which is cool but then wanna sell the music they made off ur shit without any remuneration!

Yeah Panic. I forgot about Izithunywa Zohlanga. Most original in my view. But it's too traditional . I digs it but not my everyday kind of music. Pro Kid is on the same tip. Kwaai Hop beats and kasie lyricism.
POC might have done it but it was with BOOM BAP, Jozi is doing it with crunk. Different. I'm not saying Jozi is teh answer. but they are part of it.

I guess we saw how much we love BOOM BAP as the essence of  hop (I'm talking most people here) with OB4CL2. It's back to Basics.

Let's remain MC's people. All this i'm a musician shit is what's wrong with music nowadays. We all try too much to be the next thing and are not even really creating anything unique.

Stick with the Basics. You shall Prosper.

2nd that...nuff probs for that.
we oughtta be mcees nd stick to that....yeah try what u wish but rememebr that u is an mcee, not cla**ifying ourselves by the country we come from.

remember that u is producing hip hop not sum next form of music......

it is not us africans who cormecialised this movement, the americans did nd we just followin suit, it will always be difficult for you as a producer to be too innovative to a sense that what u did shocks people.(not saying it cant be dun)
yea try improving what u do but take note that what u on about is a genre(hip hop) not jazz, so much that what u did sounds tooo jazzy.

these are the reasons i hate listening to radio stations, cos producers confuse DJ's as for what the music(genres) is. u find that a same track gets played on a RNB playlist then later in the same day they have the same track playin on a hip hop/rap playlist.

as these days most ya'll producers is too on to sampling, remember the basics that is what ME as an mcee is saying, u go rite on and sample any genre u wanna but remember that which is u on about shud be HIP HOP.

the greatest rides u'd ever experince is upon the DEATH STAR....

Hip-hop draws very strongly from Jazz, Blues, R'n'B, Funk, Soul, Electro, it is an Amalgamation of sorts, don't understand your beef with past genres right now, hip-hop resurrects the dead in a sense, breathing back life into these old records, so what you sayin'?

ya'll producers best to keep to hip hop not makin a hip hop to jazz or any other genre.

NB## we all have a diff taste to what hip hop shud sound like and that is being determined more by what we like(jazz, raggah nd wateva)
but they are all genres in they own sense.

all am sayin is: if u gonna make a beat and u want it to be cla**ified as hip hop stick to the basics of hip hop!!

What about trip-hop and all the turntable jazz stuff? Clearly you must see the hip-hop influence? From recording techniques, onward to the vibe or feel of it? Isn't this a variation of hip-hop of sorts? Or the Miami Ba** stuff from Florida in the eighties, with speed up tempos, and the whole call and response thing? They weren't rapping the same way they were up top, but yet and still, or Go-Go music from the Baltimore, D.C. area, it's all music, but all aforementioned styles, come from different interpretations and variations of the same thing with different influences and motives or not?
