The studio sounds like it’s bustling with activity; you can hear people taking calls, Joell’s manager shouting in the background, an engineer commenting on the take. Say what you like about Ortiz: he works hard. “The album is crack, man!” the bouncy Brooklynite says (rather breathlessly) after he turns down a rough mix of a song in the background. “It’s really, really, really good. I got a whole bunch of great producers. I got Premier on it, I got Nottz on it, Emile, DJ Khalil. I got The LOX on it, I got B.o.B…”

Read this about last night and didn't know you wrote this, just recently found out as I logged on. Liked the way you documented his Interscope rise to his E1 tribulations, and his maturity as a performer taking a more formal route recording in a suite spittin' the most insane shit ever along Premier.

Always enjoyed Ortiz interviews! I think after he got signed at Aftermath/ Interscope he kinda rested on his laurels until he got dropped. At Koch i dont know whats goin on there behind the scenes after the problems he experienced there.  really bought the best of him!!
