I think there is a place for all formats. These need to co-exist.
I use twitter for my personal account and I am very selective in terms of who I follow. Once you have a nice list of folks that YOU find interesting, then you will find just how powerful twitter is.
I was thinking about how things have changed. I have seen many revolutions in the internet over almost 2 decades now. A few years ago folks couldn't think about myspace falling off, but look at it now, nobody could see FB coming from behind. If someone tells you now that something else will come along in 2012 and make FB redundant or irrelevant many will laugh. It could happen you know.
I think artists should take advantage / use all channels. When I look at the logs of AG, I've noticed a trend, which is, the ma**ive increase in mobile user agents hitting this site. Which tells me we've gotta do much better than what we doing now. And the change is coming at all of us too fast. I know folks who only use mobile apps. That's it. No browsing off a computer. While twitter might be huge, there are other social networking sites in other parts of the world that are ma**ive too, but in other languages for example. People exist within those containers and entire livings and scenes and communities are living in them.
We are moving into a space where, once there was a ma**ive long tail that was feeding the head. This still exists, but an interesting thing is happening, the head and the tail are merging, and that could break the backbone of the internet.
Makes sense? or not, not sure, I'm off to gym to clear my head.
