In an attempt to contribute to this thread effectively I'm'a attempt to be technical with mine & define isht:

Whats your criteria for rating an emcee?
I would think the following are logical criterion:

Subject Matter (What is being talked about, importance, pertinance, relevance etc);
Literary Techniques aka Wordplay (Vocab/ Wit/ Smilies/ Metaphors/allusion)
Semantics aka Flow(how they "ride the beat";breath control, bar spacing & timing etc)
Diction (Pronounciation/ Articulation etc..a mu'fugger gotta be clear with his ya know, cant be mumbling on a track & mispronouncin isht to make it rhyme?)
Can we accept these as the criterion?
If yes then apply them to a list of SA emcees & hence come up with your current top 5.
